I have played organized football. Acting like everyone who has played is some beacon of knowledge is comical. And some people have never played and know an immense amount. Fake News. I dont think the OP is saying that at all. I think what the OP is saying is if you haven't walked in a players shoes, then you really have no business critisizing that player. There is a difference in actually playing a position in organized football and getting your ass handed to you and knowing how that feels then someone that has no idea about playing the game and just talking shit like they do know. There is no better insight than actual experience and that is what I think the OP is stressing. But than again i could be totally off base so who knows You're 100% correct.

His point is well taken. Only those that have played at least the high school level really know the ins and outs and some that played in college (like myself) have a more informed view and realities of what happens on the field and within a team. Anyone has the right to give an opinion on the Giants and their reasons for that opinion, but it is a fact that those with actual experience understand the game, politics, and reality of a team’s current status and future prospects......and right now both are heading down......and fast.
Understanding the game is great, but there's something to be said for someone's communication skills and personality on a message board as well.
Who's actually going to listen to a knowledgeable prick?
As someone who can admit to being a little abrasive this post isn't going to win him new fans...shame because he actually has good points

I don't think anyone doubts that there aren't things that can be learned from guys that have played the game, but that's just a part of the experience here. There's also camaraderie, humor, sharing memories and more.
To make a blanket statement like that is pretty shallow as far as I'm concerned. No one is interested in being talked down to.

I did play for a couple of years in high school but learned most of what I know from playing tackle football on the city street in front of my house wearing only (poorly made and fitted) helmets. I played in the "before foam" era....just leather and canvas straps inside. I didn't play organized football, but I did stay in a Holiday inn Express...

Well I'm speaking about all the rest because they're good enough, they're smart enough, and gosh darn it, we like them.

The OP has himself demonstrated numerous times on this MB that alleged prior football experience does not necessarily translate into smart football ideas/evaluations.

So this certainly disqualifies all players on the current Giants team from posting...

That makes you the perfect example for this discussion. One can tell you have knowledge of the game when you choose to share it, but that is not your persona as a poster.

So, you think you're better than me?
Ok....
How many of you posers have played football with a pro football player?
Of which, how many played with a Giant?
And of those, how many played with a HOF'er?
I win.

... there should be an asterisk beside your username so the people who have seen the chaos from a field level view can interrupt your opinions from a bird’s eye view. That’s all. Nice appeal to authority fallacy. If you can't make and defend your points in a cogent and persuasive way, I don't care how much football you played. No logical fallacy is going to give you any more credibility than anyone else on this board.

There should be an asterisk next to the names of arrogant douche bags who think they are better than everyone else because they played Pop Warner football.

Easy making fun of pop warner now, some of the most complex offenses and defenses have come from that league

I’m still laughing from Morehead going completely off 15 minutes ago. Jeez. And no, it doesn’t say Duke. I think it says Toys R Us.
