Apparently the report that he had decided to play was premature.
(Previous OP)
Hopefully this will be a good thing but based on this past season, I can't help thinking "don't do us any favors."

we should all encourage him to dedicate himself full-time to rapping and save us the salary cap space

I mean…again….Joe Schoen…he traded for a TE that had the highest TE salary. He didn’t help last year and thinking about retirement. Doesn’t look good.

The second-leading receiver on the team last year. If he plays only 12 games again he's still worth having.

Once you start thinking about retirement, your heart’s not in it anymore

I think that Waller has some good football in him still. Injuries and a poor QB room ruined his 2023 season.

It only took them most of the season to realize that this guy is a problem when given the opportunities and looks.

Can we just cut him? Another huge mistake from our newer GM. Everyone was so happy he turned Kadarious Toney into Waller. Truth be told, it was wash and much more costly to our cap. His injury history was right in front of Schoens face and he ignored it.
This was the 2nd worst move of JS short tenure here so far.

He’s a really expensive receiving target. Even their statistical performance is not a wash. Waller had more yds from DJ/TT/Devito in 12 games than Toney has from best QB in the league in 2 years. It’s fair criticism that he costs way too much. But he’s easily cut-able next year. He’s an expensive lottery ticket and a better option than Hyatt as of today.

He needs to be more involved, but Waller had more than twice as many catches in 5 fewer games. The two aren't even close in receiving ability.

Well, we know that Waller’s not making it through a season. If he stays, you have to pencil him in for 5 missed games minimum IMO There’s a minimum 70% chance our drafted QB is an eventual back up. I’d put his chance at playing more than 12 games at 20%. So it’s close for me statically.

I love that they went out and got a guy who they believed would help the offense. At least they went for it.

I want Waller back, not his fault the QB Play SUCKED most of last season and they did not use him consistently in the passing game
Should try to find a TE Middle to Later Rounds though, I remember really wanting us to draft Isaiah Likely now with the Ravens and he looks like a steal just like I thought he would be
So you can find TE's later in the Draft but also shouldn't give up on Bellinger either but it wouldn't hurt to add a Athletic TE to develop

But as I said, even for 12 games makes it worth to keep him. This team just doesn't have many weapons, and the extra cap space gave us a little flexibility. He doesn't make many big plays anymore, but he does produce and help move the chains.

That was one of those "matchup nightmare" signings that I speak of often......in uncomplimentary terms.
Particularly frustrating because every article after the signing spoke of his checkered injury history. So he comes here and .........

I love that they went out and got a guy who they believed would help the offense. At least they went for it. Acquiring Waller was not swinging for the fences. It was a risky move that predictably backfired IMO. I loved the fact they went out and got a potential playmaking receiver TE too, but then I weighed the injury history and when he was last productive. And his history with drug abuse. And his contract. Everytime we talked about Waller, it was IF he stays on the field. We should know better by now. I will say though, our QB play hurt any chance he had to make a splash when he was playing.

Waller is the better athlete, but he had twice as many catches because he had triple the amount of targets. Wallers stat line was not good and he did not look good. He was about as average as a TE could possible be with many bad plays.

we should all encourage him to dedicate himself full-time to rapping and save us the salary cap space I don't care if it's music, acting, or whatever. This is the NFL. If you're not a 100% committed to it, you shouldn't do it. Take Jim Brown as an example. The guy felt he had much more to offer than just playing football so that's what he focused on and that's to his credit.
Just my .02 as Jack of all trades type of person myself.
