I disagree that we're better by subtracting a player who averaged 4.3 catches per game in this offense. But I get why fans are mad at him now. I kind of am, but the guy can play. Meh, can't argue his skills but I am certain we are better off letting him go...I'm the type of fully committed guy vs partial when it comes to football and guys over age 30. Giants should be looking at tight ends in this weak class...although, please not Bowers at 6. I'm very high on Theo Johnson from happy valley. Oh I agree. I think we’d be looking at blocking tight ends regardless of Waller’s status

Waller will IMHO be released.... too late for that needed CB cash, but released ....

This just crossed my mind. I find it curious that this Waller retirement talk from his end has come about after they hired Bricillo. I wonder if those 2 did not get along during Waller's time with the Raiders. As a TE he would have had a lot of interaction with this O-line coach and would have to interact now again here with the Giants. Perhaps that was also a small part of the reason he was traded.

Problem I have is no word about retiring came from Waller until after the hire of Bricillo. That's my concern.

He's 31, which isn't too bad, Kelce is 34 and still top of his game. I think with a good QB he can still perform as a top 10 TE, he still has tread left imo. Too bad we don't have even an average QB Too bad his tread is good for about 2 spins before the tire pops. I never liked the "considering retirement" talk either. Either retire or don't retire...the fans don't need to hear the play by play of Waller's thought process. The team and fans deserve to know anyway...uncertainty doesn't do the team any good.

I have always subscribed to the belief that when someone considers retirement, they already are. In no other occupation is that more revealing than Pro Football. Not only is halfhearted effort and dedication unfair to the organization and fans, but to teammates and the player himself.

If a player retires is the team on the hook for the remaining years on the contract?

If a player retires is the team on the hook for the remaining years on the contract? They are on the hook for the remaining guaranteed money in the contract. If Waller retires they still owe him $15mil or something.

Waller is still owed $14.5 mil from Giants. It’s spaced out the next 3 years. $7 mil this year, $4 mil next, and $3mil the following. So, he’d collect all that and it would count against the Giants.

Insane that it would still count against the cap. That’s what “guaranteed” money means. The issue isn't him getting his guaranteed money. Especially after years vested. But that should be more towards Mara paying the bill and outside of the salary cap aspect for team construction.
