My two Cowboys insiders (my buddy and my cousin) are not upset about losing Smith. Per both of them, he's lost a step and doesn't make the impact he once did. As much as we may want a LB, signing a one who's lost a step and has an injury history like Smith's doesn't seem like a smart move. Especially when you consider the contract involved. Injury history? He had one (major) injury and has not missed a single game in his entire NFL career outside of his rookie season which was spent in rehab.

So with LBs being a weakness would anyone take a chance on him? At a huge cost reduction of course.
The Cowboys owe him his full salary this year. I would take him in a heartbeat. Tackling machine. Has not missed a single game as a pro. Fast as hell.
1,000% no. He was one of the most over rated and hated players on that team. His “tackling machine” stats are extremely misleading and come from making tackles 10 yards downfield. His angles suck, his awareness sucks, he’s an absolute tool. I wouldn’t want him kn this team if he played for free. The last thing we need is another Gettleman reclamation project, been there done that and they have largely been failures. The tool thing I can agree with. The "tackles 10 yards down the field" is something people say about every single LB with lots of tackles. The exact same thing was said about Martinez. If a LB is making tackles 10 yards down the field that means 1) other players Fd up, 2) he has hustle and 3) he stopped what would have been a much larger gain. Either way it is an easy thing to prove or disprove. PFF has a stat ADOTK (average depth of tackle). Maybe someone here with access can let us know what his is compared to other LBs.
I was thinking of Smith in college, who was one of my favorites at Notre Dame ever. I admit that I forgot what a jackass he turned into in the NFL. So I'm good either way.

Looks like the Packers got Smith. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 Yay we can get ready to watch this Giants defense get slaughtered against this murderer's row schedule coming up.👎 Overreact much over a way past his prime player probably not any better than what we have ?

He wanted to go to the Packers. 2. If we're going to get throttled by the upcoming offenses, Jaylon Smith wasn't going to negate that fact. Disagree on #2 but whatever. Negate completely, no, help yes. Graham has his work cut out for him is all I know. It does not sound like he is seeking a head coaching spot seriously but if he is dreaming of one eventually, he better straighten this out quick and get this defense to impress in these coming weeks or he can kiss that dream goodbye for the foreseeable future.

He wasn't turning us into the 85 Bears, he's actually not a good pass rusher at all. Just tackles guys like Taysom Hill before he breaks 15 tackles lmao.

That one major injury is said to be degenerative and Smith has battled complications like drop foot because of it. Paying top dollar for someone who's apparently lost a step at 26 years old doesn't seem wise. Whether or not the injury is the cause, I have no clue just like the rest of us, but it isn't worth the risk for a team in our position. At least in my opinion.

Yes. His college knee injury really destroyed his knee. He almost had his leg amputated I believe. That is not what a degenerative knee is though. His career was almost over due to that injury but that is very different than a degenerative knee. Jaylon Smith and Todd Gurley are very different in terms of their knee injuries. I'm not saying the guy is healthy and honestly when I made this post yesterday I was excited because of my fond memories of Smith at Notre Dame. 24 hours later I am on the "either way is fine with me" bandwagon. Same. @ ND I was calling him a poor mans LT. He was that high on my radar. Then the knee thing happened. He blew it out. Tore everything. All the cartilage gone. Bone on bone grinding making the knee a ticking time bomb, or a degenerative knee condition that breaks over time. It's a shame because he was going to be really special. Like Sean Taylor if he was a LB. That's what I imagined.

I feel like people are just throwing that around, unless I am missing something. I could be wrong of course.
There was a study published in 2016 that reported that 25% of players at the combine that have had knee surgery have knee OA (degenerative knee). That is crazy to think of. Anyway I'm getting into the weeds too much, I just followed him and his injury a ton and don't know of any credible source saying its degenerative.
I agree paying top dollar for him is not wise. The only reason I was interested is because Dallas is paying his salary this year. I was thinking a 1 year prove it kind of deal. Agreed not worth the risk. Also I had nostalgia last night thinking about his Notre Dame days and after thinking more on it this afternoon I am good without him. Now he's in GB anyway.

As a kid I used to love that movie "The Program" and his entire story just reminded me of the LB in that movie so much. I'm actually really glad he was able to make it in the NFL as much as he did. People were saying "Oh man he looks almost as good as Manti Teo" and I would laugh my ass off trying to explain he was 10 times better. Such a shame.
Good luck in Green Bay, hope he helps beat the Bears twice

I guarantee you he isn't making big money with the Pack and probably just signed for the rest of the year. Even if he lost a step, he would have been one of the better LBS on the team. Oh well, it's done...

I don't think I have ever seen so much clamoring over a player just cut by another team.
Really happy he landed elsewhere.

Whenever I've watched Jaylen play he looks like he is always going for the big impact play, where he is making the stop. Instead of just doing his assignment.
Gets washed out of plays alot, pursues up field too much, just like he is out of sync with the rest of the defense.
I think a change of scenery could do the guy some good.

cool. I must ask, what's is and with that username hehehe You know guano is another name for poop. OK, I use this around the web in a few places. I guess you've figured out I'm a Cowboy fan. I absolutely despise the Eagles, their organization, the attitudes. but mostly the fans. They are so obnoxious and out front. ESPN even did a special about the Eagle's fans hate for Dallas. I took it all in stride (I'm an old guy) until they cheered Michael Irvin's neck injury. Now, I'm no great Irvin fan but that was way beyond classless. So now, hopefully we have something in common . . . despite for the Eagles. All of this I've posted here before. On a side note I actually pulled for/cheered for the NYG in their 2 SB's against the Patsies. I do respect the Giant organization as one of the founding League organizations and as one with class. I know folks say that New Yorkers are hard and crass and I can see that. I've only flown through there, never visited although considered moving there about 20 years ago but have made a fairly close friend via the internet from upstate (Giants fan, not Bills) and we have fishing in common. We've had that talk (about the people). Texas folks are pretty easy going and friendly but that is changing. So, I don't feel near the animosity toward the Giants that I do for Philthy. I won't even fly through Philthy. (I go to Maine frequently, wife is from NB, Can). All that said I still want our Cowboys to BTHO your Giants Sunday! Bob Lmao we shall battle on sunday. I'd never go on another forum being a Giants fan tho lol

I don’t think there is a chance he signs here at all.
Why go from Dallas to the Giants unless there’s no interest from anywhere else in the NFL.
If I’m his agent I’m making sure he goes to a strong defense.
That’s not here.

I'd never go on another forum being a Giants fan tho lol It's kinda fun. Doesn't affect my Cowboy loyalty in the least and to some extent can give me a feel for who we're playing. I also have learned that different fan bases have different personalities. Example, mid-week last week I went over to the busy Carolina Panthers Carolina Huddle website. WOW! I thought the folks over on the Eagles SB Nation site, Bleeding Green Nation, were unrealistic and salty but they can't hold a candle to the Carolina Huddle posters. Most professed their undying hate for the Cowboys. While I'm thinking "Damn, who are these folks" and that Carolina as a team wasn't even on my radar. Anyway, lots of insanity over there. Very salty bunch! I like this site (obviously). Some real good folks, smart footballers, and not too salty (shock). Y'all even have a SB winning QB who posts here and that's kinda cool. A few ex-Cowboy players do post over on CowboyZone but mostly get a safety and an ex-coach. Good luck Giants.

You clearly never saw our linebackers in action.. We have And many of us didn't think he would be an upgrade over what we have now A shoe with no owner would be an upgrade. Our best linebacker, is about to go under the knife. And our second best one, is the assistant to the general manager.
