This week’s film breakdown analyzes New York Giants Quarterback Daniel Jones. Jones is heading into his 3rd season with the Giants but has turned the ball over at a shocking rate which has led them to an 8-18 record when he starts. He has turned the ball over at an alarming rate and it's been infuriating and is something I am concerned about. That said, he's a young QB, who's played in two different offenses in his two different years in the NFL. He's played with lackluster playmakers in particular wide receivers and played behind some poor oline play. Turnovers and growing pains are expected. There are plenty of good things he's done as well, it hasen't been all bad the kid has potential.
What matters is this season, if its more of the same even with all of these upgrades another year in the nfl another year in garretts systems, then we have a problem. I do think he's going to take the next step, the weapons if they they all stay healthy are enough to make any young QB really make that leap we need to see Daniel make.

Well there have been enough turnovers to give everyone some blame. Jones, the WRs, Engram, the OL, the OC, the HC (Shurmur obviously), the injuries, the doctors, the refs, the other teams.

Last year was going to be a struggle no matter what It's do or be replaced time as teams don't have the luxury of waiting 5 years to develop a qb anymore unfortunately |

Pretty much what we already know
DJ needs to cut down the turnovers, complete passes to his talented receivers and hope the OL has improved as much as the coaches think it has
I also believe DJ knows the situation and he will handle the pressure to perform in a positive way and do enough to have a winning season
If not, then with two first round draft picks, the Giants will be getting a new QB

all QBs have their own issues when making mistakes. Jones has his.
Other players also make mistakes that lead to turnovers.
Pretty much basic football.

Very difficult to teach pocket awareness to QB's....athletic QB's (dual) unfortunately get into bad habits at an early age, and you sometimes simply can't ever make them aware, and comfortable inside a NFL pocket.
This is such an important year for the Giants regarding Jones...he takes the step and we have the guy...or not, and we're 3 steps back.
I'm still kind of concerned over the OL....

Very difficult to teach pocket awareness to QB's....athletic QB's (dual) unfortunately get into bad habits at an early age, and you sometimes simply can't ever make them aware, and comfortable inside a NFL pocket. This is such an important year for the Giants regarding Jones...he takes the step and we have the guy...or not, and we're 3 steps back. I'm still kind of concerned over the OL.... always figured a QB who has happy feet and wont stand tall in the pocket would be the biggest issue. We have a guy who will sit in there oblivious to whats around him. A great trait if he can get it under control. |

The OL wont be dominant thats for sure. They will be improved we just have to see how much. There are very few "dominant" OLs in the NFL. Jones. or any NFL starting caliber QB, should not need a dominant OL just a good one should work. Jones makes his own mistakes above and beyond the OL or receivers messing up. However the OL AND the receivers screw up too often as well. Its a formula that wont work if it doesn't get improved on all sides |

I am not comparing Jones to Josh Allen but where the comparison starts is they both work extremely hard on their games where else it is evident, the Bills built him a good OL and gave him some of the better weapons in football Beasly is one of the best 3rd down targets around and Diggs is top 3 WR solid TEs and RBs and the defense was already good. The Giants took their time being in todays NFL you need to know by year 3 what you have because of salary cap structure, it is year 3 and Jones will finally be in the same offense for 2 years but he will be playing with many of his play makers for the first time. What I'm saying here is Allen became a better QB yes but the Bills became an even better football team. I can see if the Giants work in the offseason works out Jones having a good year 3, we have to remember some of the QBs taken a year before him Allen and Mayfield for sure have been surounded by better weapons / OLs and solid defenses. Mayfield had the same things happen to him as far as having stability so Jones can overcome it just takes a little longer. Allen has been in a QB incubator lol same system adding talent for 4 years now, Hopefully we get to see the best of Jones if we don't someone else might. |

The narrator was 100% on point with regards to Jones not being able to handle plays not going according to plan. That's been one of my biggest concerns with him as the good QBs are able to figure out what to do next when things don't go according to plan.
Gave a prime example with him not being able to manage the pocket in order to buy time to complete his progression. Or if a defense disguises a coverage, he struggles reading the defense post snap.
He really needs to make a big jump this year.

I don't comment often... but this is horrendous analysis.
Like next level bad. It assumes about 100 things and hes speaking like it is fact.
Analytics and nextgens say Jones is one of the best deep throwers and one of the worst short throwers. The game where Garret didn't call plays and Kitchens did they moved the ball much better. ....and as a result changed the offense in the last string of games where Jones looked much better.
Not a Pro Jones Guy or an Anti Jones Guy... but I hate when its deserved and show love when its deserved. His breakdown of film seems to be from someone who has never played, been in a locker room or truly understands the mechanics of playing quarterback.
Like the Washington play for instance, he left out the fact that Jones had been hit over and over all game. Stepping up is better but even the BEST get rattled after their 4th or 5th hit. He also tried to say his pocket composure is suspect. I can't see that at all. This dude stands in an igloo and throws out the front door most of the time. If anything I think he is TOO composed a lot of the time he doesnt feel pressure\doesnt let it bother him enough.

For sure, I think we’re all on the same page but I don’t care if the O line is still bad or if they want to blame it on Garrett, there are several areas of improvement he can show even with a bad O line or lackluster play calling. Next year we’ll most likely be in the best position to draft a QB than we will be for years to come. If Jones doesn’t shine brightly, next year will be the year to pull the trigger on a new QB and not kick the can down the road while we wait another year to see what we have. Unfortunately, even if Jones is mediocre this year, I have a feeling DG will die on the Jones hill and not draft a new QB next year (assuming he’s still here). |
