It is hilarious that people actually think that real progress is made in a team that finished 6-10. Are our standards really that low? The only progress that was made is that we FINALLY beat Dallas and Philadelphia. that, and the D looked like it was coming together, rather than the totally lost in space unit that we had been rolling out for a few years prior. Also, I think our O line is in better shape going into next year than we've been in some time. Yep, but we are starting over yet again with a new O-line coach, coming from the college system. The line seems physically stronger, but the mental things they have to do as a unit are again concerning to start another season. I suppose we will have a more normal preseason, though.

i agree with this. I dont know if i feel comfortable with the Top 3 CBs. I dont know if I agree with those currently at the top on most board. They all have holes And I think that the top 3 WR’s and Pitts will all be rated higher than the CB’s at an area of equal or greater need for us. I think that CB is only a consideration if all 4 are gone before 11.

Appears the same for many wide receivers too. Give the Qb time and somebody gets open. Look at CB Jeff Okudah. He was torched all season while the Lions front 7 struggled to pressure the QB. Makes me think you can find many CBs to play well so long as you pressure the QB and they may all struggle w/o a QB pressured. Why not wait on CB then?

Should be best player available, and I think the Giants will do that.......after they trade down. Judge will bring more of the Patriot way in this year’s draft. They may hold and draft if they get the pass rusher they covet. In the end, they should just take the best player available. Buffalo did this for 3 years and improved greatly. There a lot of good players available in the first through most of the round. Trading back and adding another 1 or 2 2nd day draft picks (depending how far down in the first they go) would be great. Getting 5 players in the first two days could be great for the team as a whole. what the Giants really need is for one of the supposed “can’t miss” players drops to them. At that point they could do very well trading down in the first. This could be the first TE, first pass rusher, or one of the big 3 WRs. While the Giants could draft this player, they need more and grabbing more early round 2021 picks is the answer. if the Giants did choose a player at No. 11, I would prefer a pass rusher, the OL, then TE (if Pitts is still available), then WR. WRs are a dime a dozen and the hit rate on the annual “can’t miss” first round WRs is less than 50%. although the Pats miss on a lot of picks it (lol, it’s not like the Giants don’t) it would be nice to move back and get multiple players. Not sure how Gettleman will handle that strategy.

I'm not so concerned about the coaching change to be honest. As far as pre-season goes, I'm going to be optimistic and think that due to vaccine distribution, they will have a fairly normal training camp, after most or all of the rest of pre-season done remotely.

Agreed. Would love to land one of the Big4 then circle back in Rd3 or Rd4 to pick up a 2nd WR or TE. If the Big4 are all gone and we don't shock the world by trading back with a QB needy team, I believe we end up selecting the best OT available. I don't see us going defense at this point. Parsons seems to be a fantastic fit as a player, but I think we'd ultimately pass on him due to the allegations. I also can't see us selecting a CB at #11. I may change my tune, but I don't see the value in either player projected to go that high. I think it ends up coming down the Big4 or OL......or an out of left field trade back. Playmaker or Slater I can see that also Slater who I haven't seen much of but they see he is as technically sound as any tackle in the last 5 years would work if the playmakers are gone.

Do you think Love can handle CB2 he was a runner up fro the Thorpe award and when they put him out there at times he looks solid. He isn't the fastest but he is cerebral in the mold of Logan Ryan. This will be his 3rd year he looked confident and comfortable by the end of last year.

Versatility is critical, especially as the seaason goes on. There are a few OT's who may be available in Rd2 if we do end up with one of the offensive weapons. I like what I've read on the a kid from MIchigan (Mayfield), Notre Dame (Eichenberg), and Oklahoma St. (Jenkins). I'm beginning to realize this draft has plenty of depth at many positions of need. At least on offense.

seems a bit farther away then some fans believe they are. the fan base will always vary on the perception of the team. Raanan specifically was pointing to the FO/ownership and that's what I was getting at. I am not a big Ranaan guy only because some of the past moves he has dogged actually were really smart football moves like letting Collins walk for 14 mill a year, trading OV for more then a sack of balls, Trading Snacks when they did he was at the end of the road. ESPN writers feed the surfus feeders they don't seem to focus on the why's and the future ramifications. This was a really tough situation at the end of 2017 just from an assets stand point, cap players signed, like having 2 OLs signed and 1 linebacker and little cap to fix it, add in they had only 6 picks but added one by trading for Ogletree who was not great but was better then anything we had around here in the last 4 or 5 years, these are the real problems that instead of filling a one page article with Bull shit he could have filled a page about the challenges of fixing team that had 0 depth little young talent and was ancient by NFL standards with little cap and bad contracts to deal with. Instead he and most took the easy way out instead of talking about the real problems this franchise faced.

I think we're less likely to trade back in Rd1 this year than we were in recent years, but perhaps the Patriots way did rub off on JJ a bit. The only way I see it happening is if one of the top QB's falls. For this to happen, there would need to be a run on at least three of the four Big4, at least two OL, and at least two CB. Add in 2-3 QB's, and suddenly 2-3 of the top 5 QB's are available at #11 for the taking. Come draft night, I'm going to be on the edge of my seat for every pick after the Jags. It's going to be fun.

Quite amazing some fans ignore what the owner says b/c 6 wins almost won a division. It is hilarious that people actually think that real progress is made in a team that finished 6-10. Are our standards really that low? The only progress that was made is that we FINALLY beat Dallas and Philadelphia. all 6-10 means to me is that we are still a crappy football team with along way to go to be able to play with the big boys..

But Lewis seems to hold his own when on the field. As I said in the Holmes thread. Holmes and Love need to step it up or their snap count is going to suffer.

Yep, but we are starting over yet again with a new O-line coach, coming from the college system. The line seems physically stronger, but the mental things they have to do as a unit are again concerning to start another season. I suppose we will have a more normal preseason, though. I'm not so concerned about the coaching change to be honest. As far as pre-season goes, I'm going to be optimistic and think that due to vaccine distribution, they will have a fairly normal training camp, after most or all of the rest of pre-season done remotely. Yeah, but the coaching change means starting at square one - transitioning to the NFL and opposing defensive schemes and personnel, getting familiar with your own players, their techniques, strengths and weaknesses, which aspects of blocking schemes they understand individually and as a group... Oh, and well does the complimentary in line blocking from the TEs and RBs assist your line? Yikes. It's actually a tremendous amount of work, compared to an established coach who's already familiar with all this, and has some form of complimentary in line blocking in place.

We all know we need weapons on offense. We also saw what happened last night when Tampa's defense shut down one of the most prolific offenses in recent memory. At this point, if the Giants have a strength it'd be the defense. Particularly the DL. Knowing this, would anyone be upset if we doubled down on our strength and focused on the defense early and often this off-season? For instance, what if we....... - Re-sign Williams and Tomlinson
- Acquire a player like Lavonte David, or someone similar, in FA
- Draft Micah Parsons from PSU in Rd1
On paper, our Front 7 would be sick. We'd have loads of talent across the board, and we'd have a nice blend of youth and experience.
This may seem a bit excessive since we have such a need for offensive weapons, but from what I understand this year's draft class is just as stacked at WR as last year's. If true, maybe we can hold off until Rd.2 to get our next WR1.
At first I didn't like the idea of it, and I still have to do my research to see if I like anyone at WR and TE after Rd1, but the more I think about it the more I think I like the idea of trying to make our defense elite.
I've been off the board for the last 10-11 days so I'm just reading a lot of posts for the first time. I know I'm late to the party discussing some of these subjects. Please bear with me if I'm repeating some of the members that have already posted. We could go either way WR or defense in the draft and go after the other in the 2nd rd. Either way I have no problem either would be a correct way to go to strengthen the team. Depending on cap room would depend how much we can help ourselves in FA. But we need to improve both our defense with a injection of even 1-2 players we can be elite. Tomlinson and Williams are my first 2 targets. Williams is a must for me if we sign just one player let it be him. I hope Fackrell comes back for say 2 years cause of his flexibility at LBer. If we go Parsons he might be stronger at ILB. Fackrell and Carter could be good enough at OLB. If Parsons or Rousseau in the draft or a FA say Leonard Floyd play OLB Fackrell could play ILB next to Martinez at a higher level than anybody else on the team I can think of. I think most of us would like to see an upgrade at edge pass rusher and CB. If we could get another ILB upgrade as well fine but the other 2 positions and keeping our DL intact should/could make us elite. And of course an improvement at WR is so obvious. If we could get a 2nd WR between FA and the draft would be ideal. To me all this is doable and will immediately make us a serious contender.

If anything, his aggregate pressures didn't change from past years, he just turned more of them to sacks. Question is why? For me, it was the scheme + coverage. Im starting to think that coverage matters more than Edge in this day and age. I mean, BB in New England has largely built his defence on coverage, not edge pressure. I get Jeff Okudah. Doesn't look great but then again, I think he'll be a lot better in his second season.

This was the first year in many the defense applied pressure. The last time was the 11-5 season. Baker was terrible for the Giants during is rookie year. Again, i’ll point to Detroit. Meanwhile, the Giants covered pretty well and there were no high picks playing CB.

He seems to offer a lot of versatility. I'd prefer more of a prototypical RT if we go OL in Rd1, but I won't be mad with any OL who can play any of the 5 positions. I just read a stat on PFF DJ had a 90+ QB rating when throwing from a clean pocket no matter what if they need to at least keep binging in late round guys and undrafted guys look at gates he is turning into a fine center that can help everywhere.

I don't know, Is there another player on defense to pick at #11 over a WR ? Surtain and Farley are already projected to be drafted. I have no problem going Pitts or Smith. But to me Waddle is another slot receiver and if we are still counting Tate we already have 3 slot receivers starting. Tate, Slayton and Shep. Do we really need another slot guy with a bad ankle ? Waddle is not a slot. He's a Z. Not saying he couldn't function as an X or in the slot. IMO he's a Z Oh I thought Bama used him in the slot and out of the backfield. I thought he was a small guy. Didn't know he played wide out. But even with that said is he another small wide out ? Does he make 6' ? Maybe I don't appreciate him so much because of the injury. He was out the 4-5 times I watched Bama. And he was a token appearance in the Championship game, still hurt I guess.
