Villar finally gets the first hit of the game, no outs in the forth, down 3 runs. Lindor promptly hits into a double play. Maybin is 0-18. Looks like he's never seen MLB pitchers. Edit: Lindor weakly flies out in the 9th for the second out with the tying run on base. There isn't a clutch hitter on the team. Lindor being a disappointment is an understatement.

Was nice to have deMAN back. In my 67 years of watching baseball, Koufax and deGrom, IMO, are a tad above the rest of the best. I don't think it's too early to include Jake there anymore. As it was, Koufax' best years were the last 4 of his 12 total seasons. He pitched over 300 innings in 3 of the 4. Jake has had 3 dominant years, and he's only pitched barely over 200 innings in 3 of his first 7 years. Koufax loved the 15" high pitcher's mound, with his overhand curve seemingly starting 10' up. Two years after Koufax retired in '66 they lowered the mound from 15" to the 10" it has been since then. Koufax is my all time idol. I loved watching him. Seen him pitch in person when I sold hot dogs and beer when I in high school. Was there the day Tug McGraw beat him for the only time in Met history. Not sure of the exact numbers lifetime vs the Mets but something like 30-1. DeGrom might not have reached the Koufax pinnacle in my mind but what more does he have to do. He should win everytime out. Imagine if he had some help like a team that can score some runs and perhaps a reliever or two.

Lindor seems to be snapping out of it I remember Beltran taking a month or 2 before getting going when he came here .. Doesn't help that teams can pitch around him with the rest of the lineup on the DL

Watching his overhand curve coming down from the sky and out of his hand from 9' up off that 15" mound was amazing. Had to be incredibly intimidating.

Teammates scoffed at the idea that DeGrom uses anything to increase his spin rates. I do think it’s interesting how significantly Cole’s spin rates were down and he got knocked around in his last start. He did come from Houston. They didn’t coin the phrase “if you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying”, but they definitely were proponents of it.

We lost 1-0 on a Richie Sshburn Triple and scored on a fround out to Reese. My GF gave me a baseball autographed by the '53 dodgers... all of them. very name a legend to old Dodger fans like us. 2 years later we had a snadlot game going in the summer and the cover came off our last ball. I rode my bike home and got me ba;;. We spent 5 minutes oohing and ahhhing over each name... Campy, Jackie, Gil, Furillo, Duke, Pee Wee. Erskine, Newcombe. And then we put the ball in play. ;o;. Campy lived next town over from me and I well remember the day he crashed his Caddy on Forest Ave, in Glen Cove. So, sad what it did to that great guy. Gil was the man... a real Dodger and the team that replaced them. Stengel was a Yankee... a caricature of his old self just to keep the old New York flavor.

My first game I ever went to was Ebbets Field in 1957. The Dodgers beat the Cubs 7-5 my idol Duke Snider hit a HR that day. I told Duke about it when I talked to him. I wanted to see Erskine pitch that Saturday but instead the Dodgers pitched some rookie named Don Drysdale. Man I remember them like it was yesterday. You and me could get lost together on those Dodger teams. That was the time to grow up in NY as a kid and a baseball fan. 3 teams, 3 HOF Centerfielders all playing at the same time in the same city. The Yanks won the pennant almost every year. From 1949 thru 1956 the Dodger and Giants won the pennant every year but 1950. It was a Glorious Era !

Somewhere around '54, beginning of the season, I was going out to play with my friends on a Saturday afternoon and my dad was watching the Dodgers, and he said, "Wait. I want you to see Don Zimmer. He has a metal plate in his head from being hit with a pitch, and there he is up at bat again in the Majors. He's got guts." And, I immediately loved Don Zimmer. Pained me the day I saw him tossed around by Pedro Martinez when Zimmer was an old Yankee coach.

Johnny Podres the little left hander will always be remembered fondly with a smile. I remember as a kid people dancing in the street when the Dodgers finally beat the Yanks. He had some good years in L.A. as well. Loved the story about A Dodger pitching coach wanting Koufax to throw at people like Gibson and back them off the plate. Koufax wouldn't he was afraid he wwould really hurt someone. Alston told the coach don't worry about it Drysdale pitches tomorrow. Furillo with that rifle arm, nobody went from 1st to 3rd. Drysdale could really hit. You bring up great memories. That day when I went to Ebbetts Field. I was so impressed as a kid at how colorful it was. I still remember the red railings and the blue seats. How white the Dodger home uniforms were with their red number in front. We only had a black and white TV at home to watch the games. e actually sat behind first base I could see their faces when they came off the field. Here over half a century later I'm still talking about it. The first time I seen how colorful our beloved NY Football Giants uni's were was in the Sunday paper in the Parade magazine in the middle of the big Sunday paper. They had a centerfold picture in color of the Giant white and red uniforms playing the Steelers. I had that picture on the wall of my room.

What happened to all of the Jared Kelenic, “the Mets sky is falling” articles? Oh 0 for his last 39 and demoted? How about that. I don’t wish the kid bad luck, just got sick of all that nonsense.

Yeah, possibly the worst non-denial in history. And Peterson is a double giving-up machine. He has no velocity and less control. Let Lugo take his place as the 5th starter.

That’s how trash he has been. According to the Rojas, he's going to remain in the lineup. I guess as long as they stay in first place, they really want to find out what they have in him. In fairness, he has had a few good starts. For me, a pitcher like him needs good control and mental toughness. Once it starts to go bad for him, he just gets shellacked.

Great chemistry, camaraderie... really genuine concern for each other. Pillar showing courage to even step into the box, and hitting the ball nicely. The single best pitcher in MLB, and may be one of the top 10 pitchers in history. Health intact he is on his way to his 3rd Cy Young. This team has had 45 different players and are still missing, what, 4 starters, in addition to pitchers... Thor, Carrasco . Lugo just back. Building quality depth all over, and Lindor is just starting to contribute at bat. There's a lot to like about this team. I think we'll enjoy this season. It's an easy team to pull for.
