We remember "Teflon Ton" G. It was never his fault. It was always someone else's. Yeah, I certainly remember that. IMO, he stayed at least two years too long. In 2014 I wanted our franchise to adopt some fresh ideas and adapt to the times. It just seemed like the team and franchise were still stuck in SB 46 when the rest of the league moved on. I was also pissed at TC for how he handled Hakeem Nicks' injury. He basically publicly pressured him to play while he was hurt, which cut Hakeem's career short by several years IMO. Tom as a topic on the old boards was a very confrontational one and some fans would want to fight when you had the audacity to criticize him. Yeah that was a big topic in 2012 and 2013. How Tom basically ruined Nicks. Ridiculous. Guy was a ****ing beast. Shame that he didn't make it past his rookie deal.. Tom was known to pressure injured players. I get trying to motivate them. But he took it too far

I can't lie, I disliked Tiki ratting out his HC on CBA violations but that doesn't make TC right for what he did. I guess Tiki's actions violated my sense of how a team should work (ie protect one another) On the other hand, TC didn't uphold his end of the "team bargain" either. The CBA is there to protect players and shouldn't be dismissed by anyone. A buddy of mine told me about a tape or tapes of Tom’s method of motivating his college players when he was at BC. Hearing about impacted my opinion of him. From what I remember, Tom was lucky those tapes were never made public. Wow

"My God he does treat them like children".
I accept at face value everything my trusted friends say here. So, how do we square this with his kind and supportive words for Jared Lorenzen and his life threatening battle with obesity?

I'm not familiar with Tom's words for Jared but I'm guessing Tom worked at a more humane approach with his players as we all heard about in 2007.

TC replaced a guy who wouldn't know discipline if it slapped him in the face. We needed to get back to a much more disciplined orientation.

Trusted friends, yes, but that was Morehead. 😎 Anyway I’m going to apologize in advance for this story because it’s way out there but it’s true and answers your question, Jomo. A woman came into my office who’s very spiritual. She is a person who uses archetype cards. They are a large deck of cards that have personality qualities on them. She asked me to separate the cards based on three piles. One pile for qualities I strongly believe apply to me personally, one meh pile, and one pile of qualities that doesn’t apply to me at all. It was really interesting. Then she took them home and did a whole work up on my choices. Anyone can try this but she took an extensive course in how to properly do this evaluation. Now I’m not a diehard spiritual guy but I believe it has its applications in certain places. But one of the personality qualities the cards are supposed to separate is whether a person is a rescuer or a care giver. For example, some people will go into a burning building to pull someone out but don’t ask them to put salve on their wounds every day for 6 weeks. It’s just not how they’re wired. Another example would be an ER Dr vs a physical therapist. That’s what Coughlin strikes me as. He’ll go to the ends of the Earth to save you but don’t ask him to coddle you and hold your hand. I found out from the cards that I’m the same type. It was actually fascinating.

It is interesting about personality types and the evaluation on TC seems valid. .....and by the way almost no one is pure this or that. There is a blend in most people. So, the question that follows from that goes like this: Is there a personality type (or blend thereof) that is best suited for an NFL HC?

Yes, absolutely, Fassell ran a loose ship with no focus or discipline. There was also the "injury" problem where we had a bunch of guys taking games off. Real or imagined, TC was asked to come in and put that to rest. Injuries are a funny thing. I suspect most are for real. Players are usually looking to their next contract and want to be on the field. They are also competitive and prideful people who don't want to lose their spot. That said there are also players who have a low threshold for taking games off with otherwise minor stuff. All of that said, TC may have had a stricter view on who was injured (OBJ comes to mind) but I am not sure anything changed under his reign that way. Perhaps we let go of a few more guys he thought were not showing up as often as they should.
