I was 15 when The Mets began in '62. I've watched thousands of their games in those 59 years, and today's is one to remember. I've seen some heartbreaking losses thru the years, but if they lost this one in the midst of a nice comeback winning streak and a 9 run lead, it would have been difficult to tolerate. I still take a loss hard, like I did when they first started. Lot's of anguish in those early years... but, it never stops. If they win this nightcap I'll feel much better.
You only have to be a Met fan for about 10 years to understand frustration... exasperation. Kinda like being a Giant fan. But since '62 the NY Giants have had many more things to cheer about than the Mets. It has been an 59 year education in masochism with my Mets.

Brilliantly put Zim I’ve been a NY Giants fan for nearly 40 years since 1982 but only really started watching baseball 5 years ago and this was one of the craziest games in my short memory of being a Mets fan

Why would you sit both lindor and Baez in the same start? When Nimmo is also out...
I'm not as down on Rojas as navy is, but I don't see any reason to have your best on base guy out along with 2 potential home run hitters and great defensive pieces.

I sold beer and hot dogs at Shea the first year they moved from the polo Grounds. I worked right thru high school. I had 2 jobs in high school in a super market and Shea. Most games were at night and weekends. My boss at the super market worked with me. I worked both Beatle concerts, seen 2 no hitters vs Mets Jim Bunning perfect game. And Bob Moose Pirate pitcher. Was working when Tug Mcgraw beat Koufax for only time in Met history. Was a Brooklyn Dodger fan before Mets. I love this stupid frustrating team since their inception. Talk about peaks and valleys. Zim buddy we've had a hell of a ride. From Roger Craig and Al Jackson to Seaver, Gooden, and DeGrom. 1969 World Series, I was there.

I watched both Bunning and Moose games on TV. I was at Shea in '66 when Koufax was supposed to pitch and it got rained out. I was pissed. He was my all time favorite. Myb grandfather brought me to my first Dodger game at Ebbets in '53. Richie Ashburn of the Phillies hot a triple and scored on SAC fly. It was the only run of the game, and he also made a fabulous shoestring catch in center that would have tied it. I might have cried when they moved. The mid 50's Dodgers. Wow, how I loved them. What a team.

My first game was at Ebbets Field also and my father took me too I was 10 years old in '57 their last year in Brooklyn. I was hoping to see Carl Erskine pitch he was my favorite after Newcombe. But instead they pitched some rookie I was disappointed the rookies name was Don Drysdale. He beat the Cubs 7-5. After the Dodgers and Giants left I still rooted for them in L.A. I was too young to hold a grudge like my uncles. My father and I still rooted for them anyway. All we really did was root for any team that played the Yankees. We'd laugh and say for 3 days we root for the Red Sox, for 3 days we root for the Tigers, 3 days the Orioles and so on and so on. And out of the ashes the Phoenix rises and the Mets were born. From the mess at the beginning that we all embraced to a full blown love affair here we are. Aggravation personified and still going. I love talking old baseball with you Zim . Great memories. Thank you.

Thank you. Don Who? Drysdale, you say? Labine, Erskine, Newcombe, Loes, Podres, Black. Drysdale and Koufax pitching for the Dodgers gave me pleasure in those days when our Mets were outclassed. I rooted for the Dodgers every year, along with my Mets, and when Koufax retired I stopped caring about them. Furillo with the incredible bazooka arm. In '55 we were in heaven after Podres 2-0 shutout in game 7. Who's the better center fieldr? Duke, Mick, or Willie? IN '56 MIck won the Triple Crown... but, my Duke set a Major League record with 7 HR's in the WS. Some guy named Don Larsen pitched a no hitter in that '56 series. But only Duke's 7 HRs mattered to me afterwards. Gave me more ammunition in our arguments about the best CF in NY City. Jackie, Junior Gilliam, Gil, Pee Wee, and of course Campy behind the plate. I lived 3 miles from where Campy crashed his Caddy on an icy day in Glen Cove, and never played again. We always got the Long Island Press which was an afternoon paper, so they had all the Dodger overnight Box Scores from LA or SF. In '53 my grandpa gave me a signed ball by all the Dodgers. I kept it on my dresser until one day 3 years later when the guys had a pickup game nealrly every day of the summer in the ball park. One day the cover on our last decent ball came off, so I quick rode my bike home and came back with my Dodger ball. All the guys oohed and ahhed at all the sigs.... and then we put it into play, and used it until the cover came off several days later. Imagine what that would be worth today? We collected and flipped baseball cards every day in the school yard back then and my Mantle rookie card was lost in a flip with no more regret than spending a penny on a piece of gum. Sometimes we'd use a clothes pin to secure them by the wheels on our bikes and the ratta tat from the cards hitting the spokes was cool. Just last night I couldn't remember a well known movie star's name... Had to google him. But, I have zero problems remembering my Dodger's and those first bumbling Mets. I suffered with their every loss. I don't have to ask you if you believe we grew up in the greatest time, ever. I love what this internet gives me.... like right now when we can exchange memories of the best times. But being a kid without it was a blessing.

You would think 6 runs would be enough for Walker to hold down the fort. And you, like me, would be wrong in that thinking.

Damn... didn't realize until Pillar hit the grand slam..... 90% of the sparse crowd at the Nats are Mets fans.
It used to be the same way back in the day when the Giants were bad, but had a great fan base... during the bad 20 years... We'd go to an away game, especially the Cards, and they'd have 10-15,000and 90% of them were Giant fans.

They sank like a rock when they went out west, Who coulda imagined they go on this streak... regardless of the opposition quality.... and Atlanta starts to sink like a rock.
If you're a Met fan, Y'a Gotta Believe. It's hard to believe when we don't have deGrom and Thor in there. You're not being biased when you know we'd have many more W's. We can only imagine a full season with them both healthy.
Our pitchers need a rest.

I got to agree... and, it raises a question.... can you make it to the Show these days just on defense? I just looked at his record with Cubs. Batted ,277 in a partial 2016, then .298 full time in 2017, and .286 in 2018. But, has been plummeting disastrously since then, .236/2019 and .167/2020 as a sub... lost his starting position. How do you play 2 years in the Bigs with a .298 and .286 average, and then suddenly you can't hit anyomore? Something went wrong, mentally or phuysically.
