It's because he is owed approx $8M of guaranteed money. If you cut him before 6/1 you eat all of that $8M against the 2022 cap. If you cut him after 6/1 you prorate that $8M over the course of the next two season's caps. So you'd save more in 2022 but also carry dead cap in 2023. But in the end you're still eating a total of $8M in dead cap. It's probably more palatable in pieces. I think they are going to ask Shep to make a deal around 2-4 mill if possible.

My logic is precedent. Eric fisher, same injury, later in the season, due 18mill, didn't get shit. Shep's not on IR anymore, has no more guaranteed money on his contract and the timetable of his injury would likely have him cleared for the start of the season. So he can either agree to get cut now and sign somewhere else with more guaranteed money than 0, or wait until he is cleared from injury in late summer, get released then and have to find a team once everyone has already signed free agents and drafted. Precedent??????????. Did you even read the injury protection clause in the CBA? Apparently not or you would not have written all of this false information. Eric fisher literally tore his Achilles in January of 2021 and was released in March of 2021. Dont know what else to tell ya.

I think Solder is walking away with a big smile on his face... Are we unique or does every team sign a few aging players who show up, collect their pay and basically contribute nothing? it seems to be happening a lot around the league but maybe not on the scale of Solder and the Giants...

I think in the end he still gets his Guaranteed cash so pay cuts aren't as bad as we think.

So it’s not really being asked it’s more like; “We are going to cut you. Unless, you are willing to play for vet minimum”

Love Shep as a player. He gives his all, an extremely willing blocker, and seems like an overall great teammate. It’s truly a shame he’s had all of the injury issues. Interesting to see them offer a pay cut rather than cutting him. Have to imagine it’s a straight up offer and not a restructure based off of what Schoen alluded to about not wanting to restructure deals. Wouldn’t be surprised if other value cut or trade candidates like Martinez and Bradberry are asked for straight up pay cuts as well before making final decisions on them

I like this. Likely means he's on track to return in time.

Just cut him. I can't recall a single big play he has made in his entire career. Add in the injuries and it's a no brainer.

So it’s not really being asked it’s more like; “We are going to cut you. Unless, you are willing to play for vet minimum” Yeah, that's what I'm getting from this as well. Which if you're Shep, vet min or close to that (maybe with an incentive laden contract) is all he'd get on the FA market coming off a torn achillies. So if you're him, why not play for that close to vet min, and renegotiate with some performance incentives if he does somehow come back from the injury? Seems like a win for him considering his unfortunate situation. And really no risk to the Giants. If somehow he comes back, and stays healthy, they have a upper echelon slot receiver, that's decent on the outside and runs great routes for around the vet minimum.

Normal ordinary everyday fans don’t know how that shit works man. Take me for example….you think I got time to sit down and figure the legality shit out? That’s what lawyers are for. Put them bums on the field and win…that’s the extent of MY attention span.

Precedent??????????. Did you even read the injury protection clause in the CBA? Apparently not or you would not have written all of this false information. Eric fisher literally tore his Achilles in January of 2021 and was released in March of 2021. Dont know what else to tell ya. www.latimes.com/sports/nfl/la-sp-0928-ask-farmer-20140928-story.htmlAsk Sam Farmer: How contracts work for injured players When a player gets hurt on the field or off the field, is his contract guaranteed? When so many players get hurt in training camp, are they then paid for the rest of the season? Cary Spier, Santa Fe, N.M. Farmer: An injured player gets paid for as long as he’s unable to play, no matter what his contract says. A team can’t release an injured player until he’s cleared. For most rookie contracts, players selected in the third round or later, there’s something called an “up-down,” which is two minimum salaries negotiated in the collective bargaining agreement. The “up” is the minimum active salary, which this season is $420,000, and the “down” ($303,000) is the minimum inactive salary. If a player is injured after eight games, he’s paid eight weeks “up” and nine weeks “down” (eight weeks, plus the bye). For most veterans, there is no “down.” It’s whatever he’s scheduled to earn. If a player gets hurt doing a football-related activity, he’s covered, no matter when it happens. So if he tears his anterior cruciate ligament in a May minicamp, he’s covered. There are also injury settlements, which must be agreed to within five days of a player being placed on injured reserve. Say a player suffers a sprained ankle in training camp and it’s a three-week injury. The team can pay him for those three weeks, then release him. That player is eligible to return to that team after the number of weeks the settlement was for (in this case, three), plus another six weeks. So he would be eligible to return in any capacity by Week 10. That six-week “tax” is put in place so teams can’t stash players by saying they’re injured. If a player suffers an injury doing something unrelated to football, he’s placed on the reserve/non-football injury list. It’s at the discretion of the team whether the player is paid.

If this is accurate it would be great for both parties Shep will get to rehab and knows the Giants won't rush him back and the Giants will get more cap then the 4.5 they would have, also not adding years or pushing money back a win win. Shep has always been a team player.

Yeah that definitely seems like a win win and decent chance he can be somewhat productive The 1st 2 games of the year (and last 2 of 2020)when the one thing the previous staff did right by allowing him to be an option route guy he had his best 4 game stretch as a pro Daboll's system is all about option routes Achilles is a 6 month or so injury so he can probably be back for camp
