I have no interest in that. When you need your next franchise QB and you have conviction around one, you leave nothing to chance. You take him when your turn comes up, at 6 in this case. Don't get me wrong, if you screw up, you need to pay the price with your job but the great GMs don't think defensively. If the giants FO felt they could get him at 17 . Their conviction would have been questionable. I haven't thought about it that way, but you are correct. If you believe strongly that you have identified your next franchise QB, you don't try to get too cute with the pick. And in respecting the competition, if you are a good GM you know that at least one other GM has seen the same qualities as you.

They had a second round designation on him. They traded their second round pick to move up. They got lucky that X was still available at 95. Jones Would he have bee there @17. They obvisoly did not think so.

I'll admit that I didn't like the pick at 6 and still don't . We dont have the talent on this team to do the " Kansas City " model . We needed a true immediate impact player on defense at 6. Taking Jones at 6 and keeping Eli makes zero sense . If we were confident enough that Jones was going to be great we should have been confident enough to let Eli go.. We have holes to fill on defense just to be competitive and having ELi's money on the books and a first round Qb pick is redundant. That is my gripe with it and it was nothing to do with Jones skilkset . Jones looks great so far and I hope he has an amazing career for us but all u guys looking for people to eat crow sound silly . He's played in 3 pre season games , let's be reasonable.

It is what it is,and it's only for a year (or less).

I didn't want Jones, period. He's already better than I expected without playing a meaningful game, so I'm obviously happy to eat that one.
What did Slayton do to prove haters wrong? I've been at the beach and haven't seen the game. I did s he caught a ball bear the goal line, but besides that I haven't seen anything......did he look good?

Yes playing time is experience if it "good" experience varying degrees of success look at Josh Rosen. It has to be the "right" situation to start a rookie and if the Giants wait a year with DJ so be it and I am fine with it. The only situation where I wouldn’t play a rookie is if there is no blocking as they’d develop bad habits rushing out the ball and become shell shocked like David Carr years ago and Rosen last year. The Giants have invested in the Oline already. They have vets at the Ts and 2 potential Pro Bowlers at the G spots. They also have a Pro Bowl RB. Thanks, Carr is good example too. DJ for a rookie who had all the critics watching has done admirably well shutting them done by his performance and his handling of the Baker M comment. So I am looking forward to him being the QB of the Giants. The Giants OL certainly "looks" to be better this season I really want to see how they perform in a real game now. I think it is Manning's job to lose this season or if the Giants have a losing season then Coach has every reason to give DJ the start. It's tough rebuilding and losing these last two season but I think the Gmen will surprise a few teams this season. Imagine being the Colts right now with Luck retiring. Fortunately for them there is a good QB class to draft from in 2020.

Fbomb I’m hoping DJ becomes a great QB and I want him to play but it’s most likely he will only play after the Patriots game if Eli has played like he usually plays. We have a very soft schedule the first 4 weeks. If we are 1-5 or 2-4 after the Patriot’s game that would be the time to put Sweet Daniel in. Why lose another season .....have we not done enough of that I didn’t see why Eli was even on the team after trading Odell and drafting Jones. I am sick of the losing too but this is just what I think the Giants would do if the season is lost after the first 6 games. I don’t think the Giants are going to throw Daniel Jones into the lions den vs the Patriots that’s why I think week 6 is the time vs the Cardinals.

Of course if the record at that time is not good.
