The success of this team should not go through a single RB. If thats the case then something is wrong. Barkley should be a compliment. A healthy productive Barkley would be a great thing and is capable of being a key cog. When that happens it happens. The only team that really has the RB as "the" focal point is the Titans with Henry. He has earned and maintains it. With that said having the "run game" be productive is whole other topic. That is definitely a necessity. I always liked RB by committee. It gives the players more game time which gets them into a flow. If there is injury the team isn't as affected. It also keeps the team from paying big money out to one player. Barkley is more of a home run hitter. Not to say I don't like him but I prefer the group approach due to that position which takes a lot of punishment / injury.

The teams with the best running games are almost always from a multiple back attack. Not only do you offer differing styles and strengths to opposing defense, but you also keep fresher legs on the field.
then add the fact that you are extending the careers of these backs.

I think that the Seahawks with Marshawn Lynch is the only team from 2010-present to win a championship with a bell cow at running back. RBBC is the way to go. Pretty much all of the championship teams do it. That is why drafting one with the 2nd pick made next to no sense IMO.

Its not great value for the team. Put the money in the oline etc...

I merely was questioning the validity of the statements that he most certainly will play week 1. You don't have to be a surgeon, but you can reference the recovery success of other players with knee injuries. Cruz came back for opening day after his second knee surgery. Terrell Thomas was back for opening day after suffering a much worse tear. From everything we're hearing, I don't think it's going out on a limb to predict Barkley will be ready for the start of the season. Whether he'll be used or not and how much, is the real question. You couldn’t pick two different players for your example? You went with Thomas and Cruz who never played an NFL game after the following season. And what are you hearing? Other than he’s hanging with Daniel Jones and he’s putting his exercises on his Instagram? Let’s hold off on he’ll play week 1 until he participates in a full practice. You know what, he might play week 1. Joe Judge put a one legged Daniel Jones out there. When the whole known world knew he had no business playing.

Just a quick look at the past 5 superbowls the RBBC definition needs to be defined more clearly. The Tampa Bay Bucs are the only team that equally matched carries among two backs. The rest of the teams had one running back doing most of the carrying and rest as a pass option out the backfield. Only Pat's and 49ers had 3 rbs rotated but unequally. The rest basically did the primary and change of course/backup rb thing with only 2 rbs. Even the Atlanta superbowl Freeman got most of the carries while Tevin Coleman was just the change of pace back.

Bu with us, we use Barkley WAY too much. We are wrecking him quite honestly.

How the injury affects Barkley's future is a different discussion entirely. He probably won't be the same. Hopefully not to the extent of Cruz and Thomas. We're talking about medical clearance for week 1. If he’s not cleared by doctors for week 1, I don't think there’s any chance he gets pushed into playing before he’s ready. But clearly history shows there's no reason a player can't be ready by week 1 the following season.

Yeah... because of Daniel Jones. Not the RBs. I think DJ was pretty close to the leading rusher on the team and it wasnt because of a running back by committee thing. The runningbacks were terrible last year.Plus, Shurmur called the plays during SB's first two years. How many times did we ask ourselves "why are they not running the ball with saquon?" Shurmur was great at the pass game...didnt do Jack for the run. That was all SB. None of this is correct. Gallman had more than twice the carries than anyone on the roster and matched Barkley's career YPC last year. FWIW my gut tells me that Saquon will never be the same again. I really hope I am wrong about this.
I also think that by week 4 people are going to be asking WTF the Giants were thinking letting Wayne Gallman walk.

I agree with the first. I don't think the Giants will miss Gallman for a nanosecond.

Weren't you grumbling last week on the DeCastro thread about the fans right to make an opinion? Two completely different things. The DeCastro thread became a pissing contest of who read the article and who did not. It was so ridiculous, that someone had to call it out. This thread is opinions that are stated as facts. Unless you and anyone else has an expertise in the study of the human anatomy. It’s all guessing. Nobody ever likes admitting the hard reality that virtually everything discussed, tweeted, posted or called in about - when it comes to sports - is an opinion.

Barkley of course will and should be the major part of it. With SQB coming off injury I would think we will see this at least during the first half of the season. Your point does have a lot of merit to it. I wanted Gallman to be our #2 guy this year. Don't think we have a RB capable to fill in to any extent to count on beside SQB.

We need Barkley to play as soon as he can...this is year 3 Jones, and the year is imperative of the future of said QB, GM, HC...and if said coach Judge gets a third year after a 2nd losing year, it will more than likely be a third year with a sparkling brand new QB to learn the system....not ideal for a secure year 3 of coaching. Barkley allowing the OC to play yo-yo with the opponent safeties is incredibly helpful for Jones in all aspects of the passing game, especially being the OL more than likely will not be doing that this year. This is a QB league...running backs, no matter how talented, useful tools for the modern pass happy NFL and making the QB better. He needs to be out there sooner than later. Keeping Barkley bubble wrapped and all shiny for next year is no usage to this team moving forward if we have no Jones and starting new at QB....and a year like last gets us just that. This is a padded up and played running back/linebacker... and tore his knee twice while playing opinion... other opinions pale to mine. I agree that Jones success this year is closely tied to the health of Barkley.

I agree that Jones success this year is closely tied to the health of Barkley. Absolutely...SB is a almost impossible to stop once he breaks past a hole on the line, doing a jump cut not seen since Sanders and a threat to take it down the field every touch. Any DC worth being hired knows you have to stop Barkley before he gets leveled down, so you need to bring your best tackling strong safety to get him before he can begin his jump cuts...and good luck to that safety. Linebackers have literally no chance without an angle...safeties a bit more speed to get him before he gains a full head of steam and heads into open field...he is a great weapon to have. Having Barkley creates any OC's dream situation in vertical passing..the strength of our DJ. I'm one of the biggest detractors of the Barkley pick at 2, but ...in regards to having an average OL he is imperative for this year for making our franchise QB confident, and productive. IMHO of course.

I can see it now, no matter what the actual reason, say we go something like 4-6 without Barkley then he comes back and we barely miss the playoffs. Everyone will have their built in Barkley excuse for the following season and although the team still looked below average, they all come back with no moves made at GM, O line or QB. Get back ASAP Barkley, I don’t want to hear another single excuse for this team or GM

I wasn’t aware of all the surgeons we have here. Wish I knew about this years ago, I have a bad shoulder that needs fixing. What could go wrong asking a fellow board member to fix an important body part? Weren't you grumbling last week on the DeCastro thread about the fans right to make an opinion? I bet DeCastro is ringing DG’s phone off the hook!

If he is 95% this year AND Jones/the O line take the next steps we have a top 10 offense easy...and added with the upgrades on defense this team could be a major threat Of course the last 2 super bowl champs had Jags run it at will because teams feared their weapons so much there was endless green to run into all day
