a lot less than they thought they'd get at the outset (at least the public face of it)

Eagles will carry a $33.8 Million dead cap from the trade.
Yikes.

Eagles will carry a $33.8 Million dead cap from the trade. Yikes. Big cap hit but they get out from under that contract in future years (cap experts can correct me if I'm wrong). They get rid of a problem of their own making. This is akin to ripping off a bandaid. In a year's time we'll find out what happened to Wentz: Was his decline real or was it the team around him.

I love it. Over 9 games, Wentz is 7-2 against the Giants. Is Hurts their guy? Or will they draft somebody else this year?

Philly took on 34 million in dead cap with the trade. They are now 41.4 over .

On man, I hope Wentz lights it up.
As a Giants fan him out of the division makes me happy. Eagles ruined him.

More like ripping gorilla tape off of your ball sack.

I wonder if the Colts will try to keep Wentz from playing over 70% of the snaps by taking him out a few plays each game and benching him possibly for Week 17.

Wentz to the Colts for a 3rd rounder and Conditional 2nd rounder in 2022 Seems right.

The Colts are a very very good team. They can likely make the playoffs without him. I guess they figure better is to make the playoffs, try to go deep and make the first rounder a late first rounder, like an Engram type pick.

Lol a third this year and a second next year... some bidding war 😂 What was the losing bid, a bag of rocks? To be fair, it more than likely will be a 1st rounder in 2022, but still a late one. Not exactly getting back what they traded to get him.

Good trade for Indy. They reportedly offered two seconds. Obviously willing to make it a 1 hinging on the conditional. They probably assume if Wentz plays 70% of snaps they do equally as well as they did this year so its a late 1st rounder at worst. And they bumped the other pick down to a 3rd. So in terms of value they got him for the price they wanted.
In terms of the player himself, Reich knows exactly what he is getting and had success in the past.
Ballard is a legit GM, unlike Rosen who I always felt was a fraud. Too many people riding his jock from day 1 when he pulled off that Sam Bradford heist.

Not exactly getting back what they traded to get him. Ballard was offering two 2s. He busted one down to a third and made the other a conditional, able to increase to a 1. So basically he got Wentz for the price he was offering. Still keeps his 1 and 2 for this season.

I was correcting your statement by adding the more than likely possible option that the 2nd will be a late 1st. And yes, it was still not value for value like I said in the original post, but Wentz value isnt there anymore. The Eagles are unloading a terrible mistake contract (sacrificing this season cap wise) while having what they believe is their guy in Jalen Hurts on the cheap. So they are playing the long run on this trade. They made a mistake, and now they are trying to move on as quick as possible.

He got it for his price because there was no one pushing the market against them. The Eagles were lucky to get wet they got.
