Giants are tapped out when it comes to cash. I don't think he will be coming in there is a cap this would be like signing John Beason to an extension after knowing his injury history, if any thing nothing long term. They need to figure out a way to bring him in. Defense is in a desperate state of suckiness and desperate measures are required.

Arrington had an ACL if I remember right. Smith has a degenerative knee condition that will never heal. Wow, I just looked up his contract. We signed him to a 7 year deal! And he only played 1. I believe Arrington went down with an ACL on Monday Night vs Dallas. Dont ask me why I remember this. I believe it was also Romo's first game when the starter went down. (the starters name is at the tip of my tongue but I cant remember. his name...dude from NE) Drew Bledsoe

If, Smith is claimed by any team. That team must take over Dallas contract. Smith , will then clear waivers .

Was shocked to see this pop up on Twitter but hell Yes I would take Jaylon Smith on this team especially with Blake Martinez being out for the season Get It Done Gettleman! boy our luck is so bad when it comes to losing key players to injury

So if they cut him is he free to sign with who he wants?? Or does he have to go through waivers and someone can claim him??
If not id think he would be really open to coming over to the giants so he can stick it to the cowboys starting sunday afternoon

No one will claim him bec no one will want to take on that contract So they as a FA a team can negotiate a deal with him But he can make the full amt sitting home so...

I have a buddy who's a C-Men fan, and we were just talking about Smith. My buddy seemed to think he hadn't been playing well as of late....seemed to disappear. Perhaps that's due to the overall LB talent the C-Men have?
I checked his stats real quick and he's a tackling machine. Per usual, I don't know how his contract would impact us in future years if we decide to sign him, but it's an interesting thought.

Undersized, slow COD and gets run over at the POA. Pass So that's it then? They need to continue to suck with what they have right now? Do we need to endure another week of this defense getting run over by back up QB's and letting RB's get 9 yards a carry? Smith averages close to 150 tackles a season. If this is not done, this team is basically resigning itself to not even attempt to improve defensively this season. Do you see the offenses they have coming up? They keep playing defense like they have, they will lose every single game miserably and without Martinez the defense is going to continue to be horrid. They were playing lousy even with Martinez! Cannot win a shoot out each week against these upcoming opponents no way no how. they've been in three games and won one. The Denver game got away and the offense stunk too. The D hasnt been great but the NYGs lost two games on last second FGs. Jaylon Smith is NOT a must have player. Would he be a nice addition? Yes he would but they are not conceding anything by not signing him. BTW this week vs the Cowboys they will have to score +30. Most teams would have to. They are clicking at the moment

(That Lavar contract was insane)
Yes. His college knee injury really destroyed his knee. He almost had his leg amputated I believe.

If he passes a physical why the hell not? We can give him Ximines knee.. It’s not like Oshane will need it.

Guano in the NFL section said all that needed to be said He tends to be even keeled about things (though I still disagree with him that Cooper should never have been given that contract) Lost all lateral movement (which is what we thought would be the first to go with that knew)

Sign him up. The man can play. Assuming he's healthy, of course.
EDIT: Just saw they were trying to trade him in the off-season...this speaks more to releasing him due to $$$ than to injury.

The Giants need desperate help defensively. Perhaps he is a bad scheme fit for Quinn but might be a good fit for Graham. If he has limitations and fails a physical fine move on. If there are things he still can do well you sign him immediately and let him help situationally.

So with LBs being a weakness would anyone take a chance on him? At a huge cost reduction of course.
The Cowboys owe him his full salary this year. I would take him in a heartbeat. Tackling machine. Has not missed a single game as a pro. Fast as hell.
No. If you truly watched Cowboy games you would know he is barely an upgrade and doubt hes coming here to play on a minimum deal.

Highly doubt he is healthy. The knee is toast.
The Giants would make sense as a stop gap since they lost Martinez but not for much money and not for more than 1 year. But probably not possible. Giants have managed cap poorly.
If he can actually play there will probably be a team that can offer something.
But I doubt he can play.

Crowder is playing better than him,is healthy and has upside Remember how teams at the end of Pierce's career would just find him and isolate a back on him one on one for a guaranteed 10 plus yards? Same thing here.. They probably cut him fearing Barkley would eat him alive all day in the passing game

So the Cowboy fans on reddit are saying he's still good against the run but horrible against the pass. 2 down specialist in our defense? I'd kick the tires on him. Still better than the no names we have now.

This guy had a limited shelf life from day 1 due to his degenerative knee condition. He is not the player he was 2-3 years ago. Dallas would not be releasing now, salary cap advantage next year or not, if he was any sort of impact player. Cutting him this early in the season tells me all I need to know.

I left my assessment of Smith over on the NFL page. He's not necessarily slow but with the knee his mobility suffers. (acceleration and lateral movement).
Refresher on the knee ... in the 2016 Fiesta Bowl ( The Ohio State vs ND ) Smith got hit/pushed after the play and tore an ACL and LCL. Cowboys team doctor did the repairs and the biggest rehab issue was there was nerve damage and nerve regrowth was slow and I'm not sure if it ever fully healed. Obviously he's not the same player as he was at ND.
Injury at about 2:30 so yall can skip all the propaganda :

I bet he is more likely to go to a contender. Probably KC or something. What exactly is a contender 4 games in? A lot can change. What if we win our next 2 then are we contenders? Kansas City, Tampa, Green Bay, Seahawks, Cardinals, Ravens, Bills. Seriously?
