Here are my observations from Fanfest FWIW: - The players seemed to really enjoy having the fans there. Leo Williams and Dexter Lawrence were really engaging with the fans. Engram and Toney were playing catch with the fans. Toney seemed to be having a lot of fun (he only worked on the side during practice though).
- Jones threw some nice balls, but in reality I think that he would have been sacked in a real game before getting the throws off on a lot of them. Kind of disappointing IMO. Still seems to hold the ball too long.
- Shep looks great and he is clearly Jones' go to guy at this point (at least without Golloday on the field).
- OL: All were wearing big knee braces on both knees (this is apparently a Judge thing). Lemieux was moving around fine. Gates had his belly out the entire time (love this guy!). Slade got reps at LT. Burton got reps at RT. Murphy got reps at LG.
- Coaching: Judge is very involved. Conducting drills, talking to players during stretching, etc. A big presence on the field. Practice seemed very organized.
- Ryan Santoso is a big dude and booms the ball. Made two 54 yarders and barely missed from 58. Gano is entrenched here, but this guy should find a job somewhere.
- Engram: Is it a coincidence that the guy has his first drop of training camp when fans are there for the first time? I'm starting to believe that his problem is a mental one -- wilting under pressure.
- Rudolph still standing on the sidelines in street clothes.
- Golloday moving around ok on the side.

All-in-all, a fun time except for the heat! Had to be called short because Judge was informed a severe thunderstorm was approaching. The corwd booed but that quickly turned to YIKES when tbe shelf cloud raced over and Thor started spewing lightning all over the place (this is a weekly occurrence in Tampa..which is why Ray Jay has a huge corridor inside for fans to shelter in ) It was a maintenence day for Toney (seems Judge holds players out or gives them a light day to rest up and only has them do walk through..so much to slave driving players all camp ) Yeah Engram's issues seem to be in his hwad.... Not a guy I'm looking for on a last drive of game needing a FG or TD unfortunately.. I'd rather Smith out there or maybe if we have 4 legit WRs go in a 10

We thought it was just over. We high-tailed it out of there when a severe weather alert came up on my son's phone. Made it to the car just as the skies opened up.

Thank you so much for posting this! I checked in here to see if there was a thread about Fan Fest. Great write up/summary on your observations! - Disappointing to hear Jones is still holding the ball too long. His QB coach and coordinator raved about how much faster he was processing things he was seeing in Year 2 of the system.
- Shep does looks like a new player, beside the new #3 jersey He just looks leaner, quicker, etc.. With Golden Tate gone, I believe Shep will flourish in the slot. He'll be asked to play other positions, but slot is the natural fit for him. I can see him being a security blanket for Jones, especially when Golladay draws coverage.
- Yeah, Judge is big on the knee brace thing. Love Gates as well.
- Love that about Judge...his involvement everywhere. He is not just a special teams coach. Best part is how he coaches up and is able to teach the players. I learned when I coached kids locally here, it does you no good to have a wealth of football knowledge/experience if you are not able to relay that to others. Judge is a great teacher.
- So interesting about Engram, it might be a mental thing. I remember a kid my first year....was awesome in practice, not the biggest kid, but was not afraid to tackle anyone on the team....including our starting RB, who was a beast. But when the lights came on and it was game time, completely different kid....timid, shy, and unsure of himself. It was a mental hurdle he was not able to overcome unfortunately.
Another kid however was....I remember inviting him over my house and asking him what he loved about football, what made it FUN for him. He said running the ball and hitting. I invited other kids over and we played in my backyard, tackling, laughing, being silly, etc.. The very next game, he took the handoff and exploded thru the hole, completely different player. His mother came up to him after the game and asked me what I did to her son and I just smiled at let her know I just made if fun for him, forgetting about all the technical stuff. Here's the ball, go score a touchdown buddy.
Anyway, I hope Engram is able to overcome his drop issue. We need all hands on deck this season.
I would love to hear from other who were fortunate enough to attend as well!

All-in-all, a fun time except for the heat! for me football and heat are a no no. I even dislike going to early season games because of that. Last thing I want to do is to sweat just sitting watching a game. Then you try and get all into the game and cheering and it gets even worse. other than that the Fanfest was a great idea and cool you could attend

There is no pass rush, so there is no real urgency to get rid of the ball as you would in a live game. Engram has had one drop all summer, so let’s relax a little.

Someone should have made that announcement (my cousin was there, which is what I was parroting and he only knee as well from a severe weather alert to get out...most fans probably don't have that app. Someone in the organization probably took a look at the radar and said call it . FWIW be thankful you weren't in Arrowhead when a rotating super cell passed right over and everyone was oblivious as the game continued...(think it was the game where the rain was so bad that tbe entire field was covered with 2 inches of water vs Seattle)

I remember hearing about the knee braces for the OL. Not for nothing, but I wonder if the brace helped prevent Shane's injury from being more serious.

Barkley full participant yet?

Jeez ... I should have mentioned Barkley. Kind of important, huh? He worked out mostly on the side, but he did line up wide on an 11-on-11 drill, but no one came near him!

I was avoiding thinking about Barkley. I’ve been filling myself with a false sense of security. But reality is setting in and I just ask myself how many times have we seen this before? All this time later, they are afraid to do anything with him. Wait till he takes a few shots…sadly, I feel that will be all she wrote. I can just feel it. I’m getting that same misleading feeling as after Jones’s hamstring last year. This team doesn’t tell us everything right away. We get our hopes up and then kerplunk.

Lots of non-transparency on this team. I don't see any comparisons. Barkley is running and cutting and looks impressive according to reporters in camp. The coaches said they were taking their time with him. I don't see any inconsistencies or reason for concern here.

Sucks too, just got an autographed jersey.

I went to a few of these and had a great time.
It is a family oriented event imo and great to walk through the locker room, mingle with players, catch balls , kick field goals etc.
It is a big commitment of time for me, I live too far away. (4 hour ride each way)
If I lived less than 2 hours from the stadium, I'd be there.

Yeah…and pretty soon, if they haven’t started already, they’ll be talking about how he’s going to be coming back twice as fast…just like Cruz who didn’t last 2 seconds. He was gone after the season was over, and unfortunately so will Barkley. Like I said, this is MY feeling…I’m a conspiracy kind of dude. The Giants front office lies.

Some of the videos that were shown suggest he is ready. Right, either he'll make it back or won't. The Giants don't know any more than we do. They have not made any definitive statements for a reason. And, who knows what the next injury will be? This is an injury prone player. It's common for guys coming back from ACL's to injure something else.

There is zero reason for them to commit to anything at this point. Even of they felt he was ready which he obviously isnt.

totally ****ing up? Hernandez thought he was getting help from the center? Somebody messed up bad. I have heard Jones threw the ball to the defender on purpose to give him props for a good play
