" Phill Simms doesn't know football? Simms says JJ at 6 is a reach. For every person that feels he’s a reach there are others that think he’s worth a trade up into the top 5. I’m a Phil Simms fan so I’m gonna have to respect his opinion even if I don’t agree with it. Simms is the best QB in Giants history. If we draft JJ that may not be the case 10 years from now…..🤔 I'm agreeing with most of what your saying in this thread your smart and knowledgeable but Simms ain't the best NY Giants QB ever. Eli Manning is! Eli broke every Giants QB record and was the Super Bowl MVPs in two of his super bowl wins where he took the team on his back and won two SBs without Eli we don't win those SBs

People that are saying JJ McCarthy is a Reach early in the First Round and isn't good these people saying this don't know anything about Football. He is one of the top QBS in the draft and has a strong accurate arm and can run. This narrative that he is no good or on a not so good level with Mitch Truibisky is false. There is a lot of tunnel vision and close mindedness on this board regarding JJ.The sample size excuse is lame but exists. Here is what I focus on that others have a hard time digesting. He lead his high school team outside Chicago to a state championship. He led IMG to a national high school championship. He led Michigan to two Big Ten championships He led Michigan to the college football championship. His record at Michigan and IMG is 35 - 1 He has a strong arm, ( 61 mph second only to Joe Milton 62mph ) Accuracy ( 72% completion rate last season ) Escapability and is a very good runner as well as throws well on the run. Good Decision Maker 22 TD’s only 4 interceptions ( 3 in one game early in the season and 2 of those were blamed on his WR’s not making the right read) Tough - former hockey player Great Character - Role Model - Face of a franchise dude. Some people want to erase that because of what they perceive as a small sample = DUMB He’s gone from a second round prediction in January to a possible 2nd or 3rd choice in the first round. Why? Because teams have figured it out. They watched his tape - his combine - his Pro Day - his interview. Haters are gonna hate doubters are gonna doubt. The thing I like most is a lot of those folks have seen the light and they have opened their eyes to what the guy brings to the table. The others are who they are. For one reason or another they just don’t get it. All great in the NCAA. There is one thing you failed to acknowledge. And IMO: the only one that matters. There are times in an NCAA football game. Ok, so what does translate to success for you? Caleb folding with USC last year does that translate to success and the #1 pick. There are so many variables, including luck, that determine the success or failure of any given QB, that it's a guessing game as to which one is going to be successful, whatever the definition of that is. Who guessed before his draft that Tom Brady would have been the GOAT? Answer: nobody, because he was taken as an afterthought. There wasn't any team trading up or down for the opportunity to draft him. I don't pretend to know which QB is going to be successful or not, especially when the pros (not armchair GMs, like some on this board) strike out so often. You will never hear me beating the drum for any particular player in the draft, because I simply don't know. Neither do you. You’re correct I don’t “ know “ anything. But I have formed an opinion after watching JJ play 28 games in the Big 10 winning 27 of them - leading his team to 2 Big 10 Championships and a College National Championship. How many have you watched…….that’s what I thought. Essentially you’re right, you don’t know and I don’t know but I would say I have the edge in know -ledge about the guy. So you keep your opinion and I’ll keep mine. That works for me. I must add your responses are generally well written. I have no reason to bust your balls about your perspective. Those that like to throw darts and insults at me…those are the ones have most fun with. They try so hard….😊

The fact is nobody knows which QBs will successfully transition to the NFL and which won't. I watch a lot of college football and I have my opinions based on what I've seen, but that means nothing.
History is littered with great college quarterbacks who many felt were can't miss locks as great NFL players..and they busted. Then there are guys like Tom Brady who had 6 other quarterbacks taken before him, and we know how that turned out.
You don't know, I don't know, nobody on these boards knows and a lot of NFL GMs and scouts don't know. I am willing to bet out of Williams, Maye, Daniels and McCarthy, at least 2 of them do not transition to the NFL at the level they are expected to. And out of Nix, Penix, Rattler, etc, at least one of them exceeds expectations and becomes a great NFL QB.
But I don't know that for sure, and neither does anyone else.

First off yes I like Taulia if the top QBs aren't available. Hypothetical would you guys take Tua on the Giants right now? Dolphins fans love him I know because Dolphins are my second favorite football team I'm part of not only Giants communities on Twitter but Dolphins communities too on Twitter ever since I was a little boy I'm Giants #1 Dolphins #2 and IMHO Taulia grades out to be a similar QB to his Brother Tua the one knock on him is his height which I think is BS he is the best QB in University Of Maryland history statistically he is going to be a super star in the NFL like his brother. You can joke on me for this all you want I don't care.

The reasoning is Michigan was so good they didn’t have to throw. Then how do we know the Qb is so good b/c he didn’t throw and a good running game does open up the passing game. idk what he is and many of us looked on and waited for passes which never happened vs Penn State. Is he a product of a coach who got the most out of a Smith and Kaepernick who slipped when Harbaugh left or is he the real deal?

It's a shame Michigan played suck a easy schedule to give themselves the best shot at a title. Look at what happened 2 years ago when the Giants had an easy schedule since it faked out their experts at scouting into thinking Jones was good. The same can be true with McCarthy. Penn State and Ohio State were easy??

For every person that feels he’s a reach there are others that think he’s worth a trade up into the top 5. I’m a Phil Simms fan so I’m gonna have to respect his opinion even if I don’t agree with it. Simms is the best QB in Giants history. If we draft JJ that may not be the case 10 years from now…..🤔 I'm agreeing with most of what your saying in this thread your smart and knowledgeable but Simms ain't the best NY Giants QB ever. Eli Manning is! Eli broke every Giants QB record and was the Super Bowl MVPs in two of his super bowl wins where he took the team on his back and won two SBs without Eli we don't win those SBs I get that and I respect that opinion. Eli did some great things and brought us a championship. Made many great throws. He’s also a great guy. Simms never caved in the pocket like girl from what I recall nor did he play duck n chuck. Eli had too many OMG don’t hit me moments in the pocket. Those 3 things were most aggravating. We’re allowed different favorites.

Considering JJ’s limited weapons in a game that level I think he did great. There were also 2-maybe 3 drops in that game. Loveland and Morgan I believe. With weapons JJ will catch fire in the NFL.

Perhaps you are right, but with any draftee QB it's a wait and see proposition.

If 90% of your opinion is from watching JJ play in games, then you know nothing. You can have an opinion, what’s the point of being on a message board without opinions. But let’s not pretend we have the faintest idea of what we’re talking about.
We’re picking lottery numbers and arguing about who picked the right ones before the draw. NFL teams invest tens of millions of dollars into accurately predicting what a player will be in the NFL, and for 1st rd QBs in particular they get it wrong 60-70% of the time.
How so? If you're not watching game film what are you basing your opinion on? Numbers never paint a whole picture, especially for a QB who plays in a system like Michigan's.
While I agree the draft can be a crap shoot, and most fans don't have the faintest idea about certain things like contracts, evaluating talent isn't as difficult as the Giants have made it out to be over the last 10+ years. I honestly think some of us could've done a better job drafting talent than these last few regimes. We've been comically bad, particularly after round-2.

Well they all start in the NCAA 🤷♂️ How else do you analyze them? Emotionally Mentally Physically JJ checks all the boxes. Emotionally - never seen JJ get rattled, lose his composure or breakdown. ( I can’t say the same about Caleb Williams) Mentally - JJ meditates on the field before every game. His mind is fine tuned daily especially on Game Day. They’ve even done some special stories on it if you haven’t checked those out they’re very interesting. Physically no red flags. No need to go further TEM you are a Top Shelf part of this board. You deserve respect from me regardless of what your opinion’s are. You may hate to hear that - not many people want to be respected by someone who is disliked by a majority but…..😀 I don't know if he does????? He threw 18 passes in the championship game completed 8, for 140 yards. 56%. He never threw for 3000 in a season. Was 35th in passing yards. To me that reeks of game manager not QB. Was that attributable to the QB or the system?

To me that reeks of game manager not QB. In a game in which we see scores change continuously in the 4th qtr has this kid taken the ball, down by a score and drove the field for the win? There is more talk than execution on that field. They are a run dominant team. They didn’t need to throw the ball. JJ was dealing with an injury ( much reported ) so it you don’t need to pass the ball why risk furthering an injury that could cost them a shot at the National Championship? The strategy they took worked. JJ has won Championships at every level he’s played at. Unlikely the system. The system theory however fits Bo Nix.
