There were whispers of someone's deal being possibly restructured. It looks like he was the one asked, refused to do it, and was effectively released.

Wondering if his play had noticeably slipped in practice.... I didn't really notice him in the games

Hmmm, even if he soon realizes his market value is lower he likely won't take that deal from the Giants opting instead to take the same deal from some other team. I never understood that, I guess it's a pride thing.

It shows you how we’re all on the outside looking in.
Slayton, restructure LW, saw someone mention Barkley.
We’re all just guessing 100% of the time.

I do not think I have said anything but something bothered me in our season opener vs Denver. I saw Blake basically walking towards a play. That shocked me because I always thought of Blake as a hustle guy. That told me that our team was not ready to play vs Denver.

Saves almost $3.7MM in cap space. That was quick.

Didnt see that one coming. I guess the writing was on the wall for him though. Pay cut this year, wasnt the defensive caller, wasnt voted captain and was surprised to see him playing decent amount of snaps in that last PS game.

Did we clear $3.6 mill in cap room?

Never heard his name mentioned in any practice report. So before the freakout happens, he was scheduled to make $3M this year, he sure as hell didn't show he was worth that this summer.

Joe Schoen is not messing around. I can’t say I saw that coming.
This makes the Beavers injury sting that much more

doesn't suprise me when a player misses most of a previous season. if paid more you need to blowout the competition to remain. Even to slightly better isn't enough considering the cost.

Wow...
We are really going to struggle on defense this year.
Who plays #1 MLB? Tae Crowder?

I think a couple other guys brought up earlier that he doesn't necessarily fit Wink's system which requires a lot more open field coverage rather than downfield thumping. Typically also takes a full season for guys to fully come back from these types of injuries. Still definitely surprising.

Not to get all conspiracy guy but didnt they say Blake was not there yesterday for personal reasons? I think he was back today. Was that about the contract?

31 NFL message boards: Giants just released Blake Martinez. Worth a look?
Universal response: Dude, he wasn’t good enough for the Giants.

Few players play with more heart and motor than Blake. Bit It's a new era. Thanks for all your hard work for my favourite football team. Good luck to you and your family.

After the first few seconds of hearing this I was surprised, but really, not that surprised when I actually think about it. I liked blake, but he's not a fit defensively, he's getting up there in age, and I'm assuming this helped clear up some much needed cap? Something had to give, they'll probably ask to restructure someone else, but that just pushes the problem to next year. I will never not hate DG.

Wow... We are really going to struggle on defense this year. Who plays #1 MLB? Tae Crowder? wasn't that the case last year? I honestly don't remember complaining that much about the middle of the field on Defense last year. He can probably do better in the passing game and pass rushing game than blake anyway. I could be totally wrong and prob am. Either way, tae has played well, but should not be a guy we rely on. CB, and LB might be a big issue, no scratch that, will be a big issue on defense this season.
