I'm sitting here wondering if I should tell the truth here for a change. I've turned 30 every December for a while now and I don't celebrate my birthday, so it is kinda true, right? Ah....what the hell. I'm 42. And if you tell anyone, I'll deny it. If it means anything you got the piss and vinegar of an 83 year old who literally doesn’t give a **** anymore. Because I don't. Seen too much of life in my time to give a ****.

Still go out dancing on Fridays? Sometimes, but not this time of year. I didn't know dancing was a seasonal event.

I'm so glad that I left my tax job in Orange County and am part of the Tax Controversy and Procedure Team at the Accounting Firm I work at now. It is a way less stressful job, even during Tax time. Maybe you should make the switch. Are you an EA?

They think I have all the knowledge and do all the work of one, I should have the benefits too. I'm not interested. Normally it isn't so bad, but due to an unexpected departure and a severe illness right before the season, I am presently doing the job of 3 people. Which is a bit rough at times. One of them was an EA and the other a CPA(by initials, not by work), but I was the only one who knew how to properly prep Corps and Partnerships. So now I have absorbed all of the personal taxes as well as being responsible for every business that rolls out of here. Mind you, the CPAs get everything after I prepare them. I'm not the last hands on these things, but they rarely have much to do when I am done. Turns out I am quite good at this. Not bad for a former waitress/bartender.

I grew to hate the accounting cycle in corporate america...Funny thing is that in SAP one of the few modules that I do not support is the finance one, I specialize more in manufacturing and quality. Go figure...

Not bad for a former waitress/bartender. my education is in accounting, I worked in costing for years before moving into IT as a business systems analyst. I grew to hate the accounting cycle in corporate america...Funny thing is that in SAP one of the few modules that I do not support is the finance one, I specialize more in manufacturing and quality. Go figure... I started out helping a couple with a small business a few hours a week keep track of their stuff. Then got a part time gig at an accounting firm in tax season just helping with whatever. Which turned into responding to notices, so I learned what not to do on tax returns. That firm also was a full payroll servicing firm. They needed help there so I became a payroll processor and PR tax filer all year, still part time. The boss there felt I had the aptitude for tax returns, so started me there. Mostly personals and some Corps. My current firm poached me from there because they needed someone who had significant payroll tax knowledge. The increase was enough that I didn't need to bartend or wait tables anymore. So those became part time and this full time. So I moved, they learned that I knew how to do returns despite a lack of initials after my name. etc...etc.. Now I basically do all the work for the one semi-retired partner, who basically looks it over when I'm done, in addition to similar work for the other two partners. Anything complex now comes to my desk before anyone else. So I learned it all by doing, and I quite enjoy it and the tax season pace really helps me stay focused, which to me is a blessing most won't understand.
