“Unless he can figure out a way to take care of the football we’re never going to know how good he is because he’s going to be out of here, he’s gonna be on the next thing smokin’ as soon as possible if he can’t control - I mean, some of the turnovers are people just ripping the ball out of his hands...that’s just unacceptable,” Toomer said.
Agreed. I’ve been banging that drum since his rookie year. You could be an accurate passer with the best deep ball in the league. (Allegedly) However, if you’re averaging a turnover a game. That means you’re ending drives and putting your defense in unfavorable situations.
In 27 games, Jones has a ridiculous 52 turnovers. That’s 52 times he has put the ball in harms way. I don’t want to hear about tipped passes, or Evan Engram. Those numbers better come down, or he’ll be former NY Giants quarterback..

He had what, 5 in his last 7 games?
Nine Mike.. Nine turnovers.. He’s giving footballs away like it’s a yard sale.
I got a whole lot of vengeance deep inside of every sentence.

I recall a similar narrative to another giants QB before the 2011 season.
Nine Mike.. Nine turnovers.. He’s giving footballs away like it’s a yard sale.
to be fair, the whole team was dog **** in a large portion of those games. Don’t understand how you guys expect him to be putting up numbers and protecting the ball when we were getting blown out in that stretch...would it make u feel better if he had 0 turnovers and we still got destroyed by Cleveland Arizona and Baltimore ? Cuz that’s what would’ve happened still. Bottom line is we need wins and that’s a team effort...
Not to mention you calling engrams play an excuse, because he 100% is solely responsible for at least 5-6 of Jones’ turnovers last year
Two fumbles against Washington, three against Arizona, and one against Dallas. 2+3+1= 6 fumbles. Two interceptions against Tampa. And one against Dallas. 2+1=3 When you break it all down. 6+3= 9 turnovers.. You’re right.. It’s not debatable.
Once the football is out of his hands, it’s considered a fumble. Regardless if he or a teammate recovered it. You’re splitting hairs with the fumble recovery argument. Point is, it’s an issue that needs to be corrected.

You’re right. The whole offense was dog shit, that includes our quarterback who seems to get the preferential treatment. Eli got that too, but he at least won us a few super bowls. When Jones puts a trophy in the case, he’ll get the same treatment. Until then, he’s much part of the problem as the rest of the guys.
You have a short memory. We were getting blown out in part to he couldn’t score touchdowns, and our offense was that of a junior varsity team. Seven games he didn’t score a touchdown, that’s not a misprint. In 2020, the year of the quarterback. Ours got a measly 11 on the year. Unacceptable no matter who you’re playing with. We have beaten to death the blame game on Engram. We got fans blaming him for losing multiple games, that’s how bad it has gotten. No accountability on our quarterback. He’s forever blameless. Even his turnovers have now become someone’s fault..

I agree with all the critiques you have noted. All valid. However, how is Jones getting preferential treatment and how is being cast as blameless? By a few fans maybe but certainly not going unnoticed by his coaches. I see plenty of Jones bashing by fans, media talking heads etc.

You are right and wrong. Must be a fumble lost to be a turnover and Jones must CONTINUE to improve on his ball security. Teams will keep going for the ball until he can show them otherwise.

I'm not sure you're understanding the definition of a "turnover"... A recovered fumble is not a turnover. Jones had 5 turnovers in the last 7 games.

You see plenty of bashing of Jones by fans? Show me, I want to buy them a beer. They have the courage to call a duck a duck. Instead, of putting lipstick on a pig. We all want him to succeed, however. Most fans put blinders on when it comes to his faults.

I'm not sure you're understanding the definition of a "turnover"... A recovered fumble is not a turnover. Jones had 5 turnovers in the last 7 games. "Turnover". Very important distinction.
I understand it very well. You’re just factoring in fumble recoveries to fumbles lost. Point is, who the hell cares. He has put the ball on the ground more than the NY Knicks.

No, I clearly said Jones had 5 turnovers, you came back saying he had 9.
My only point was that he did show improvement in that area.

Right.. 6 fumbles and 3 interceptions. When you factor in fumble recoveries it’s 5 turnovers. You’re stuck on the word “turnovers” when you’re missing the bigger picture. Like my original post stated. He has put the ball in harms way 52 times in 27 games.

the big difference between a turnover and a fumble is who recovers it, but I understand the concern about Jones losing the ball no matter who recovers it

This very board has several members that call a duck a duck. It doesnt take courage it just takes common sense. As a matter of fact most on this board recognize the main flaws in his game. Some down play it for sure but only a handful or so.

exactly.....if you lose the ball its a fumble either way.

He has 3 main problems that I see that need correcting. They are correctable Other than that he has the tools to be a good QB. There is no doubt in my mind he has the head to play the position . He has 90% of it covered.
In order of importance.
His internal clock His ball protection His propensity to stare down his receiver.
A vast journey lies within the span of an instant.

yep....
they are well documented and on display in many games.
I feel he gets his shit together and gets it done.

if he mostly figures those out, he has the skills to be a top tier QB. Once he gets over that hump, they can update the offense to really take advantage of his athleticism.

No doubt..........big hurdles but he needs to get over them to be successful in this league.

As long as he cuts down on the fumbles, he definitely is. Jones throws a ball that receivers love....accurate and easy to catch. As a former WR, I can tell you the receivers love him....and he rarely throws them into a big hit.
As a 30+ year fan, all I want from D-Dimes is to improve by 5-10% over last year (this includes all facets). This may not sound like much, but to me it is a big start to a progressive season and a sign of maturity for future starts (and starting seasons). If he produces more than this, I will be much happier and results will follow : )

It is clear to me that he was thinking too much and pressing last season. Some of his best throws made in season 1 were instinctive. I mean, he did get the ridiculous nickname "danny dimes" for a reason. He does possess the admirable trait of being the same guy whether he plays great or gives a game away like Tampa Bay last season. I would gladly take a few turnovers if he doesn't play TOO careful after being tagged a turnover machine. I really want to see some clutch out of him--big plays late in games. Had Engram made that catch in the Philly game perhaps his confidence would have soared. I am in the group that believes he will look the part this season, and Garrett plays a role in that responsibility as well. Its not up for debate however, that this is his make or break season. We will learn what he is made of as he will be under immense pressure but also have a top notch set of weapons at his disposal.
