We’re still debating if he’s a lazy asshole? There’s no debating that now. You can discredit the sources by the timing of it. But come on.. Story after story questioning his motivation. Teammates saying they never been around a troubled player like him before. “Dumb as dirt” being used not by us, but a person who works in the Giants building. The list can go on and on.
I’m at a point I don’t care if the charges stick or not. This kid is lost. You need a Orchestra to get him up and going to work. Vince Lombardi couldn’t motivate this slug to give his all on the field. Remember folks, we’re a extremely young and inexperienced team. We need players who buy into the system and want to be part of a growing process. We don’t need distractions of any sort, or a player who’s commitment is questioned. We need leaders of men, not jerkoffs who think they’re above the team..

DeAndre Baker’s red flags sparked Giants draft ‘battle’
DeAndre Baker wasn’t the only one gambling.
The Giants ignored red flags uncovered in scouting Baker and placed a bet on talent by selecting the cornerback in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft despite an organizational split on whether he was worth the risk.
“There was a battle in our building on whether we were going to take DeAndre or not,”
a source privy to the Giants’ draft thinking told The Post, “because the story was he had to have his a– kicked every day to work hard at Georgia — to even go to practice. We knew that and we still drafted him, and from Day 1 it was like taking a guy in the
first round that you had to teach nearly everything to.”
General manager Dave Gettleman’s unexplained break from prioritizing clean character could cost the Giants dearly on the depth chart — where they have no suitable replacement — and in the bank (Baker signed a four-year, $10.2 million contract).
Police in Florida issued an arrest warrant Thursday for Baker, 22, on four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault.
Baker and Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar — charged with four counts of armed robbery with a firearm — allegedly lost $70,000 gambling earlier in the week before they and a masked accomplice stole $12,000 in cash and an estimated $61,000 in watches at gunpoint during another party with more gambling, witnesses said in a police affidavit.
The allegations are a long and difficult-to-foresee leap from the whispers about motivation, work ethic, commitment and responsibility that followed Baker before the draft — especially after his disappointing NFL Scouting Combine performance, both in drills and disengaged interviews — and caused multiple teams to slide him down their boards.
The Giants traded second-, fourth- and fifth-round picks to move up seven spots from No. 37 to No. 30 to make Baker the first cornerback off the board. Others in the building preferred Temple’s Rock Ya-Sin (Colts), Central Michigan’s Sean Murphy-Bunting (Buccaneers) and LSU’s Greedy Williams (Browns).
Those three are among seven second-round cornerbacks who were drafted after Baker, though Gettleman had ruled out Williams, the source said. Given the depth at the position, it was the kind of bold trade where a team must be sure one option is clear-cut above the rest.
“This is a bad look for the Giants,” one NFL scout said when asked what the Giants missed.
Baker, who allowed one touchdown pass in his final three years at Georgia, struggled handling the adversity of a poor start to his rookie season. He didn’t start Week 1, was torched in Week 2 and benched multiple times.
Baker routinely had difficulty staying awake in meetings and the previous Giants coaching staff took a “bad cop, bad cop” firm hand behind the scenes, the source said. The response was more tuning out instruction — Baker admitted he needed to spend more time in his playbook after a Week 10 loss to the Cowboys — than disrespect.
Baker did not participate in the Giants’ voluntary minicamp this week, according to The Athletic.
“You’d take him off his film,” a league source said. “But there were too many red flags. It felt like New York was a bad spot for him, anyway.”
Darryl Elmore, who coached Baker in track at Northwestern High School in Miami told The Post he was very surprised to hear of the allegations. Despite growing up in a neighborhood where violence is prevalent, Baker “wasn’t involved in any of that” and was the type of teenager a coach doesn’t worry about, Elmore said.
Some folks may have thought Baker had an issue with motivation. Others believed they could work with him. Similar "battles" happen over nearly every player, in every team's draft room, every year. As the article states, an apparent lack of motivation isn't a predecessor to armed robbery. Baker had no history of violence. Nobody could've predicted this would happen. Even the apparent NFL Scout who says this is a bad look for the Giants. A week ago folks were talking about Baker taking a big step in 2020, and becoming a key component to our seemingly revamped Secondary. A week ago, folks had overlooked Bakers struggles early on and pointed to his performance over the latter half of last season as a sign of what's to come. A week ago, nobody was complaining about us drafting Baker. This week, after Baker inexplicably performs armed robbery, DG is the idiot. You really can't make this up. Actually you just made most of this shit up.. Show me one fan who blames Getty for this player pulling out a gun and robbing people? There were a some fans not happy with Baker and a bunch willing to claim he has turned it around. Looks like the fans like you were wrong since he most likely won't get the chance to turn this around. As for Getty it's his stance of having high Character players on the team while going out and ignoring the reports of Baker's character issues to trade up and select him.. He gambled and didn't stay true to his words and now this mess is here.. That's on getty.

If something does happen and this thing goes a way then lets hope for a miracle that this wakes Baker up and he becomes a good player. If it doesn't go a way and this kid doesn't play again then he becomes a terrible decision by Getty and the worst 1st rounder in Giants history.. Ereck Flowers or Eli Apple take that prize

The story was questionable from the beginning. With this day an age of social media, instagram, twitter, facebook, etc. Wheres the cell phone video of the event. Did all of these partygoers freeze up at the time. You would figure that multiple NFL players were at the party, somebody would have posted something by now. So this big robbery happened, does anybody have a police report? What time did they respond? Im not talking about the warrant issuance either. The Police report and them pulling into the residence to look for the assailants that actual night. So when 2 socalled celebrity thugs rob innocent people of their posessions, the natural response would be to call 911 I have been robbed. What time did they show up? Why wasnt there a car chase looking for armed gunman in a Lambo, Mercedes, and Beamer racing away. Why wasnt the chopper scrambled. Where is the 911 call transcript? What about the media, im sure they would have have responded to the call. Anybody got that? Thats why in my original posts I asked who is at the party? Wheres the video? Maybe its there , maybe they looked and couldnt find these guys. Doesnt that seem weird, you would think units would be waiting at their house. If anybody calls about a guy with a gun in the neighborhood just robbed you and fled. What is the response? Probably about half the police force looking for gunmen in the city. That’s an interesting point.

Why do people keep forgetting that Flowers did play very good for stretches without allowing sacks for weeks at a time?

Deandre Baker’s attorney issues statement on robbery charges 247sports.com/college/georgia/Article/Deandre-Bakers-attorney-issues-statement-on-robbery-charges-147204745/“I want to thank (Miramar P.D.) for being professional in regards to surrendering and issues with the case,” the statement read. “We understand that the officers can only base warrants on what was told to them at the time. We have had affidavits from several witnesses that also dispute the allegations and exculpate our client. Our investigator has had them for some time. “We would have rather presented them to the court at the proper time, rather than in the media, but in this day and age, people rush to judgement. Where some seek publicity, we seek justice. I look forward to moving this case forward to proper conclusion, as we believe our client is innocent of any charges.”
I am still on the wait until all the evidence comes out to pass judgment fence.

There would be no reason to say this if he was a problem to motivate. “I think that’s a part to growing up,” Smart told the New York Post. “I’ll say this, there’s not many rookie corners that aren’t going to struggle in that league. It’s not like they’re giving out Rookie of the Year to corners real often. Because when you’re doing your job, you don’t get a lot of credit, and when you’re not doing your job, you’re a sieve. So it’s usually going to go to a pass rusher or a linebacker who can put great statistics up there.
“When you’re on the back end you’re the last line of defense so that’s what everybody sees. Those three corners who were picked [in the first round this year], they’ll probably be the same way. They’re going to be under the limelight a lot more. I know Deandre will get better and he’ll keep working at it.”
It is a complete contridiction from his HC at Georiga was "Quoted" to what Source stated. I an still not convinced he did what he is charged with. There are too may contradictory stories in short amount of time.

why wasn't this "news" out on draft day? If Baker was "so bad" how come Gettlemen wasn't flamed for it then? Are you really asking for an employee to come out in the media and trash their boss?? You should be smart enough to understand why it wasn't done at that time!! no...I am saying if it was "so known" that Baker had such blatant issues then why weren't the sports talking heads trashing the pick... Thats what I am saying

before a few days ago I had no idea about the zoom meetings and I didnt remember a big deal being made about Baker's attitude prior or post draft. of course the sleeping thing is totally unacceptable for a player. Baker didnt "shit the bed" last season either. Rough half absolutely and in that half a couple of out and out bad games. Then he came on pretty good. Did anybody really think it would progress like this? . Character concerns that were pointed out well prior to the draft. too such a point that pick was being questioned or trashed by the sports talking heads? Was it so blatant?? I certainly dont remember that but my memory sucks

I hate using the phrase “red flags” But as we have known, they were there prior to the draft. Right now instead of talking about optimism of a season, we’re discussing in detail a lazy player (because that can’t be disputed) if he committed a crime. I for one don’t care if he stays or goes. Wait, I rather him go. Team above players I say, and this numbskull has no business being part of this great franchise.

Smart’s comments gives an idea when he made these comments as they are in defense of his former player so they must have come in season or after it. Perhaps we need to give more consideration to the lack of maturity these coaches have to deal with and try to mold into responsible young men. I’m sure they’ve seen it all. Many of us, myself included have assumed the worst for Baker because he’s let us down last year and this off-season by not participating in the voluntary mini camps. But with charges as serious as this, we really should pause and hear his lawyers side before we just convict him.

Ereck Flowees or Eli Apple take that prize We will have to disagree on that. Apple played better his rookie year then this player did and they got a 4th rounder for him. Why do people keep forgetting that Flowers did play very good for stretches without allowing sacks for weeks at a time? I agree with that. He wasn’t terrible all the time. Some times he would get beat early and then have a decent game where other linemen struggled much worse, but he was the fans target. Fans do that. They did it to Diehl as well. He was our whipping boy for a couple years despite other weaknesses on those o lines.

Maybe he was set up and this will get him to change so it might be a big blessing along with giving us something to argue about for a few days..

Well looks like this is gonna take a while their lawyers have sworn affidavits from several people that they didn't do anything and the allegations are not true. We will se where it all goes still wanna see Love take his job or Ballentine / Biel. I heard this morning that there was video . to prove Baker's innocence . If, true that would help him immensely .

If what this "Source's statement ": had any teeth to it. Why would Smart his former HC say this? If in fact he had to be pushed hard to tp paly and even go to practice.
Smart’s comments gives an idea when he made these comments as they are in defense of his former player so they must have come in season or after it.Perhaps we need to give more consideration to the lack of maturity these coaches have to deal with and try to mold into responsible young men. I’m sure they’ve seen it all. Many of us, myself included have assumed the worst for Baker because he’s let us down last year and this off-season by not participating in the voluntary mini camps. But with charges as serious as this, we really should pause and hear his lawyers side before we just convict him. It was 4 days ago. ugawire.usatoday.com/2020/05/12/georgia-hc-kirby-smart-believes-in-new-york-giants-cb-deandre-baker/The rest of your post are all fair points.

Jones is the only other choice I can think of but you are correct they all have been pretty bad but none went out and got arrested before their 2nd year which does have some weight to it.. Maybe he was set up and this will get him to change so it might be a big blessing along with giving us something to argue about for a few days.. A leopard doesn’t change its spots. Before he became Billy the kid he was labeled as being lazy. I don’t want those kind of players on our team. I'm with you but it seems like such a waste of a pick he he never plays again and I wouldn't like that either.

I don’t recall any red flags being raised during the draft or after it. I didn't either but the point is that the team knew about them and went against their comments on character and now it has bit them hard. That is the reality of the game as far as I see it. You do your homework and you assign your grades and go from there. How many times have we heard MS complain that we simply cannot just draft choir boys - that we need to draft the best players? Well, this is a perfect example of Gettleman’s Giants picking talent over the questions about the kid.

. Character concerns that were pointed out well prior to the draft. too such a point that pick was being questioned or trashed by the sports talking heads? Was it so blatant?? I certainly dont remember that but my memory sucks Why does the medias opinion all of a sudden matter? It doesnt when they bash our players/picks ie Daniel Jones. As I said a bunch, I dont even remember hearing about the character concerns back then. I just loved what I saw on the field. Not sure. Other GMs apparently knew though.
