Had to re-watch to see if it was as bad I remember it. DEFENSE: - Dalvin Tomlinson could be the biggest loss of the year. Run defense was porous.
- Denver receivers were running wide open in the middle of the field....like LITERALLY no one within 2-3+ yards of them...the underneath coverage was atrocious all game whether it be a WR crossing route, a RB release or a simple TE seam/in/out....very scary. I almost think they blitzed too much from the LB and Safety position leaving these gaping holes. Outside coverage wasn't much better.....seemed like very rarely if ever did Denver's players have to make a contested catch. Defensive backfield was supposed to be the strength of this team yet seemed like they very rarely went press man.....when they went zone they got torn up (again mostly underneath).
- Couldn't get off the field on 3rd/4th downs
- In the 4th quarter they were visibly gassed
OFFENSE:
- Quite conversely NO Giants receiver got ANY separation except for a some plays late presumably due to the Broncos laying back a bit in the fourth. Every catch was contested and I give Jones credit for squeezing the ball into a few tight windows.
- Pass blocking was good for most of the game except for 2-3 breakdowns.
- Run blocking was non-existent....just no push whatsoever.
- The play calling was appalling....mainly very vanilla with short elementary routes which looked like Denver DB's were jumping/pressing all game. The RPO's looked like straight pass plays disguised as an RPO. The drive at the end of the first half with the ball on their own 5 was atrocious. He calls a HB dive for no gain, then a 2 yard FB flat route followed by 2 yard TE flat route.....wanted to puke....no effort whatsoever to get a first down.....simply setting up for the punt.
- They moved the ball more consistently in the second half but were down 17-7 already when they first got the ball....uphill climb from there.
- Golladay, Saquon and Rudolph CLEARLY need more practice/game time to get their feet under them. As other have pointed out the guys who practiced (Shep/Slayton) played well.
- Not gonna knock Jones too much for the fumble. Re-watching it he covered it with two hands expecting contact but it still got jarred loose. I put that fumble in a different category than not being able to secure it in the pocket.
The coaching on both sides of the ball and the head coach need to step it up as well. Every single one of them got outcoached and the challenge on the scoring play was embarrassing.
All in all not good but surprisingly not AS bad as I thought. Felt like a fourth pre-season game to me especially within it being a non-division/conference opponent. I think this team will start clicking more on O by week 3-4.....and I think Graham needs to start playing more man on D. Hopefully they can steal 1-2 games until they get there on both sides of the ball.

nice recap. Can't argue any of your points. Hopefully we see vast improvement on Thursday, or we could be in for a very quick season.

Is there another NFL offense that doesn't put any players in motion pre-snap? I mean, there's a huge advantage for the offense, and we’re not utilizing it. And coincidentally, there are no open receivers, ever.

I'm irrationally mad that Mr. Multiple, Joe Judge, is cool with such an unimaginative offense on the field.

The bold worries me the most. This was supposed to be a good backfield. The defense has a leash from me to have a bad game or two. Better track record, and I expect them to bounce back big time. The offense has no such leash.

I'm not into conspiracy theories, but something is not right with the entire presence of Jason Garrett on this staff. Nothing about it makes sense.

Nothing about it makes sense. Wonder if Mara's plan was to use Jason as a fill in head coach in case Judge didn't work. Judge was considered a risky hire because of inexperience, he was never even an OC or DC. Not going to happen now due to Garrett's popularity...but he was a former NFL Coach of the Year. Garrett seems well respected in NFL circles (players, coaches, and executives) but not with fans like Shurmur.

Bingo I'll keep reminding people that it was announced (I actually think a day or 2 )before Judge was hired that Garrett was coming in for an interview 🤔 I'll say it again If we still see this bland, boring, play to convert 3rd and short style offense all year and no real improvement with Jones... I would not be surprised to see Judge run off and Garrett take over, Or it come out Judge wanted Garrett gone by week 3 this year and he wasn't allowed to fire him Yes it's a conspiracy theory Prove me wrong ....please,for my sake, this fan base's sake and this franchise's sake prove me wrong 😤

Impossible! I was told for months from the troll rbe40 that Shelton would step right in and be just as if not better. I was definitely beating that DT hammer quite a bit when I saw he signed for so little compared to LW. We miss him sorely. Back to your post, solid observations. I don't agree with a couple but in general was right on point. Im not sure Golladay/Rudolph/SQB need more plays to get back in the swing of things. I think they were just phased out of the game for the most part for some reason or another. For example, Golladay was out there and open a couple of times, and other times would be perfect for a contested jump ball as that would be his strength, but DJ wasnt looking at him. To me Rudolph is what he is. Again, Kaden Smith is being underutilized as well. Barkley as expected would have limited snaps, but his cuts and jukes were looking strong coming back from injury when he was out there. Coaching was awful all the way around. On offense we were too conservative and unimaginative. Defense they were too soft in coverage and the middle of the field was wide open all game, which is why they converted nearly every 3rd down. And one more time, the HC makes a head scratching mistake. I think the team will obviously get better as the season rolls on, but by better doesn't mean we eclipse the W total from last year. Thomas looks better thankfully. He had a hiccup or 2 but overall was very solid in pass pro. RT is going to be an issue. The guards need to get stronger too for the run game. Props to Logan Ryan with his ball stripping ability. Almost got another one later in the game too. Peppers, Bradberry looked bad.

I was down on Gettleman before but a loss like this on Thursday would make me want the Giants to fire him and Garrett after that game....

The defense and special teams need to score 3 tds!! They were all trash. You're right, I'm much more concerned about the Offense at this point. As for the defense, it looked like they were running prevent defense the entire game. Corners playing 5 yards off a receiver on 3rd and short. Yeah, that will get it done every time! Pray for a drop....

Blue as far as the run D went they were under 4 yards a carry and under 100 till Gordon got that 70 yarder late in the fourth that blew it up. One of the biggest mistakes Graham and company made was taking Peppers off the field he had 31 snaps he usually has the whole 9 yards, think his energy and leader ship was missed.

Tomlinson - impossible II for all the reasons mentioned.

Shocked that our entire coaching staff at the top HC, OC and DC were all unprepared for the first game. Every team had the same shortened pre-season so there are no excuses and this group is on its second season together. They regressed imo. Not sure what Judge focused in in training camp but clearly it wasn't the right things.
I also saw no evidence whatsoever of half time adjustments.
One of the hallmarks of the Parcells era were the brilliant half time adjustments that would change a game completely.

Pray for a drop.... only thing I'll say is that the D started out pretty bad last year, and was able to pull it together, so hopefully we start seeing some cohesion on Thursday. It's more of a pipe dream for the offense, unfortunately.

Is there another NFL offense that doesn't put any players in motion pre-snap? I mean, there's a huge advantage for the offense, and we’re not utilizing it. And coincidentally, there are no open receivers, ever. I may have missed others, but I only remember one play where they ran pre-snap motion. One. It not only helps the offense create mismatches, but it also shows the offense if the defense is in zone or man.
