Yeah the injury clause is truly boneheaded. Whoever the legal folks were that advised on that are dopes. They should have compromised and said no injury guarantee but we will give you more at signing. Try to set up your future years to be clear. You pump 5 beers into JS and he’ll tell you he’d like that negotiation back. Rookie GM, rookie HC, both made and won in the playoffs on their first try with a dogshit roster. They thought they had more than they did. They felt the line would improve and the out in the contract was enough, what they couldn’t do (they thought at the time) is tag Jones an have 15 TDs with next to nothing in INTs turn into 30 TDs and no long term deal in place. Just a hunch, I think DJ and his agent played hardball with that contract negotiation, and I think JS is going to do the same with DJ this year. Not as payback, just as a reality of the deal DJ wanted. If DJ is not amazing after a few games, he won’t see the field again this year. Depending on what they do in the draft he may not see the field at all. Fans don’t talk about it, but there’s no requirement that he even sees the field. They could just stash him on IR based on how his recovery has progressed and leave him there. Arizona drafted Josh Rosen and immediately moved up for Kyler right after that. Our fans will think no one has ever made a harsh decision like that so quickly after commuting so much. Lots have.
To quote Paul Schwartz:
"The Giants believe Jones will be ready to return in time for training camp and that he should be ready for the start of the season. There is certainly a possibility the Giants take a quarterback high in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.
Even if that happens, Jones, if healthy, is expected to be the opening day starter."

what the **** is wrong with this board? Drew Lock is 9-14 as starter and has 28 TDs to 23 INTs in the NFL Clearly he should be QB1. I really believe some of you are SCARED that Jones might turn out to be decent. Don’t think many are saying lock should be QB1. We are saying that - “holy crap, for some reason the Seattle gm got the impression that Lock will be getting an opportunity to start for us.” Now its… Is his impression based on reality? Or is it based on bad info or just completely concocted

It's strange that Joe Schoen has been saying this exact thing since the end of last season but many fans don't want to hear it.
For those fans in particular, did you also believe the Giants wouldn't sign Jones for $40 million a season?
Seems to me that so many people have closed the book on Daniel Jones but the Giants aren't one of them, and they continue to tell us that they expect Jones to be their starter.
I fully expect them to draft a QB because of Jones' history. But barring injury, I don't see him getting benched this season. The idea that TT and Meatloaf were the better QB's is simply ridiculous.

Honestly, I hope that when Daniel’s Jones is healthy he can win the starting spot. If he’s healthy and Lock beats him out….it’ll make this franchise look more laughable than an already laughing stock. If a rookie beats out Jones…so be it.

I think if they can get up and get a QB they will they might just take JJ at 6 because he can sit and learn behind Jones or Lock or both. deep WR class they would have get 1 in the second round. Or draft Rattler in 3rd and WR at 6. they’re not going with Rattler. You can’t go with 2 question marks, add a 3rd and start scouting the country for 2025. Rattler offers a lot from a physical stand point and seems to have matured and been humbled then again you bon't draft a QB just to draft one but he has more physical talent than some of the guys being talked up after the top 4. get him in the 3rd or 4th and develop.

I think the Giants would love it if they could leave Jones on bench in Bubble rap because of the injury clause and like it more if Lock could use that arm he has to challenge the whole field like TT did last year.

Jones did end up tearing his ACL and has one year left before being cuttable. Can't bank on him coming right back and being the teams future. Its the GM's job to cover for the different variables. Everyone gets it. The way you put it…makes Joe Schoen look like he’s done right. The way I look at is…Joe Schoen caused this disaster where Lock could potentially start over his $50 mil QB. Not a good look. Yes Schoen did cause the disaster. Starting with not utilizing the 5th year option eliminating the leverage he would have had with Jones. Should have protected himself from the scenario that ended up happening. I don't fault him paying Jones though. Logically after the season and playoffs Jones had. If he is allowed to leave and does well with another team. If Schoen doesn't have the quality QB in place to move forward with. He is probably fired after being clowned all season by the media and most likely you as well. If he franchised Jones then they would have lost Barkley. They were tryna keep it together to continue to make playoff pushes. Evaluating Lock starting over Jones depends on how well Lock performs. If he does well. U can knock him for the Jones contract, but also praise him for being able to obtain quality alternate plan for $5mil.

If your Schoen the injury clause has to be on your mind. IF the Giants draft a QB then its very clear what there doing with Jones, Lock could be a very good backup to the next QB unless he out performs Jones which I would think Schoen would love to see so he can as you say Bubble Rap Jones. I know we are talking QB here but Oline for me is the bigger focus. Which ever QB is starter this oline must be much better going forward.

I think Jones will have to work to be the starter Lock has a strong arm also has his own issues with Mechanics. That said he he can beat DJ Lock has improved while sitting watching and learning. Unless Jones is injured there is almost zero chance Lock beats him out. This is coming from a Lock fan btw. yeah but we all know that it's not always that a player is playing because he beat someone out lol...........

I wouldn't be shocked if the giants are trying very hard t get that number 1 pick. I doubt Chicago moves on but, you have to image the giants are trying. Washington is dead set on a new QB, I have to think the Patriots are as well to. Vikings/Broncos all need a future QB among others. So you need to worry about the swooping in to land a guy you like. This giants QB position is a disaster

Dunning-Kruger Effect:Definition - The Dunning-Kruger effect is a type of cognitive bias in which people believe they are smarter and more capable than they are. Essentially, low-ability people do not possess the skills needed to recognize their own incompetence. The combination of poor self-awareness and low cognitive ability leads them to overestimate their capabilities. So what explains this psychological effect? Are some people simply too dense to recognize it? Dunning and Kruger suggest that this phenomenon stems from what they refer to as a "dual burden." People are not only incompetent; their incompetence robs them of the mental ability to realize just how inept they are. Incompetent people tend to: Overestimate their skill levels Fail to recognize the genuine skill and expertise of other people Fail to recognize their own mistakes and lack of skill The very knowledge and skills necessary to be good at a task are the same qualities that a person needs to recognize that they are not good at that task. So if a person lacks those abilities, they remain not only bad at that task but ignorant of their inability.
Synopsis -
Basically, everyone here thinks they are a GM and could fix our issues without knowing anything about all the details involved. They aren't GMs so they don't understand the complexity and think it's as simple as moving on from Jones. We wouldn't have won 2 SBs with Eli if these board experts ran things so let them ramble, it's not their fault, they're just frustrated and recency bias (success of other teams) leads them to believe we just have to copy the blueprint of others...which is probably the quickest route to becoming the worst team in the league

This year they lost those close games the league caught up to his game of pull it down and run with spy's and such, they forced him to throw it clamped down on the slants and Hitches screens also made the middle of the field a no fly zone.

Weird story all around. I could see it being that Lock got the offer from NYG and wanted to leave SEA for some reason that he didnt feel comfortable telling the SEA FO. So, he had his agent tell SEA FO a reason that was inarguable and easy to accept (though, maybe not true) - that he has a better opportunity to start in NY than in SEA. He also probably didnt think it would ever get talked about publicly or get back to Giants. I think he thinks he has a better shot at starting the most games with the Giants. Thats pretty much it. He mentioned Baker Mayfield. He wants to follow that path and build his next contract up.

They all need quarterbacks. Chicago is going QB Washington traded their starter New England traded their starter Guesing AZ is going Harrison who is their new Fitzgerald It comes down to San Diego. And if the Chargers want a player they can add draft capital AND get the player they want by swapping with the Giants If Minny moves up to the Chargers, the Chargers will likely lose their target

Lock got 1/5
The “ability to start” convo likely related to Jones durability or lack thereof
Lock coukld start season if Jones cant play or based on history he can start games when Jonea gets hurt.
Bottomline is they are comparable players and that is not a compliment to Lock.

They might put on the appearance of a QB competition for a short while, but I expect Jones to start week 1. At the end of Lock's contact, his biggest achievement will have been holding down the OTA's and offseason camps while Jones rehabs. Unless we se a totally different Lock then we've seen before, he'll be closer to QB 3. If Daboll likes coaching the Giants it would be best if he does not prescribe to that type of thinking Locks not the answer but he can makes every throw and is not afraid to let it go.Like a certain QB that has been the king of slants screens and hitch's. It takes more to that to be a good QB, and Lock hasn't been. Jones has never been challenged in his 6 years, which I'm sure that's the motivation behind this signing. It's a smart move and I expect Daboll will keep an open mind. It should bring the best of out of both QB's. Like I said, I expect some type of QB competition. I just don't think it will be much of one... I'll be rooting for the rookie.

"Being cuttable". I keep hearing that. Sure they can cut him, and eat $22M. And if he plays this year and gets hurt, which he most likely will if he plays, they would have to eat over $50M in 2025 if they want to cut him. So, what do they do? Joe Schoen screwed himself and Dabs with that contract. DJ had an injury history already. If there was an injury clause, it should have helped the Giants and not Jones. Yeah the injury clause is truly boneheaded. Whoever the legal folks were that advised on that are dopes. They should have compromised and said no injury guarantee but we will give you more at signing. Try to set up your future years to be clear. Any QB with a second contract has an injury clause.

I just don't think it will be much of one... I'll be rooting for the rookie. I agree our offense is dead in the water until the QB position uses the whole field and as of now they no longer have Barkley to eat up a couple of guys and have people working about him in the run or pass game. Dan + Drews jobs just got that much harder.
