We have And many of us didn't think he would be an upgrade over what we have now A shoe with no owner would be an upgrade. Our best linebacker, is about to go under the knife. And our second best one, is the assistant to the general manager. Actually Smith would not have been an upgrade to what we have

Actually Smith would not have been an upgrade to what we have What do we have besides names on jerseys? Players that are no worse than Smith that are healthy and possibly an upside

Ximines, has been a massive disappointment. Ragland is a rag doll, and Carter Coughlin is a situational player. That leaves us with Crowder and the kid with every vowel in his name. I refuse to believe a player who was good, would not be an upgrade to a position that is still at windows xp. No matter. He’s in Green Bay, and we’re stuck with the hunch bunch.

Was good with a rapidly degenerative knee that was a severe liability on the field .. Signing him would just have been re arranging the furniture on the 65th floor of the glass tower in the Towering Inferno

I don't think I have ever seen so much clamoring over a player just cut by another team. Really happy he landed elsewhere. You clearly never saw our linebackers in action.. I have and my instincts are pretty good. Mid season cut by the 'girls is never going to be a good pick up for me.

My two Cowboys insiders (my buddy and my cousin) are not upset about losing Smith. Per both of them, he's lost a step and doesn't make the impact he once did. As much as we may want a LB, signing a one who's lost a step and has an injury history like Smith's doesn't seem like a smart move. Especially when you consider the contract involved. I guarantee you he isn't making big money with the Pack and probably just signed for the rest of the year. Even if he lost a step, he would have been one of the better LBS on the team. Oh well, it's done... You might be right. Maybe i heard it wrong but I thought Dallas gets a prorated rate if another team picked Smith up this year? I also thought he had a $9M tag next year?

Smith can't cover . He has a career completion precentage of 80% He can't cover anyone. A middle linebacker that can't cover in a 3-4 is useless. He averages 3 sacks a year. He is not a pass rusher. So what is he? Where does he fit in a 3-4?
He can't cover in pass defense He not a pass rusher He has never played in a 3-4 It would take him weeks to understand his role in the 3-4
I do not get where 6 pages of debate came from in this thread.
Looking at it from at Joe and Dave's point of view . What impact does (would have) singing him bring? Ready in week 9-10,. It won't fix the fact he sucks in pass coverage and he is not a pass rusher.
I get why Dallas cut him .Tackling is a great skill to have for a LB . A LB in the NFL needs to have that plus another skill. He doesn't.

I didn't advocate claiming him and that crazy contract, I was advocating for kicking the tires once he cleared waivers. No team would claim him with that contract. Cheap and under rated signings can make a big difference to a team. Like I previously mentioned, it's a done deal. The Giants are going to live or die with the players they already have this year.

Funny thing is that we made a bunch of cheap and underrated signings and trades during cut down time on the o line and all the fans bitching about these moves are the same ones GETTY SIGN HIM YOU STOOOOOOOPID IMGRATE!

Those were pretty good moves, I agree. Just sucks that they lost Martinez. If the Giants defense was producing like last year, this team would be a playoff team. Right now, they aren't even if the offense continues to improve. Oh well, at least it appears that the Giants aren't in QB hell. They can use those extra picks to continue to build the team up... Edit - This team is supremely frustrating. The defense looked like it turned the corner last year and with the moves, could potentially be a top 5 defense. Then they make the additions to bolster the offense and we all knew it would be a work in progress and they are about where many of us thought they would be this year. If the defense only held up its part, we would finally be watching a competitive teams that would be in the playoff hunt. Now, every game has playoff implications....
