Mara's quote said GM has oversight of coaching...yet, you retained your head coach before a GM was onboarded.

Today's letter to season ticket holders, just hit my inbox. :-(
Dave Gettleman earlier today announced his retirement as Senior Vice President & General Manager. We would like to thank Dave for all of his contributions to the New York Giants and congratulate him on an accomplished career in the National Football League. Dave was an integral part in building three of our Super Bowl teams, including two championship teams, and we wish Dave, his wife Joanne and their entire family all the best in his retirement.
Today, we begin our search for our next General Manager. Our process will be deliberate and thorough. We are united in our vision in what attributes our next general manager will possess, and we will find the most outstanding person for the job. We envision a leader who displays a strategic long-term vision for our franchise, an excellent communicator and someone who will oversee our entire football operations, including player personnel, college scouting and coaching.
It is an understatement to say that the last few years have been difficult for our organization and for our fans. The frustration is clear, and we share in it with you. Our fans deserve a team they can be proud to support, and we are committed to doing what is necessary to be successful on the field.
This past season we celebrated the 10th anniversary of our last Super Bowl championship, and it is always our mission to achieve that pinnacle of success. Thank you for your continued support of our organization, and we are excited about this opportunity to define the next generation of Giants football.

I wish DG well in his retirement.
He tried but he failed and had a fair chance to succeed.
He's not the only thing wrong with this franchise, far from it, but deserves his fair share of the blame.

If they are allowing the GM to take full control of that department. Why is an owner in that position? Are they saying the GM can dictate to the owner? Look up crock of BS, that is the line that will be displayed.

Gettlemen has no clue how to evaluate talent. None. Just a product of nepotism.

I love how Gettlemen is amoung the worst GM's in the history of the NFL and doesn't even have to answer for it.
Just peacefully takes his pictures with his family and rides off into the sunset. Earning some generational income along the way.
Must be nice to be inept, and get paid handsomely for it

No clue how it could be, I certainly don't think it should be. But multiple on the beat saying he is safe before Getty's retirement announcement is fueling my comments.

By the statement in that letter. The New GM has the ability to fire Chris Mara. I would want the GM to start with him.

The job of the GM is to do what is best for the team in the short term and long term. Dave did neither.
And that's not meant to be just a knock on him. It's the truth.
Jerry Reese succeeded with short term success but failed with his long term plan as well.
Putting your team in salary cap hell means you haven't done your job well. Period.
