The question then becomes should the Giants keep taking Olinemen at the expense of other players at other positions that they've got rated higher? Sign Brandon Scherff, draft one of the top Tackles and you’ve got your OL. Fill out the last two spots with incumbents, mid-level signings, or mid-round picks. I know fans want first round picks at every position, but that is not how you build an OL. And where exactly are we getting the money to pay Scherff? I’m sure he won’t believe that money grows on trees, and taking an IOU only works in monopoly.

The Giants aren't going into this year without shaving some contracts, Shepard and Rudolph alone create about $14M. Martinez is not a lock to return, he certainly won't under his current number.

We could squeeze two pennies together and make a nickel. Also, who’s to say he would take what we have to offer? He won’t come cheap..

Had we focused on OL and had better scouts and talent evaluators, we could have drafted the following players:
2014- Zack Martin, we took OBJ 2015- Brandon Scherf, we took Flowers 2016- Laremy Tunsil, we took Apple 2017- Ryan Ramczyk, TJ Watt, we took EE 2018- Quentin Nelson, Josh Allen, Vita Vea, Bradley Chubb, Roquan Smith, we took SB
Nuff said!

Shame he never got to face the media. Pathetic move by ownership showing they were really in charge of the bad moves made in recent years

God I hope we don't hire Abrams.... I know it's coming, but maybe, JUST MAYBE there is a chance Mara will do the right thing and hire OUTSIDE of the organization You mean like Shumur , you mean like Judge , you mean like McAdoo? I meant GM, not coach

“The know it all in the room who knew nothing” Kim Jones on Dave Gettleman Kim Jones is great friends with Odell, and took it personally when he was traded, has had it in for DG for years now. That doesn't make her comment wrong though, just needs a touch of context.

He addressed it, but poorly. We need to draft better, choose free agents better, and develop talent better. That all falls on the GM and the coaches he chooses. So, who chose Judge? Mara. That's part of the franchise's disfunction. Mara needs to sit back and shut up. Let football people make football decisions. Not that I'm defending Gettleman in ANY way. Personally, I think they should have interrupted his retirement press conference to fire him before he could get the words out. I'm not saying Mara hasn't and doesn't make final calls on head coaching hires, but I think every owner in the league technically does that. Maybe the Maras a little more (Accorsi wasn't necessarily sold on Coughlin, Wellington wanted him for sure). The Giants GM has always been heavily involved and a heavy influencer of the coaching hire. I fall prey to it too, but we're a little black and white with this stuff sometimes.

You make a fair point, and as fans we tend to see clear lines in fuzzy pictures. I do feel, however, that Mara's influence on this team extends further than most owners with the notable exceptions like Dan Schneider and his ilk. Mara fancies himself a "Football guy" based on his genetics and pedigree. I hope the last decade has taught him some humility in that arena, and he can be man enough to recognize he isn't the natural born "Football guy" he has always seen himself as. The mark of a true leader is often the ability to swallow your pride and acquiesce to the appropriate people at the appropriate time. He hasn't shown that ability so far. I'm really hoping for some contrition this year.
