What I saw that I liked:
Saquon on that first run. My goodness. That right there is why he was a top pick. Great RB depth too with Gallman and Simmons. They looked good. I thought Solder and Hernandez did a good job. Flowers wasnt bad either. Run defense was stout. The DL stood their ground. Sterling Shepard looked good. Dixon is a good punter.
What I didnt like:
Halapia and Omameh. They looked over matched. Not good. Im shocked we didnt get a new center. Eli was Eli. Ill write it off to being game 1, but he didnt look comfy. No touch on the screen passes still. WR drops again. Too many of them. Davis Webb throwing the ball high a lot. He didnt look good there either. The defensive backs. Yikes. I think the preseason you can gauge depth, and the DB field lacks any of it. Ogletree getting burned by Njoku for the TD. Come on. Are we going to do this again? We need LBs who can cover TEs. Saquon runs besides the 1st run (when the OL even collapsed there). After that it was 4 runs for 4 yards. This is what I was worried about. If our OL isnt improved, a great RB wont change much. Lot of negative runs. Hope that Odell can make that impact to open it up.
Overall, Im not going to be too upset over preseason game 1 new coach new systems, but Im not really moving from my stance that this team still has a long way to go to be a good team and fight for the playoffs. They still looked like a 3-13 team. I hope to see the 1st unit improve week over week and not look like the past 2 years of barely moving the ball game after game, because even though preseason doesnt mean much, it shows something, especially as you go to game 2 and game 3.
And I pray we didnt make a mistake letting some of those QBs go in the draft.
Go Giants

Preseason is preseason.
But this team looks like it needs a lot more preseason games before it's ready to play a meaningful game.

Only one game but he looked impressive.

I really think a lot of fans forget this team was 3-13 last year. They were awful. It takes a few years to change that over most times, especially when you get a new offense and defense, new HC and a new GM.

We shouldn't overreact right, but Baker Mayfield played the type of game every fan wants to see.
On the other hand the Giants did not. It's just the way it's been for a very long time.

I’m gonna chalk up everything I saw tonight on it’ being the 1st preseason game, but I’d be lying if I said the db’s don’t have me worried.

New Defensive scheme, new offensive system and y’all expected magic in the first preseason game? Some of you are too much..really! This was all “get your feet wet”, basic play calling stuff. Pat Shurmur and Shula are gonna have more in the bag of tricks on Offense when the games start to count! I mean....some of you look at Barkley’s few minutes on the field and you think “a big run, then not much after that!” LMAO Climb off the ledge. Almost 50 yards on a few carries is already better than what we’ve watched too many seasons. The D was also very basic. Nothing to get in a twist about. The game still has to slow down for a lot of the new guys, they’re still getting accostomed to each other and the new systems are gonna present a learning curve for everyone! Think glass half full people.

The 2 things that looked really discouraging:
1 PASS DEFENSE(got lit up by a rookie in his first NFL game).
2 DAVIS WEBB during all the draft time, when many said "must take a QB", I was like "maybe Webb can take over after Eli someday". Sure didn't look it tonight.
Lauletta was pretty good.
Besides these 2 areas, everything seemed pretty good.
I think the O-line may finally be pretty good for us this year. This, on it's own, is a huge step in the right direction.(starting Jones at C might help even more)
They need to keep working hard to improve. Then we can enjoy some postseason action.
Go Giants !

Gallman, Martin & Simmons all looked promising As far as the basic play calling stuff. We have heard that song and dance the last 2/3 pre seadons. "Oh it's oy a Vanilla offense right now. Wait till the regular season. And the regular season they looked worse I agree with others on why can't the Giants look good in pre season like many other teams Was disheartening watching Taylor and Mayfield dismantle our Lbs and secondary Punter looked good. He might get a lot of work this year Kicker looked good on the one FG

I thought there were some good things, and certainly some bad. The secondary play stood out to me the most as needing lots of work, from the starters on down.

It's pre season Football. I am worried about our country , I am worried about my family , I am worried about my health , I am worried about many things. The NY Giants playing like crap in a pres season game.....no I am not worried. Relax people just stop the madness! Pretty good.

Overall....it was a bad performance by our team. it was disappointing. Does that mean we aren't any good? Who knows, it's preseason. But it would have been nice to see some better football from the guys who were in blue last night.

I'll worry when we look like this with Beckham playing. You can't understate the difference he makes to this offense and what he's going to open up for Saquan.

This is a Giants football forum so, yeah, we are going to talk about the Giants and their concerning showings.

Yet that doesn't mean I can't put this in to perspective and that is ...it's pre season . People need to chill. The one thread about the team being garbage, Ill agree with you on that. People voicing valid concerns though, they have every right after the past 5 years this team has been playing football. They need to prove they are good before we can just throw all the preseason away because its preseason. Im sure getting Odell back should help the offense, but we arent expecting anyone coming back to the secondary to help out.

I did not see anything that surprised me. The first and second unit O-lines looked a lot better . It shows we may have depth. The offense moved the ball . Something we could not do this time last year. It looks like we have a running game the O-line was able to get a push and the RBs took advantage of it.
Our Defense is in an entirely new system . A completely different way of doing their jobs. It will take some time to workout the kinks. This may continue for a few weeks into the season . They will get it down. One thing I did notice they could not run against our front. A big improvement from last year. I was hard on Goodson this past offseason . He is proving me wrong.

For a team that won 3 games last year, every pre-season game is Important. And from what I saw last night, it's going to be a lonnnnnnnnnnnng season. 8-8 will be a reach. Looked like a bunch of guys thrown out on the field that just met for the first time. Hopefully things get better. Better start playing that first team if we have one. What are we saving them for? This is not a contending team. Sorry, just going by what I saw. BTW- We played an 0-16 team and made them look good!
