The fact there was there was that much trade discussion says they were open to trading the pick. I didn’t see anything legitimate from any reporter who actually is trustworthy. Just nonsense. Im sure they took calls (they’re not Gettleman), but I highly doubt there was any real way forward to get them to pass on Maye. Every beat reporter close to the Giants has said these trade talks were 100% happening. If you want to just say all sources are unreliable, ok. You're entitled to.

If there were legitimate trade calls they didn't stay on the phone too long. Patriots wanted Maye. After that the tier 1 QBs were gone. I think JJ was a smokescreen the whole time the way things went down. No one was going to trade up for him.

I think it was a matter of compensation, which was probably excessive.

The Vikings would have traded up for him since Schoen did say the had an offer to trade back. Maybe it was the Broncos or Raiders since both needed QBs.

There’s a difference between making calls and there actually being serious trade talks. Actual brass-tacks trade talk would not have started until the pats were on the clock. There’s really nothing to suggest the Pats would have considered passing on Maye. Giants beat reporters I really don’t have a high opinion of. Get me something from Jay Glazer. It’s a nice fun and exciting idea to think about making a big draft trade but in real life where things are serious there was probably never more than a 5% chance of one being possible.

Of course it was rumor BS three QB's were still on the Board after the Giants pick , according to the arm chair GM's here they all had more talent then Jones , why not draft one of them? The Giants believe in Jones is why. lol, your agenda is sad. It has nothing to do with believing in Jones as it does with the business of the NFL. Jones has a $40M cap hit this year. Now is not the time to bring in a 6th overall QB selection. As hard as this will be on you emotions: Schoen is building a team to plug another, better, QB into in 2025.

Because it would have been poor value at that pick. The best value by far at #6 was either Odunze or Nabers. You can't "shop hungry" as David Shaw said yesterday. They are most certainly looking to move on from Daniel Jones after 2024....probably before. But they just weren't in a good position to draft one of those three top QB prospects.they could have gave what the Pats wanted to get Maye. Franchise guys are invaluable. Unless your "process" tells you that Maye is not a franchise guy, then i get why you couldn't commit. The again, this is the same "process" that told Schoen/Daboll that Daniel Jones was their franchise guy but a calendar year ago. How valid is this process? Im curious to see what this roster, in the vision of Schoen does over the next two years. Playoffs are the expectation. I want to see how this "team first" approach works in practice, and not in theory. I'm sure they considered it. But despite "reports" we have no idea if the Pats had any intention of trading that pick. They also desperately need a QB. If they were willing, we also have no idea what they wanted for it.

There is no actual evidence to support the Pats were seriously open to trading that pick. Ask yourself - if you were the Patriots, given their situation, why the hell would you trade that pick? The Giants/Pats were chatting all day yesterday, not according to one source, but literally, all of them. As for why they would trade the pick? im not sure, but it takes two to tango in any and all negotiations. Pats were seriously discussing a trade down and wouldn't budge on their price. Neither would Joe. The fact that they were even discussing it means they weren't completely sold. But Joe wears the responsibility of this roster. He's the professional, im ready to see what kind of record we have with the plan they've chosen. Year 3 means results are expected. While I agree that on the surface the Giants were talking to New England because of their interest in Maye I just want to pose another scenario… What if they didn’t want Maye? What if they just wanted the Vikes to think they were dead set on a QB? What if they were talking to NE and even Az and the Chargers because they wanted the Vikes to trade up before them to get JJ. Clearly they had no interest in JJ so it would have bumped MHJ possibly down to them. Not saying it’s why. Just saying that kind of misdirection goes on. Or perhaps the Giants were trying to leverage Tenn? Had Az traded out, the Chargers might’ve taken MHJ and Tenn, wanting Alt, might’ve moved up one spot to insure getting him, giving the Giants an extra 3rd rounder. So much stuff is discussed that we have no idea about.

Hard to understand how their perspective changes 360 degrees on Jones in a calendar year I think most teams are coming to the realization that it’s unrealistic to expect a rookie QB to do well without a good situation in place. Very few guys can pull that off. Back in the day, QBs sat, learned and FOs would build the team up for them to take over. Now it’s right into the fire and the majority can’t handle it and fail.

Yup, Simms was season 6 after he was benched by BP.

What clued me in was when Mara went out and said that the front office told him this is one of the best qb classes ever… Vikings saw right through it and saved themselves some picks in the process

I don’t think they wanted to move up to get him, but I think they were trying to engineer a way to get him to fall into their laps, since I think they knew that even if MHJ was there at 5, the chargers would still take Alt.. so they were trying hard to get a team to move up to 4 to take a QB
