Wow. Crown the kid already after 3 preseason games... Get that yellow jacket ready. I love what I have seen, but some of you guys are going overboard. We have to wait until he faces a true defense and exotic schemes, not in the preseason. I will be gladly eating crow if he turns into a top QB in the league, you're damn skippy, but the over reactions on his preseason are a bit insane right now. As for Slayton, my biggest issues with him were injury concerns and drops. He was a 5th rounder for a reason. As for game 3, I will watch it today so I have no comment on that but from what I heard DJ looked good at what he was asked to do. I know Eli is starting the season but I really hope they move on quickly once it goes south and dont wait for the season to be over. Don't be rooting for failure..... With Barkley and Shepherd back and a relatively easy start, Eli could be our QB for quite a while this year.
Now, IF it goes south, the kid should get as much live experience as we can throw at him. The transition is much easier than a lot of people here are making it out to be. There is no fight to be had. It will all reveal itself.
Mostly, every Giants fan should be filled with pride and thoughtful anticipation that we may very well have found our next franchise QB. Very few teams actually pull it off that smoothly (if we do). That thought makes me smile.
Jomo you know Mara wants Eli to start every game and if we are losing and Eli is playing just ok nothing great he will still force Eli on us. That would make absolutely no sense because Eli won’t be here next year and your not going anywhere. This is why it made no sense to even have him on the team we can be bad without him and at least we would have 17 million to improve the team.

What is wrong with a little time to let DJ naturally progress and watch and learn from a pro? It looks certain Eli is the starter and will remain so.
Giants are improving or so it seems like it in pre season but it is the regular season that counts and there it will be Eli's to lose. If it turns out to be a winning record than that is a pleasant surprise for all and the future for the Giants takes a positive step forward.
Even if they go 8-8 Eli remains the starter.
If the season tanks then it makes sense for DJ to get the start for game experience for the next season and Eli goes off into the sunset.

Far too soon for a "Crow eating" thread. And that is coming from ME!!! I want Jones to start game 1. I believe he is ready and gives us as much a chance to win (or better) as Eli. The o-line is still shaky (Hernandez looked bleak against a pro-bowl pass rusher) and the defense is young and STILL can't get off the field on 3rd down. This team isn't going to win a ton of games this year, so imo, it makes little sense to keep trotting Eli out there. Let the kid go through his rough patches sooner rather than later. But, for the love of God, can we PLEASE put the brakes on calling people out for hating the pick? That's coming.........I promise. Fbomb I’m hoping DJ becomes a great QB and I want him to play but it’s most likely he will only play after the Patriots game if Eli has played like he usually plays. We have a very soft schedule the first 4 weeks. If we are 1-5 or 2-4 after the Patriot’s game that would be the time to put Sweet Daniel in. Why lose another season .....have we not done enough of that

Ok, I admit I was wrong. I wanted DJ at 17 not 6. I wanted Bush at 6. The Giants obviously knew what they were doing at 6 and FBomb was on point about the kid from the start. However the negatives Nancy's and Ned's whined to high heaven Jones would be a bust or average at best. How's that crow taste? This kid is gonna be a star. Toughness - smarts - accuracy - class - knowledge - cool in the pocket - throws darts. He should start but he won't and I understand that. Let's see what Eli can or "can't" do first. Slayton can't catch or run a pattern other than a fly or go. More negative Ned's and Nancy's crawled out of the woodwork about this guy. Well he's proven the naysayers wrong with a good camp and caught the first dart thrown to him in a game last night. I said he was a great pick and will score often. I'm sticking to it. Kudo's to those who may not of supported the picks but had an open mind. The belly achers from the start on draft day have been served up some Tum's trying to help digest the over indulgence of Crow. I realize it's early but these two will continue to serve up Tum's to the draft day belly acher's. I'm sticking with my draft day prediction that Connely will start at LB by mid season if not sooner. How ridiculously premature. Get a grip on yourself

In what sport is natural progression the stopping of playing in games? Natural progression is playing. Sitting and watching is unnatural. It’s worked before, but usually a guy who sits was selected well beyond # 6 and a legit starter and good team are why they’d remain watching. We are not that most likely.

Slayton was a 5th round draft pick . If he is on the team after year 3 . He had a successful career. Hate and a 5th rounder are the norm. Some expect all players to come out of the box at a high level no matter at what point they were drafted in As far as DJ his book as still to be written. I do not believe anyone hates him . Most did and some still do, believed he was drafted too high. Or in the case of Carter he was the wrong skin color for his liking. Did people really not like that Slayton pick? I thought that was viewed as very good value. My biggest problem wasnt taking Jones was passing on Josh Allen. I think we could of got Allen and Jones. I think we missed on not just having a good draft but one of the best Giant drafts of all time. I believe we could of got our starting QB and an eventual top 5 edge rusher in the NFL. I just don't like the idea of taking a QB at 6 and sitting him on the bench. One of the biggest advantage a team has is saving money on a starting QB. Wasting one of those years is bad practice.

When I was watching the draft live I really thought we were going to end up with both of them

I think he has what it takes to be a good NFL WR Time will tell. As for Jones i didnt know a lot about him but was impressed with his numbers on some terrible Duke teams with awful Lines and WRs. I love what ive seen so far

We had to get him at 6 Also rumors we were in talks with the Raiders to move up for Jones (wondering if the Raiders knew they were the only ones that enamored with Ferrell and were trying to play the Giants and Denver against each other to get their guy and a bunch of picks)

Something people are overlooking Jones already has chemistry with Slayton from both of them being at rookie camp, throwing extra at rookie camp after practice, being with the 2nd team in the offseason.
I'm thinking Slayton has already earned his roster spot because of this, not to mention he gives us the dynamic sizzle to open everything else up.
I'm also thinking Slayton doesn't become a big factor in this offense until Jones takes over because of this(though as we have seen if a receiver can get open he can make him productive.
We all seriously need him to show up and at the very least resemble what Ted Ginn jr has done (influence the defense to open up the underneath),along with Carter and Xman and Carter on defense, because if these 3 can show they are legit going to be good, the 2020 offseason now becomes a dream scenario where the team has a lot of cap space and only one real need(long term RT),so all the extra cap space can be used to start extending our young guys and that we are not shopping hungry at the draft and can be in position to go BPA throughout (which is how top depth is acquired that can eventually replace aging starters all over the team)

Because they think Josh Allen could have been 6 and Jones could have been 17. For as much of a beast as Allen has looked, I'm taking Jones at 6 with how he's looked based on the importance of the two positions. If only there was some way to see what would have happened if we did take Allen at 6 and see if Jones would have dropped us at 17. I have no interest in that. When you need your next franchise QB and you have conviction around one, you leave nothing to chance. You take him when your turn comes up, at 6 in this case. Don't get me wrong, if you screw up, you need to pay the price with your job but the great GMs don't think defensively.

Im not. Glad thats clarified. I am into the 3rd Q now in this game, and this looks much like the same team as last year. Not sure how much better it will be. OL looks shakey. Defense looks off (expected with all the youth). No return game. ect. I still say 5-6 wins this year. Its not what I want, or am rooting for, but its what I see right now. Maybe the O will look better once SQB and Shep are playing. And maybe the defense is still playing it vanilla. I don't know how you can compare last year's regular season offense to the one we are watching in this pre-season while mentioning SQB and Shep as sort of after thoughts. They are our 2 most important play makers and haven't had a touch between them. Hey, you could be right about this team but it looks crisper to me, the execution by two quarterback no less.

People think I had a problem with Slayton because I pointed out that he had a pretty big drop issue in college. But these people were not paying attention to what I said. I always said there was good value at the pick because his hands issue appears to be fixable rather than mental. His drop problem always appeared to me to be because he was not coached properly. He is clearly a very right eye dominant athlete and his college coaches didnt address this issue, despite there being very well established drills to help this problem. He is also likely left handed, this is less important info, but only matters in relation to his being right eye dominant. Go back and watch his college tape, or the catches in camp, or even what little we have seen of him this preseason. His best work is when he is on the left side looking over his right shoulder, or when he is moving from left to right. Conversely, in college virtually every drop he has came when he lined up on the right side, or was moving right to left. Frankly, the Auburn coaches should be ashamed they did not address this very fixable issue.I just think the Auburn program is not very good at developing WRs at anything aside from run blocking.

The only situation where I wouldn’t play a rookie is if there is no blocking as they’d develop bad habits rushing out the ball and become shell shocked like David Carr years ago and Rosen last year. The Giants have invested in the Oline already. They have vets at the Ts and 2 potential Pro Bowlers at the G spots. They also have a Pro Bowl RB.

Did you post to point out strengths on our squad, or just to gloat? A lot of us hated the pick! I hate until I see performance on the field...then I get excited. Easy to hate with this team. Now, I saw Jones performance first day and I changed my mind. Free country! I was pleased with the results. Key word RESULTS. And I will be even more pleased if he performs like this in real games, not preseason. If he does not, then I will damn sure express my displeasure. So hold up on throwing around that “crow eating.”
