Have you watched him play this year? The Giants need desperate help defensively. Perhaps he is a bad scheme fit for Quinn but might be a good fit for Graham. If he has limitations and fails a physical fine move on. If there are things he still can do well you sign him immediately and let him help situationally. I really haven't seen him play this year, but a lot of people are saying that he has dropped off a lot physically. Just not sure that he is a "we got to have" kind of guy at this point. Guess it depends on what kind of money he wants.

Smith was cut because of poor performance for the cost and because Dallas is getting a ton of players back in the next few weeks off of IR and there are frankly better prospects. There is some talk that he's become a distraction because of attitude and not starting. Now he has started the last couple of weeks because Keanu Neal was out with COVID Protocol but Neal is coming back this week and fits Dallas' base scheme better.
Dallas is flush at LB. They drafted Parson's and Jabril Cox (LSU) this year. They have several more in the stable waiting. Don't look for LVE to be on the team next year. Now if you want a big MLB there's your guy (LVE). Big and strong. He's really muscled up this year.

I checked his stats real quick and he's a tackling machine. Ten yards down field. The defenses are set up for the MLB to make the tackles so yes, they'll have the stats. Unfortunately stats don't always tell the whole story..

If, Smith is claimed by any team. That team must take over Dallas contract. Smith , will then clear waivers . ok so u answered my question. It goes in the waiver order from team to team. No one will claim him bec no one will want to take on that contract So they as a FA a team can negotiate a deal with him But he can make the full amt sitting home so... He is a pro football player. It's better for him and his future that he continues to play this year. This actually would be a really smart move if he is willing to come. The question is how much money does he want and does he want to come to NY....

So with LBs being a weakness would anyone take a chance on him? At a huge cost reduction of course. The Cowboys owe him his full salary this year. I would take him in a heartbeat. Tackling machine. Has not missed a single game as a pro. Fast as hell.
Banks said something earlier that he needs โreprogrammingโ as a LB. Not sure what that means but it doesnโt sound good. Also does he fit a 3-4? I know we run a hybrid but for the most part we run a lot of 3-4 sets. Yes he is a perfect fit for a 3-4 ILB.

Guess it depends on what kind of money he wants. The pickens are slim and who would we be able to trade for a solid ILB come the deadline without giving up precious draft capital? They have to do something or be prepared to watch this defense embarrass themselves in the next several weeks against all the top 5 offenses in the league basically No one knows if he has dropped off physically except the Dallas coaches and doctors. No talking head or Dallas fan saying that he has dropped off physically can be taken seriously. Even if his play is dropped off this season, it can also be because of a bad fit under Quinn's scheme and not due to any speculative physical limitation. The Giants have to do something to help this defense immediately.

I think this deal will be done unless DG sits on his hands and waits too long because good LBers don't last long on the market..

If he is truly healthy and Gettleman does nothing on this I am done with him for good. I have backed him up a lot more than many here but if this does not get done tomorrow the latest, I am done with him. This defense is a mess and Blake is not coming back this season. The defense is a disaster right now and this can only help if he is healthy. It is a must sign. We currently have $1.2M in cap space. How do we sign him? They need to figure it out. This is why you have Abrams to get creative. Did anyone think they could sign as much as they did this offseason and would be able to restructure as much as they did? Let the front office figure it out. The defense needs a solid ILB to help even if for depth. Figure it out and bring in a quality guy who could potentially help.

Nonsense. They have physicals for a reason. They must bring him for a look. This is not even a question. It must get done and if healthy enough that he can play on it you sign him immediately. Not to be that guy but our medical teamโs physicals seem highly questionable. Or at least in combination with our GM. If he passes a NFL calibur physical you sign him. End of discussion

Watch us not sign him & he goes to another team & balls out the rest of the yr while we continue to have trouble tacking QBs, let alone RBs & WRs. Those attempted tackles of Tysom were pathetic to watch. You think LT, Banks, Carson & Reasons don't smash Tysom? Banks musta been having convulsions watching that poor display of "tackling" by the Giant D.

Remove Parsons from the middle and Engram will go nuts Dallas has Parsons, Vander Esch and Jabril ( rookie ) Cox@ LB. Donโt know who is the fourth LB. Diggs ( cb ) is a gambler and has been paying ( so far ) off . what's your point? More scary names just like our last 4 opponents? ๐

Stephen Gilmore is getting released as well and people say he may end up in Dallas or Tampa.

I think maybe as a stop gap for the last 12 games or so, not make the mistake of resigning like they did with Beason that was a huge blunder and he had a much worse injury history then Smith. Last year when we played them he looks dbad against the run.

Which LB will cover Barkley ?? it doesn't work like that. I'm sure they will scheme up things to keep Barkely in check. It's Garrett's job to not let that happen.

It would be nice to have the 2018 edition of Jaylon Smith. Not sure what he's bringing now. Can't imagine he wouldn't be more mobile than Ragland.
If nothing else, it would make for a great story if he came in and helped the Giants beat his own team in their backyard.

Oh yeah. You might be right. If he's not vaxxed then he would have to go thru some kind of protocol. This virus is the worst.

Glad you were finally able to get that off your chest ๐ Feeling better? "SEND ME A PICTURE OF YOUR CHEST!!!!" Here's some advice about jokes and how to deploy them. You keep a joke fresh by not using it everyday. It quickly goes from funny to cringe to unfunny very quickly if you continue using your methods. Hope this helps ๐๐ฟ

Sources saying the Cowboys initially tried to trade Smith with no takers.
Very telling.
Jayson sounds like his career is on pace with Kenny Phillips. Both with degenerative knee injuries. Both played at a high level for 2 years, then all down hill from there.

Yes he is a perfect fit for a 3-4 ILB. Interesting. Here's the tweet I read from Carl Banks What does Banks know about being a LB??
