The highlight of his career is running over Deion Sanders though.... I was at that game I believe thats the game he was referring to in the interview, I was ragging on bunch of obnoxious cowboy roaches after that lol it was fun.

Interesting to hear how Dan Reeves didn’t allow audibles at the line of scrimmage.

Jeez I hated Dave Brown when he was on the Giants but after watching the interview I like him. He’s an honest, down to earth guy who very accurately assessed his NY Giant career as disappointing at best.
I’m happy that his life has turned out well.
Class act.
And I’m glad he ran over Showboat Sanders.

I have absolutely no clue what the Giants saw in Dave Brown. No arm at all and some of the most unsightly mechanics I've ever witnessed. The only thing they should have ever given him was their stock portfolio since he is such a successful broker now.

4min mark. Dave Brown tells a team tampering story
ummm....was he supposed to admit that?

This is an amazing interview of Dave Brown by Rich Eisen.
Some very interesting stories, plus the fact that he is in contact with Daniel Jones etc.
That was great. Thanks Scoo. Dave sounds like a great guy and it was very interesting to hear him tell his story.
I have to admit as well that that while I heard a lot of positive things about Jones pre-draft, the fact that he played for Duke was something I had an issue with.

Yeah I saw this earlier today. Interesting interview. I was floored by the fact Bellichick wanted him for the Browns but somehow got out manuevered by the Giants. The other thing that blew me away was Spurrier worked with him at Duke and gave him green light to change plays and Reeves was the opposite. He claims the Giants had a set way to run the offense and that was that. Who knows if he ended up with Bill B how things would have turned out but I doubt he would have succeeded anyway. So much of this is fate though. You have to get drafted to the team that’s the right fit... Makes me dislike him a bit less, and Reeves (who I was never a fan of) even more!! No offense but why would anyone "dislike" Dave Brown? Because he wasn't a franchise QB? Were you?

Both Duke guys, not surprising. Brown is pretty far from the first promising college QB that didn’t pan out in the NFL. It happens more often than not. Should Jones avoid him like the plague? That’s pretty dumb imo.

He all so kinda confirms the rumors from Denver when Elway and Reeves were together that Reeves was a shit head coach.
Interesting to hear that about Reeves, and without that insight we'd have no way of knowing how he ran his offense. It's worth noting that Phil had such a good year in Reese's offense.

That was a really good interview.
September 15th, 1996 I went to giants stadium with my next oldest brother and my dad. I was 13. Tough loss to the redskins. After the game, in the fading light, my brother and I were playing in the parking lot, just outside gate C. I flipped the ball over a row of cars and it landed in stride in my bros hands. Best throw I’ve ever made.
I hear from behind me “hey!! You do that again...(13 year old me scared to bejeezus looking at a group of very big, very angry giants fans)...we’re gonna sign you to play qb. Dave Brown sucks!”
He wasn’t a good qb. But I’ll remember that forever.

He trucked Dion Sanders for a touchdown once and had some nice chemistry with Chris Calloway Ah the years when we had Rodney Hampton and 10 other guys on offense. And there is a subset of our fan base that wants to go back to that style of offense punts > points [/i)

I was not, and yes, his play on the field had me dislike him (as a player, nothing personal, mind you). With the hate and vitriol that Eli has been given on these boards over the years you really need to ask that question?

I was not too young...I suffered through the Dave Brown, Kent Graham and Danny Kanell years...lets hope that DJ is the real deal so we don't have to suffer through another QB hell...I may be wrong but I have a better feeling about DJ than I do about Shurmur...it's looking more and more that Shurmur is another coordinator that is not HC material .... Oh I suffered through those years, i was just too young to remember how that draft played out. im 42. I was just that sort of casual bobo that only knew 8 names on the team. I'm not too young, but I don't think that story has ever been told publicly before.

How stupid do you have to be to run an offense like that?

There may be a couple kooks who have gone after Eli personally but I really don't remember any.

Plus the fact that he wore #17. I would bet my bottom dollar that the Giants asked DJ to not wear #17 to avoid the obvious comparisons.

Makes me dislike him a bit less, and Reeves (who I was never a fan of) even more!! This just serves as a reminder that we as fans never really know what is going on out there. I remember Dave Brown complaining about Reeves. Can't remember if it was after Reeves was fired. Must have been. He complained about the complex calls and the inability to get out of a play. he talked about how they knew a play was doomed when they walked up the the line. That was back then.
I will say that I never disliked Dave Brown. he just wasn't a starting caliber NFL QB. Not his fault. he loved the Giants and wanted to plat for them. I'm sure he tried his best.
We are so quick to villainize players. CC Brown, Ron Dayne, Dave Brown...etc... Why? Because they struggled on the field? Seems a waste of energy to me. They are just football players doing their best....and they played for Big Blue. I respect any player who goes on the field and endures what it takes to play in the NFL.
My God....they are just people like the rest of us in the end.

Yeah, now I know why Belichick failed in Cleveland. He saw something in Dave Brown and wanted him. I mean, my God, there was not one single moment, not one single throw he ever made, that looked impressive.

As someone up-thread mentioned, he seems like a down-to-earth person and a really nice guy. And very smart too.

Interesting to hear how Dan Reeves didn’t allow audibles at the line of scrimmage. He had to change to come back and bring the falcons to a superbowl can't see how a team can win being stuck in one play wow.
