could the team have some kind of a deal in the works for Toney and his lack of playing time is to preserve him... I like his talent but with this being an evaluation season if they can gamble and get a 2023 2nd for him for a team they believe won't be as good as said team believes they will be than pack his bags.... but I don't wanna him shipped for like a 4th or 5th rounder or anything like that the guy has the talent, just not sure he has the drive..

Absolutely. I’m a Toney doubter but I don’t want to be. I want him to tear things up for us. We’d be so much more effective if his talents are put to use. I’m just not going to chaulk up his lack of involvement as an oversight or coaching error. He could very well be the feature this week for a Carolina team that could lean on a good secondary and sell out to stop the run. Somebody in the passing game will have to force them out of that mindset, can’t think of someone better equipped to do it than him. But if he’s not getting targets by week 5, I’m not going to think the coaches are making a mistake. By week 5 Toney’s lack of involvement will be a deliberate choice. And so far this coaching staff deserves the benefit of the doubt for making that call. Right now? All speculation. I have the feeling that there is a level of confidence missing in Toney's relationship with the coaches that still has to be earned.. Reasonable thought process. It’s something. But since none of us are in the room maybe it’s not. This is the type of coaching staff that thinks farther down the road than us. Easily. Could have been deliberate and then unleashing him to is week to mess with a team’s prep for us. I don’t get fans that are hell bent on being right. Jones sucks. Toney sucks. Barkley sucks. It’s fine to have a deeply held opinion. Isn’t it bette for us if we’re wrong on one of these doomsday opinions. I don’t hate the kid. I just never believe a coach in a press conference. I watch behaviour. They trust Jones. They say it all the time. They road Barkley to victory Sunday. Fans listen to coaches/GMs too much. Watch their behaviour. Tells us all we need to know.

I don't care what the coaches/Schoen say. They aren't going to trash a player in public - any negative comments would hurt his trade value. It's like Gettleman saying he "didn't sign Beckham to trade him." At the time I said Gettleman was looking to trade Beckham and a few people thought I was out of my mind. Schoen said in the Spring that he is listening to offers about Toney. If they liked Toney, Toney would have been on the field more on Sunday. Shepard just came back from an injury that derailed Lawrence Taylor's career - with 2 weeks of practice...and they even used Shepard as an interior run blocker after missing the entire preseason. Not just his trade value. It hurts the team. I don’t want a mic in some players face asking if they agree with the coaches decision to not target Toney because he doesn’t understand t he playbook , and then saying something stupid. Or Toney getting asked about it and ripping the coaches. There’s literally nothing positive that can come from telling the press a negative truth. I’m always surprised when fans believe coaches or GMs on controversial questions.

Taylor was 33 and at the end of his prestigious career when he suffered a torn ACL. Shepard, is five years younger and still in his prime. As for Toney, when you’re involved in only seven snaps in the season opener. And two plays were gimmick plays. There is definitely something rotten behind the scenes.

To help the Giants win games, Daboll should play Toney more and get the ball to him. Inexcusable he didn't last game. Almost cost the Giants a win. He's a major talent.

IMHO, fans need to start to seeing the Toney pattern. It’s early but seems similar over multiple coaching regimes. Doesn’t look like there’s a lot of trust. Last year or this year. I don’t think anyone questions his talent, but something is stopping him from being more involved in the offence, regardless of the coaching staff. Last year you could say that coaching ineptitude was why he wasn’t more involved. You can’t say that this year. I hope it changes. But common sense tells me this is a Toney issue. He’s the only one that can solve it. Yeah…even the regime that drafted him tried not to play him. I think this is Toneys last year here. Today on the NFL channel Peter whatever his last name is said up until yesterday he had no idea about how deep in the dog house Toney is. Thats all he said. So take that for whatever it's worth I think your right he's gone. Maybe this season.

according to overthecap - cap hit is only about 1 million if he is traded...actually on 2nd look it looks like it would free up 1.2 million -not sure how accurate that is: overthecap.com/player/kadarius-toney/9484but with Wandale out, I can see Toney getting more involved going forward. 2nd straight season where coaches barely play him early in the season sets off an alarm for me. I almost laugh reading this thread. This team has no real starting wide receivers in their prime. Just talking about trading KT shows there has to be a problem. James was let go by SF. Golladay caught 2 balls yesterday and that was a nice surprise. Shep is getting older and coming off a big injury. Wandale is an undersized rookie. KT should be our go to guy in this group yet he does not play. maybe he is still a raw route runner

For what ever is going, if anything is going on hope it all comes together. Daboll had good things to say about him regarding his energy on the sidelines during the game. Pumping up his teammates and celebrating their good plays etc. I dig the way he handles the press too. His video on Giants home page shows he is about team .Check out at the .54 second mark when he is was asked if he was disappointed about his snap count. Great answer and not an answer all WR would give. I get all the frustration with him and I feel it too but I really dig him. Looking forward to this week and see how gets into the game plan www.giants.com/video/

I think he missed time as I said didn't have any preseason they are gonna bring him along slow, Instead of throwing him into the fire full time just to get him hurt. Just my feeling Daboll goes out of his way to praise him and Toney responds like the perfect teammate and a pure team player. I like him and can't wait to see when he starts getting bigger chunks of playing time, once that happens it might be hard to keep him off the field.

Saw his interview comments yesterday, getting asked about not being in the game plan more.
He handled the questions like an absolute pro. Laughed when he was asked if he was disappointed, saying “disappointed about winning? Sure. Ok” (paraphrasing).
Again, this was one of my points. With the coaches saying his number just didn’t come up on the plays we called, he’s STILL got reporters asking him a number of questions about not getting the ball more. Coaches and GMs don’t share their thoughts with reporters. They play verbal defence 90% of the time.
Anyway, the point of this comment: Toney earned some respect. It’s a small thing, but his position has a bit of a diva reputation. He’s not acting like one and I love that.

I agree but when that is all we've got to point to for success with a 2nd year top draft pick it leaves me smh. "despite popular opinion, he may not be a diva after all" is faint praise, isn't it? Not quoting you here CDN, just trying to isolate a thought on the subject.

Regardless of where he was drafted, the Giants staff owes him nothing. I like Toney and feel like the potential is there. However, potential means nothing and the injury concerns that have been voiced about him here have been valid. I can't get mad at the guy because football is a gladiator sport. However, he can't do anything to prove the doubters wrong when he can't get healthy enough to show and prove.
