Awesome! So they paid for 2 years of more mediocrity. Without Gettleman here the Giants saved $20 million per year. Good day You know me, Im anti-DG as anyone, but if DG was here still, he would have saved us over $20M in 2023. He would have picked up that 5th year option on DJ.

So let's say it's a $50MM bonus. That's 25MM per year pro rated against the cap. $10MM in salary the first year and $22 next year. So we eat $25MM if we dump him in 2025. I can live with that.
I have not seen the details but I assume its basically a 2.5 year deal stretched over 4 years. So the big cap hits come in 2025 and 2026 when our cap should be much higher. Now come 2025 with a higher cap this deal will look like a steal if DJ and the team do well. That works out for both DJ and the team. If DJ plays bad he is gone in 2025 but if he plays well the Giants have him at a respectable place contract wise. I meant $12.5 MM per year BTW. I think he has a chance to play for the entire contract. That would be in our interest. I DO think the team did a nice job to protect itself as well.
This deal is about as good as I could have hoped.

Carr got 4 years $150 but $100 mill in guarantees.
DJ got 4 years $160 but $82 mill in guarantees.
So the crowd screams $40 mill average for DJ and $37.5 mill average for Carr but people have to be smarter than that. Well maybe not lol.

Some of that money will be converted to a signing bonus that does not count against the cap....

It is a very fair deal for both sides from what I see.

Awesome! So they paid for 2 years of more mediocrity. Like yourself, SG is so far down the hate rabbit hole that it will take you guys a few years to escape it. 3 years sounds about right to me. Lolololol, yeah I hate Jones because he’s been mediocre to bad most of his career. Unlike you, I don’t get emotionally attached to a player and also unlike you I want whats best for the team and not the player. I know that’s a hard concept for you to grasp but you should try it some time and get over your love affair with DJ. I do appreciate you comparing me to SG though, unlike you he’s a stand up guy who pays his bets when he loses. Unfortunately the same can’t be said for you.

This is conjecture on my part but I believe Mara made this happen and Schoen didn't want to go so high. As Mara loves Jones and didn't want to start all over again with a new QB. Over the short and long term it's a fair contract, although I'd like to see the guarantee money amount.
Do believe anyone could have negotiated this deal on behalf of the Giants. Schoen's first big negotiated contract with Jones won't help Schoen's reputation will take a hit with other player's contracts going forward.
Schoen really out-foxed himself by wanting to further analyze Jones talen at mid-season and thus not offering Jones a long term contract at at that time. Such postponement to after the season concluded has resulted Giants pating far more than they otherwise would have back then.
I don't cut Schoen any slack for this being his first big contract negotiation as he was part of the negotiating team for many seasons as Buffalo's Asst. GM.
Do believe he drafted fairly well signing free-agents and in his first NFL draft. Hope he does so again in before this up-coming season commences.

Excuses don’t work anyway. The mediocre statistical performance that he had this year is what lead to Schoen/Daboll giving him this contract. So that statistical measuring stick fans use clearly isn’t the one the HC and GM use. The guys that agreed to this are the same guys that declined the 5th year option. They know what they’re getting themselves into. But I don’t agree that it’s elite money. Pre-225 million cap, $45-50 a year, all guaranteed is elite money. Lamar is holding out for that. J Hurts will get more than that. This is an upper third contract relative to a 225 mill cap. In two years it’ll be a middle of the pack deal. that is probable true. Let’s just hope the Giants don’t have to restructure him within 2 years for cap space. They probably have 5 guys that just work numbers for Kevin, that two year timeframe is interesting because (I think) that’s when Thomas’ 5th year ends and Dex is up next year. We have some heavy contracts coming. I don’t know how they keep Williams in all this. Glad it’s not my job to forecast this shit out.

Hopefully they can get out of it after two years. Mediocrity pays nice in the NFL. You gonna go kick your dog now? Nope, I’ll just watch the Giants continue to be mediocre with the rest of you. Happy for you, Gunner and Kerry though, now you guys can get back to your circle jerk without having to worry about what the Giants would do with Jones.

Wait, $40M per didn't get it done? What's the additional $35M in upside? Probably incentives. Win/win, if he hits them that means the Giants are playing very very well.

A very tall young boy grew up next door to my parents. He was a very gifted baseball player who went on to a 13 year career in MLB. If I said his name you wouldn't recognize him. Career earnings of over 40 million dollars. A very frugal guy he's saved every dime.Baseball is the way to go.
