We all know we need weapons on offense. We also saw what happened last night when Tampa's defense shut down one of the most prolific offenses in recent memory. At this point, if the Giants have a strength it'd be the defense. Particularly the DL. Knowing this, would anyone be upset if we doubled down on our strength and focused on the defense early and often this off-season? For instance, what if we....... - Re-sign Williams and Tomlinson
- Acquire a player like Lavonte David, or someone similar, in FA
- Draft Micah Parsons from PSU in Rd1
On paper, our Front 7 would be sick. We'd have loads of talent across the board, and we'd have a nice blend of youth and experience.
This may seem a bit excessive since we have such a need for offensive weapons, but from what I understand this year's draft class is just as stacked at WR as last year's. If true, maybe we can hold off until Rd.2 to get our next WR1.
At first I didn't like the idea of it, and I still have to do my research to see if I like anyone at WR and TE after Rd1, but the more I think about it the more I think I like the idea of trying to make our defense elite.

Get your one addition on defense in free agency
Go heavy offense in the draft Playmakers that force opposing defenses to have to defend the entire field and some O line depth early and often in a BPA style..
I knew this would happen with this segment of the fan base
Newsflash, you need a well balanced team on both sides of the ball that can win multiple styles of games, have the required firepower to win shoot outs, come back from large defects, the line and players to run it into empty boxes (getting Barkley back helps.)
The Bucs have a very versatile and explosive offense themselves that could win multiple ways ..
We need this to help.our defense

they need help on both sides of the ball but maybe you didn't hear that Tampa has a very good offense that scored 30 points per game towards the end of the season. Scored 31 last night and could have scored more
The Giants NEED offense and they need it now. This draft and FA has to more focused on the O then D like 60/40

A nice edge pass rusher would do nicely, in addition to a stud WR. But like the others have stated we need more O firepower

We still need a legit edge pass rusher and a CB. Nothing's changed that.

I would be good if we went all D as long as we get a legit #1 WR

IMO - Williams and Tomlinson are must resigns - pass on a 31 yr old David. He did well b/c of the surrounding cast IMO and the Giants already have some like him - Parsons has had some negative personality issues i have read and i’m concerned about any player who opted out and didn’t play this past season i think the Giants go WR although some mocks are predicting TE Pitts. I think the Giants can find another TE later but need that #1WR. If they go pass rusher the kid has to make an impact quickly imo.

I didn't even read the thread but wanted to respond with my gut answer which is the Giants need to go all in on offensive weapons....lol...having done that many drafts before this actually the time to get some legit WR and TE...after that a real edge rusher....maybe another legit CB....

If they get Robinson or Golladay in FA and the best prospects at WR are gone by the time we pick and Parsons is there. I won't lose sleep over it. That said - I'd expect them to go after another WR rd 2 or 3 then.
Look they're going to have to do work in both FA and the draft. Weapons for jones is a glaring need, however, so is CB, so is LB, so is the edge - we have no clue what carter or xim can be since they weren't on the field last year, and we still could use help on the oline. Tons of work to be done, I don't care how they get it done, so long as it gets done.
If they do this right this offseason - they're a playoff team.

Most that do have red flags coming into the NFL do just fine.. You can't draft chior boys in this league and expect to win.. Shit happens you take chances . Tons of teams have done that with tons of success.

He wasn't seen as the right fit with Bettcher. Even though we've seen Bowles has standing up and in coverage at times.

If we pass on him, that will say a lot about his “issues” since we have a coach who actually coached him during his last college season where he actually played, and should have a pretty good handle on what he’s all about

I don’t mind taking a chance on character, but will the Giants decision on Parsons be affected by what happened with Baker? It might.

Losing 3-0 every game is still losing. I really think there is a segment of this fan base that would rather go 6-10 losing multiple games like this than go 10-6 every year, make the playoffs and win a bunch of 48-38 games

Completely different situation...one of his coaches is currently employed by us. I agree, though, that the team might be gun-shy on character concerns after Baker.

This is 100% the draft as far as offensive talent goes lines up for them in the upper rounds now if the big 4 counting Pitts are gone I could see them going OL or Corner at 11 then WR in the 2nd.

This is true. There are many paths to winning. BTW, people look at TB and say defense wins championships and in that moment it is like Brady isn't even there.

99% of teams with 3rd year QBs need at least a decent OL and 2 or 3 really good weapons.
have to go offense significantly more than defense this off season.

The best player at 11 and I don't care what side of the ball they play since both sides need upgrading even if it's another olineman..
After that a guard and RT along with a WR would be nice..

The Bucs nearly had a top 5 offense this year and they only had Brown part of the season. They had one of the most stacked offenses in recent memory. I'd like if the front office primarily focuses on improving the offense. Teams balanced on both sides of the ball tend to be more consistent...our offense was almost ranked last.

The bottom line is that we can't come close to winning with this offense. I haven't read anyone say we can . What I have read is multiple posters say they saw improvement . All know we need a legit #1 WR , a TE who can actually catch a ball and we need to keep upgrading the O line . Many feel young QB finally having a second year in the same Offense will be a big plus. The Defense has made strides keep what you have and add to it. So you agree with me that we should not "heavily focus on defense"?

not one of our skill players would even sniff the field if they were wearing bucs uniforms this year.
you gotta at least try to give Jones a fighting chance. what would the macro strategy be if you only added a 3rd round wr? field position and gano fgs?
