Its simple really, if he's guilty, he's gone and unfortunately we just have to move on, sign a free agent and roll with what we have. What choice is there?
If he is innocent, he's either going to sink or swim with Judge. He certainly isn't going to play if he continues his crap from last season.
Maybe if he is innocent, this will be something that opens his friggin eyes to what he has and what he is in danger of pissing away and he straightens out..
Time will tell.

I guess it's feasible (and likely suggested) to re-pay the victims handsomely in exchange of dropping all charges. That seems like the most likely outcome. Wasn't there a statement that said Baker told the masked guy to shoot somebody that just walked into the party ? Even though there was no one shot doesn't that count as ordering a hit on someone ? Could that be strewed as attempted murder ? Apparently this was in front of everyone from what I got from the story.
I don't see how these guys can walk from this ? But what the hell do I know. I have no confidence in the courts and especially judges anyway.

I didn't either but the point is that the team knew about them and went against their comments on character and now it has bit them hard. That is the reality of the game as far as I see it. You do your homework and you assign your grades and go from there. How many times have we heard MS complain that we simply cannot just draft choir boys - that we need to draft the best players? Well, this is a perfect example of Gettleman’s Giants picking talent over the questions about the kid. I feel you do that with the 3rd day picks like Bradshaw or as UDFA like Will Hill. Trading up using three picks to do so this time was a big mistake I hope they learned from!

]If what this "Source's statement ": had any teeth to it. Why would Smart his former HC say this? If in fact he had to be pushed hard to tp paly and even go to practice. There would be no reason to say this if he was a problem to motivate. “I think that’s a part to growing up,” Smart told the New York Post. “I’ll say this, there’s not many rookie corners that aren’t going to struggle in that league. It’s not like they’re giving out Rookie of the Year to corners real often. Because when you’re doing your job, you don’t get a lot of credit, and when you’re not doing your job, you’re a sieve. So it’s usually going to go to a pass rusher or a linebacker who can put great statistics up there.
“When you’re on the back end you’re the last line of defense so that’s what everybody sees. Those three corners who were picked [in the first round this year], they’ll probably be the same way. They’re going to be under the limelight a lot more. I know Deandre will get better and he’ll keep working at it.”
It is a complete contridiction from his HC at Georiga was "Quoted" to what Source stated. I an still not convinced he did what he is charged with. There are too may contradictory stories in short amount of time.
The Head Coach who worked with for 4 years is the only opinion that matters. Why isn't he saying anything about Baker being lazy or needing motivation on a daily basis? What does he gain by hiding anything?

What does he gain by hiding anything? He gains the recruiting edge that he taught a 1st round player in his program. Baker doesn't do this alleged crime but then gets into the NFL and fails after 4 years it might just get looked over which I'm sure it has many times before.

Well looks like this is gonna take a while their lawyers have sworn affidavits from several people that they didn't do anything and the allegations are not true. We will se where it all goes still wanna see Love take his job or Ballentine / Biel. I heard this morning that there was video . to prove Baker's innocence . If, true that would help him immensely . Who knows the other side might have video timing of these videos will be important. His lawyer just posted he turned him self in supposedly in his councils words they have a trove of evidence including video. If he is innocent he needs to answer to why he is not participating in the off season virtual program a guy who looked lost most of last year needs to get with it or get left behind.

too such a point that pick was being questioned or trashed by the sports talking heads? Was it so blatant?? I certainly dont remember that but my memory sucks Why does the medias opinion all of a sudden matter? It doesnt when they bash our players/picks ie Daniel Jones. As I said a bunch, I dont even remember hearing about the character concerns back then. I just loved what I saw on the field. Not sure. Other GMs apparently knew though. point being that if Baker was such a "known" bad pick then the media would have been all over it

There were not major concerns he had a tag he was lazy at the combine and interviewed poorly. His film showed a guy who could cover the best in the country 1 on 1 you were right to love the pick at 29 or 30 what ever it was.

no...I am saying if it was "so known" that Baker had such blatant issues then why weren't the sports talking heads trashing the pick... Thats what I am saying Why does it matter? What’s the old saying? When it rains it pours. And right now it’s raining all over Baker. I hate using the phrase “red flags” But as we have known, they were there prior to the draft. Right now instead of talking about optimism of a season, we’re discussing in detail a lazy player (because that can’t be disputed) if he committed a crime. I for one don’t care if he stays or goes. Wait, I rather him go. Team above players I say, and this numbskull has no business being part of this great franchise. point being if Baker was "such a bad pick" DG would have been flamed at the time of draft. Thats why it matters. Its being made out that EVERYONE knew to not draft Baker except the Giants. Not saying that's your position but others on this board are taking that stance.

DeAndre Baker’s red flags sparked Giants draft ‘battle’
DeAndre Baker wasn’t the only one gambling.
The Giants ignored red flags uncovered in scouting Baker and placed a bet on talent by selecting the cornerback in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft despite an organizational split on whether he was worth the risk.
“There was a battle in our building on whether we were going to take DeAndre or not,”
a source privy to the Giants’ draft thinking told The Post, “because the story was he had to have his a– kicked every day to work hard at Georgia — to even go to practice. We knew that and we still drafted him, and from Day 1 it was like taking a guy in the
first round that you had to teach nearly everything to.”
General manager Dave Gettleman’s unexplained break from prioritizing clean character could cost the Giants dearly on the depth chart — where they have no suitable replacement — and in the bank (Baker signed a four-year, $10.2 million contract).
Police in Florida issued an arrest warrant Thursday for Baker, 22, on four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault.
Baker and Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar — charged with four counts of armed robbery with a firearm — allegedly lost $70,000 gambling earlier in the week before they and a masked accomplice stole $12,000 in cash and an estimated $61,000 in watches at gunpoint during another party with more gambling, witnesses said in a police affidavit.
The allegations are a long and difficult-to-foresee leap from the whispers about motivation, work ethic, commitment and responsibility that followed Baker before the draft — especially after his disappointing NFL Scouting Combine performance, both in drills and disengaged interviews — and caused multiple teams to slide him down their boards.
The Giants traded second-, fourth- and fifth-round picks to move up seven spots from No. 37 to No. 30 to make Baker the first cornerback off the board. Others in the building preferred Temple’s Rock Ya-Sin (Colts), Central Michigan’s Sean Murphy-Bunting (Buccaneers) and LSU’s Greedy Williams (Browns).
Those three are among seven second-round cornerbacks who were drafted after Baker, though Gettleman had ruled out Williams, the source said. Given the depth at the position, it was the kind of bold trade where a team must be sure one option is clear-cut above the rest.
“This is a bad look for the Giants,” one NFL scout said when asked what the Giants missed.
Baker, who allowed one touchdown pass in his final three years at Georgia, struggled handling the adversity of a poor start to his rookie season. He didn’t start Week 1, was torched in Week 2 and benched multiple times.
Baker routinely had difficulty staying awake in meetings and the previous Giants coaching staff took a “bad cop, bad cop” firm hand behind the scenes, the source said. The response was more tuning out instruction — Baker admitted he needed to spend more time in his playbook after a Week 10 loss to the Cowboys — than disrespect.
Baker did not participate in the Giants’ voluntary minicamp this week, according to The Athletic.
“You’d take him off his film,” a league source said. “But there were too many red flags. It felt like New York was a bad spot for him, anyway.”
Darryl Elmore, who coached Baker in track at Northwestern High School in Miami told The Post he was very surprised to hear of the allegations. Despite growing up in a neighborhood where violence is prevalent, Baker “wasn’t involved in any of that” and was the type of teenager a coach doesn’t worry about, Elmore said.
its weird to me because i don’t remember hearing anything like this after he was drafted, guess i just didnt look deep enough.

I did a search earlier today and found several articles where everyone was high on the pick without any mention of character issues. I didn't find anyone who didn't like the pick.
It truly goes to show that no one ever knows.

Ereck Flowees or Eli Apple take that prize We will have to disagree on that. Apple played better his rookie year then this player did and they got a 4th rounder for him. Why do people keep forgetting that Flowers did play very good for stretches without allowing sacks for weeks at a time? Well the holding penalties helped.

Smart’s comments gives an idea when he made these comments as they are in defense of his former player so they must have come in season or after it.Perhaps we need to give more consideration to the lack of maturity these coaches have to deal with and try to mold into responsible young men. I’m sure they’ve seen it all. Many of us, myself included have assumed the worst for Baker because he’s let us down last year and this off-season by not participating in the voluntary mini camps. But with charges as serious as this, we really should pause and hear his lawyers side before we just convict him. It was 4 days ago. ugawire.usatoday.com/2020/05/12/georgia-hc-kirby-smart-believes-in-new-york-giants-cb-deandre-baker/The rest of your post are all fair points. Under the limelight?

If something does happen and this thing goes a way then lets hope for a miracle that this wakes Baker up and he becomes a good player. If it doesn't go a way and this kid doesn't play again then he becomes a terrible decision by Getty and the worst 1st rounder in Giants history.. The dirt on this player is so baked in, his optics are so eff'ed up, his tenure brief, his play poor, that his risk level is now at Defcon ONE.IMO the chances of him playing for the NYG - or anywhere else for that matter - are effectively ZERO.
