You used the word “entirely”, which means that Gettleman bears no responsibility at all... not that he didn’t have as much responsibility That's fair, he deserves some blame too. But applying the overall record from his tenure on the GM is just completely out of context. Shurmur and Judge bear the burden for their records. Both coaches lost games they should’ve won. When teams make critical penalties or call the wrong defenses in the final minutes it's not the GM's fault. The organization recognized this, and it clearly looks like the right decision over the last 2 years. Mike sometimes unfortunately shit rolls uphill and in the NFL its a fact...

Nobody cares about Pat Shurmer's record anymore... It's Joe Judge's QB, it's his offensive line, receivers and defense. There’s no more crying "Dave" if they can't figure out how to put the ball in the end zone with Golloday, Toney, Barkley, Rudolph etc. We all love Joe so far, but you'll see how fast that love affair ends after a 1-3 start. I think this team has the talent to win enough games to play respectable football and be competitive on Sunday and thats really all I ask, playoffs and SBs are just ice cream on the cake... we all want the ice cream eventually....

So....what did he break? What did he make worse? Let's see.....blowing the biggest piece of draft capital in team history on a RB.
Reaching for a QB in 2019.
Keeping Eli one more season costing us $20MM in cap space. Trading picks for a washed up MLB from the Rams. Blowing $3mm on a washed up RB from Carolina. Trading up into RD 1 for a questionable CB in 2019...who's no longer on the team.
Making Nate Solder the highest paid O lineman in NFL history, wasting precious cap space.
Pounding his chest about "hog mollies" then drafting one O lineman in his first two drafts.
Overall doing a poor job of building a team in today's NFL. Living in the past and making decisions accordingly. Going 15-33 in 3 seasons with high picks every season.
This is a dreadful record by any standard.
i like DG but what you listed is extremely depressing to read...

I agree, I don't think that the backup Guard position is going to decide the season.

I would like to add something if I may . The Giants as of right now have 10 picks for next years draft .A draft I might add far more rich with talent according to the talking heads. Hopefully, we won't have to waste them trading up for a QB that is true but if we have to we will have the round 1 power to do it.....

This waiting for next year needs to stop at some point but I see it's currently still alive and well.. Not the point. There are a few who seem to point out the negative of DG all the time I just wanted to point out a positive that while doing a good job in this years draft all so put the Giants in a good position for next years draft. very well said...

Safe to say there is now much more expectation for a winning season especially the fans this season A big part of it hinges on how well DJ performs with all the improvements Garrett needs to be creative and smart with the play calling now with this upgraded talent, it really should be exciting to watch To me, the OL still is a question mark do the youngsters step up? Does Solder become more productive again? Fulton & Harrisson add vet experience and some depth both 29 years old. It looks like Hernandez is working hard this offseason. Still not sure it is enough? The HC and GM think so. IMO D.Jones has become the elephant in the room for this coming season because IMO he now seems to have enough tools to get the job done...

All young QBs need a good OL and tools to get the job done. Beyond that they have to limit their own mistakes. The biggest part of Jones' success will come from limiting his own struggles.

Even with not drafting any OL. The coaches have decided they are good enough, so if we are trusting them to run the team then DJ must step up. The difference is, I believe he will. I have always believed in DJ even before we drafted him. He was my pick. There were many factors to make me believe last year was the anomoly. That's over now. Time to put up or shut up.

I am rooting for DJ to be successful this season, then in '22 those two first round picks really become versatile especially for the recruitment phase. This would be a real "boon" for the Giants. No doubt though, it is a make or break season for DJ plus we'll see how he handles the pressure as well.

Mara loves Getty as a GM. All anyone needs to know.

I think Getty is retiring after this season, period. I was thinking this too. I think it'll depend how his health is and how close we are to the SB. If we win the SB he rides off into the sunset. If we make a deep playoff run I think he will give it another year.

After this last draft, Gettleman will definitely be offered and extension, if he wants one. He is approaching 70, but I think he would sign on for 2 more years, and I am sure Mara will want him to stay. Gettleman started under George Young and the Mara’s definitely will want that legacy to stay around. he will be offered nothing until they see what Jones will be.

I get that feeling too. But he’s earned the right to leave when and how he wants. He's handed the coaches all the talent you could ask for. If they can't win with this roster they need to find a new line of work. How? By having the worst record by any GM in our history?
the answer to this depends on which camp you're in, those who like Gettleman or those who just want him gone
