Isn't it amazing how everyone person/generation has this same thought. "Back in my day...". I bet people watched the 1980s football teams and thought, what a joke with these plastic helmets and face masks "back in my day we had leather helmets and no face masks and I once bit a mans nose off. That was football".
I'm sure you went through it with the "old Corps" guys. What ever era of the USMC you served in the group before you was tougher and the group after you was weaker. At that rate it's amazing these Marines today can open a bag of chips.

Even though you are right, the game is soft as a baby's ass now, this is some straight grandpa telling us about the walk to school up hill in snow both ways type stuff. Those days are GONE. LT would be a average in today's game due to him being suspended for anything he used to do. I even miss the 2007 Giants defense to be honest. Strahan, Tuck, Osi, Kiwi, Toll coming in hot. I don’t buy that for a second. Lawrence had his demons, no question. However, when he was suspended twice, one more and he would have been banned for life. He stayed clean the rest of his career. Read his books, he couldn’t wait to retire and get back to the drugs. In today’s game, he would have adapted. Legendary players normally do. Now, the quarterbacks he would be facing on a weekly basis. They would all be contemplating retiring early. In part, to the maniac linebacker wrecking their livelihood every game. Actually, I wasn't wasn't talking about his off the field stuff, although if he was on Twitter... I was talking about his on the field pain. He obliterated QBs and offensive players. To a point you can not do in today's game. He would have had to fundamentally changed his style of play.

I listen to the coaches speak and the players respond on all the teams and I begin to feel bad. Because we are ass and nobody looks like they are ready to step up and be an example. It doesn’t look like anyone is interested in football or winning. It looks like they love themselves too much to worry about what others feel. The paying fans. The players are like…just shut up and pay me. I still hold our team to the old standards and that is where I am wrong I guess. I don’t feel the same about players now like I did about the old guys. I don’t even particularly even want to like them. They don’t show me any reason. Maybe I just shouldn’t watch I guess. I've seen no evidence of that. Where have you read from anyone covering the Giants that the team isn't paying hard? The effort was 100% last year, that's the main thing Judge has going right now. Sometimes you're just not good enough. Fans aren't owed a champion contender every year. You take the bad years with the good ones. That's what makes a real fan. Especially for this franchise. I’m not reading anything. I’m talking about how I feel comparing players now to what I’m watching on NFL right now. I like America’s Game and the Missing Rings. Our guys from the 80s were better. Our coaches were better.

If I ran a 4.89 at CB coming out of college in 1980 what is there to brag about?? Let me just blend in. If I ran a 4.2 in 1989 I'm talking all my s***, each and every week,, cause I know nobody can stop me 🤷🏿♂️ .. or I can take the Jerry Rice route. Duality. What’s the use with talking shit? It’s not professional or humble. Unsportsmanlike. Why not be Bavaro and be the silent beast? You are paid the same either way, that’s for sure.

Head up, run through the target. He obliterated players in his day, these workout warriors are lucky he was born in a different decade.

They all try to be tackling with their hands and shit.

The game has evolved. If you don't like today's game, just don't watch it, pop in a VCR tape to reminisce on a TV with knobs to turn it to channel 4, and call your friends using your rotary dial phone to let them know how the referees robbed us with a phantom OPI call in the Flipper Anderson game. Lol

No doubt about it, the fundamentals of tackling were changed about 8-10 years ago. No longer are the arms and hands important. Its all about the shoulder dip and aim for the knees. Coaching has changed quite a bit. I used to LOVE watching players try that technique on Jacobs and him just completely disrespecting them. But then again, he took a lot of knee shots and it more than likely ended his career quicker.

I think that he would be great today. Social media would have a field day with him with all of the drug use and off the field stuff. The Giants honestly would cut bait with him if he were playing in 2021.

Also, one of the best safeties in this league was Ronnie Lott. He would also have to completely change his style in 2021. Who knows how good he would really be without being able to light people up and show his intimidation.

That is a key ingredient in a team winning and future success in years to come. It goes true for any player. Light em up!

Guess what? Everybody you just mentioned pulled their weight and put it all on the line. The old saying is put up or shut up, no? I don’t hang my head because of good football players. Yet, I will agree that personal off field issues are a tragedy in some cases. They still do. As much as I disliked players like Beckham, he completely put it on the line come Sunday. You can't tell me the effort on the field is any less today.
Especially in the playoffs. Legend has it he went outside shirtless before that game and then punched a hole thru gypsum board.
Today's football. That's what I'm talking about.

I never closed my eyes and prayed when Simms was throwing the ball. He had his bad games, but I never got a bad feeling with him. I was fully confident in our offense with him at the wheel.

So you like this pussy shit we see every week? I'm pretty sure ANY current NFL player could kick your ass. So am I, but what does that have to do with it? I’m talking about equal force on force on Sundays. What kind of statement are you trying to make? That a 22 year old 285lb LB can kick my 50 yr old ass? Pretty obvious.

I was just flipping through youtube and listening to music and I noticed that each generation of music is the same. The exact same comments are there for the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s 90s ect. "Wow this music was the best, nothing even comes close, they won't ever make music like this again".

I'm pretty sure ANY current NFL player could kick your ass. I take this challenge. There are a ton of NFL players and I find it hard to believe that every single one of them could kick my ass. Hell I bet USMCVET could probably hold his own against Tom Brady. I'll take on Devonta Smith. I got him by a good 40+ pounds and if I get a hold of his leg it's over lmao.
Call the press and set up the tag team match. Tom Brady and Mike Nugent vs IrishMike and USMCVET. As long as Nugent doesn't land a kick and Brady doesn't land a kiss we should win this match.

I got sent to Haiti in 1994 for Operation Uphold Democracy. We got kicked out by the UN because we basically shot the place to Hell and they had to bring the Army in to calm things down. I was also stationed in Oki twice at Schwab.
