The Giants never had their full starting lineup of receivers together for any game last year. A healthy lineup of Shepard, Engram, Tate and Slayton (don't forget Smith) would be more than most defenses could handle. Unfortunately you can't count on Shepard/Engram. And both of them could be gone next year along with Tate. I think you could see WR addressed anywhere from the 3rd round back. With the depth at the position in this draft I'd like to see us come out with at least 2 WR's. both don't even need to be immediate contributors, they could play ST's and get some experience to be ready for next year. Preferably we take a WR in the 4th round and also the 6th or 7th depending on other positions.

There are so many good WR's in this draft. I have to think that there will be spots in this draft after the first round where a WR will be the highest rated player on the board.

I cant remember the last time we had a full slate of healthy WRs. OBJ/Cruz/Randle was supposed to be deadly and that never panned out. OBJ/Cruz/Shepard didnt happen because Cruz was never the same after the knee. OBJ/Shepard/Marshall never happened.
This team has sick injuries with WRs.

Devin Duvernay from Texas is my #1 wish at WR (being real, thinking we won't go WR in round 1 or 2). He has really good hands, catches everything and can play outside or take the slot if Shep is out.
Shep is a really good player, the injuries might be too much for him to overcome. Tate can still catch but at his age he is getting zero separation over the middle, just gets smothered. Don't know what to think of Engram anymore, just hope he is healthy. Slayton was a great pick, I think he will look good in this Garrett offense.

Im optimistic about slayton like a lot of us, im a bit concerned about sterling sheppard, overall i think we're a bit more behind the curve with receivers than some analysts claim. tate i dunno, i like the dude but age and injuries a bit concerning.
i still think we need our modern day nicks/burress guy. (slayton could be?)
we need another guy to grow up with jones, a dude thats 'his'
i hope we manage to snag a sleeper from somewhere in this draft, we still need playmakers for receiver.

Overall...it's a weak unit. If the Giants needs a big play...who do they throw to? They don't have a guy. And they don't have a guy that would command a double team.
I'd move Engram out of the TE spot. Let him roam more like a WR. His asset is straight line speed. Let him use it.
Hopefully, they can get a nice possession WR in mid rounds of the draft.

I feel we draft one WR from rounds three on. The only way I see them drafting one in round two would be if one fell to the second round which they had a first round grade on.

Oh but for 3 picks in the first cpl rounds... snag 2 top lineman (and or linebacker if available), sneak in a receiver, then carry on with D and oline

While I like Duvernay, the guy can barely run the route tree. He cant play slot, and hes a little slight for an outside WR. I will say this, he fights really well for contested balls for a guy his size, he plays bigger than he is. I think hes a WR3 in the NFL, we need a true WR1 and we probably arent getting that after our 2nd round pick, considering we wont pick until the end of the 3rd. Best value for a stud is pick 36. I want Higgins or Mims at 36, both would give us a post-up game we havent had since Plax, those two are TD machines.

and here we go again with this...
Just because I'm sick of a shit o line and wanting to go as heavy as possible on o line this year doesn't mean I have forgotten we have to still replace some of the devastating firepower we didn't last year after the trade...
Modern NFL 101 You need athletic dynamic firepower all over the field to stress defenses at every level (and a good O line )to have a contemporary modern offense to have a relevant team and win games,as it makes it much easier on the defense, and more importantly if you have dynamic speed outside..and a good O line, dictating terms on offense circa 2020 is frightening teams with playmakers into playing soft and allowing the offense to control the game with underneath passing and running it The Chiefs last year proved 100% everything I was preaching last year that either got mocked my the usual suspects or ignored... Their team speed allowed them to now tell teams that were trying to slow games down with ball control and forcing the Chiefs to go underneath..ya know what,we will play your game,we will run it and use Kelcey because we will score still every time we have the ball, can you hold serve?..
So Getting back to our team Other than Slayton...who we don't quite know his ceiling but teams now will be accounting for him Shepard (one concussion away from retirement] Tate(aging and expensive] Coleman (useless when healty)
Its a major need to add to this unit and with dynamic speed guys...
I'm not in favor of the "big bodied possession type "guys 1.because the concept of a plodding possession receiver is dated, because all a team has to do is put a physical guy on him and one on one is taken out.. 2.these guys who are good in college can't get seperation in the pros..
Size is a bit overrated in this era...let the TEs be these guys
Now With that said No way at 4/6..ect...we need the wall...even though a bigger need a WR is just as big a toy as Simmons is that early(awaits the #triggered]
Unless we trade back with Oakland or Jax and get their other 1wt we can't do this in the first
But there are some great gets starting in the 2nd Mims would be the prize ..doubt if he falls but he has the rare speed to go with his size .. Reagor is like another Ruggs
3rd..Peoples Jones,Van Jefferson,Duverney 4th..maybe Bowden..KJ Hill 5th Quez Watkins.. Also have day 3 hybrid playmakers like Antonio Gibson and Issah Wright..
So unlike last year we can do the Pink Floyd method Get your meat and potatoes out of the way early then have desert (pudding)

Some good players for sure though in this WR class.

He certainly isn't great at running routes, it's the weakest part of his game, but I think he would be fine in the slot or outside. I do not think we will get a WR1 unless we take one in round 1-2 though and I don't see that happening. I'm interested to see what Slayton does though this year.
Think about this, Odell had one of the best rookie years ever at WR with 91 catches, 1300 yards (14per catch) and 12 TDs. Slayton started fewer games and still managed to get 48 catches, 740 yards (15 per catch) and 8 TDs. Now I think Odell is one of the best WRs I have ever seen but Slayton with more chances this year might be a very good #1 WR.

Some will hate him because he isn't a prototypical old school Giants type WR.. For the modern style NFL offense... he is perfect, can be moved around outside, slot, dynamic speed and ball skills, post catch skills.. Would be an amazing compliment to Slayton ..(he could flip flop around a formation with Shepard in an 11) Only issue We would have to take him at 36 if we don't get an additional 2nd... Im not sure I would take the bite on him when there are similar players later in the draft Methinks Mims or maybe Reagor would be the only recievers I would take at 36 You have to think value and what will be available later.. I'm thinking without a trade back as it is we have to weigh which to bypass this year,C or edge rusher..and 36 is the sweet spot for both

I don't see how anyone can take Engram seriously at this point. So whats your solution? Kaden Smith of course. And his whopping 9 games under his belt. I know it’s not popular opinion, and his injury history is at a comical level. Engram is our starting tightend until his usual injuries turn up. This is our fan base with Engram. When healthy Fan A. “He’s a great player, a leader. We have to resign him now.” When injured
Fan B. “He sucks, always injured. He’ll tear a ligament opening up an email.” So in conclusion, when healthy he’s great. When he’s hurt he blows. This season could very well be his last year in blue.

I don't even think he's "great" when healthy....it could be a product of how our genius coordinators used him the last few years but I've never been blown away by his performances... Apart from his obvious injuries, I don't think he was worth the pick at all even when he's healthy. I would've traded him a long time ago but hey whatever. Now we're probably screwed with him thanks again Jerry!
