Man I remember the teams back in the late 70s early 80s Charlie Jones and Len Dawson Don Criqui and John Brodie (or Bob Trunpy )..forgot who we was teamed witb at CBS (he called the fumble game ) Vince Scully had a few guys ....he had hank stram and he was teamed with John Madden I think his first year(Gary Bender was teamed with Madden in 80) I'll always remember Don Criqui for coming to our town's high school to talk sports broadcasting in the late 60's, and of course his description of Bavaro's TD in Super Bowl XXI which went something like: "Mark Bavaro genuflects in prayer as his touchdown catch answers the prayers of Giants' fans..." I’ll always remember Mark doing that. My mother used to tear up every time he did that. We were a Catholic household. My favorite TD celebration of all time.

hang my head in shame? Never...
in disgust, anger, rage or disbelief? Yes...
unfortunately way too often over the last several years.

When I was in college in the early - mid 80's, Howard Cossel gave a talking tour and spoke at my school. He ranted against steroids and their impact on sports starting at the high school level. It was very poignant. He was a very good speaker (personally, I never liked him as a broadcaster as a kid, so that speech really impressed me, was expecting it to be a joke).

I could see that because he was a character. He never bothered me, probably because of the understanding that if he was calling it, it was important.

IMO, they should just eliminate challenges throughout the game. I would limit instant replay to after the two minute warning of the game and OT while that decision would have to come from HQ. I would also limit it to PI calls or catch debates. The stoppages are where the NFL makes a lot of their money through commercials, so I seriously doubt that they will decrease them.
That is when the NFL truly crossed the line. They took a controversial moment to break for a commercial. I wonder which suit came up with that idea? That's akin to forcing a TV timeout before a 3rd down snap. Morons.
I disagree with you about the replays though. My preference is to have the teams request them rather the league mandate them. Give each team a limited number of flags each game and let them throw 'em as they see fit.

Only to be watching the 5th airing of a Truvata commercial.
What's nice is the pirated stream I use doesn't have any commercials. You see the live stadium feed with no commentary until the game resumes. I watched a game while on a cruise ship and when it came time for a time out there was no commercial, the screen just froze with a view of the field until the commercial was over and then the game resumed, great idea...

I never knew people tried to associate what Kap was doing with this since they were doing it for thanks while his certainly wasn't..

Well, nowadays everybody wants to jump in our shit when we want to make the sign of the cross. Religion is playing less of a role in some people’s lives and they are trying to make others follow. It didn’t happen with Mark because it really wasn’t as prominent. But oh….it’s ok for them to push their beliefs in your face and down your throat! F that! I am what I was raised to be and I am not ashamed of my beliefs.

I can't remember anyone remotely close to Cossel in style and approach to announcing. A total one of a kind guy.

Something gets lost along the way….when you begin, you are taught “sportsmanship.” For some reason nowadays it goes out the window. Do you think Parcells would have let someone “piss like a dog?” He yelled at Simms for calling someone “fatass” and said don’t be a no class player.

He would trade you for seaweed. imagine the week of a tough loss vs Philly, Harry Carson, Taylor and Jim Burt walk into the locker room only to see the receivers competing in a dance off. “We’ve evolved”. Yeah, think the defense is buying it? Neither are the fans who aren’t buying into this evolution. And where a sub .500 record isn’t grounds for celebrations and “no medals for trying” still holds water for men and young men.

this goes along all sports and not just the NFL.
Things have changed. Just the way it is. Why would the Giants be immune to it?

I'm not sure, but it sounds like the type of advise he would offer his guys.
Along those same lines, picture that sort of behavior in baseball after making a great catch or hitting the long ball. You know a ball's coming for ya next time up.
I don't mind TD celebrations for the most part. As an example I thought Cruz's salsa was absolutely brilliant.

Homage/paying respect to his relatives (his grandma specifically if I remember correctly), and his heritage, absolutely a great celebration.

I enjoy TD celebrations...especially now that the league allows full out team choreography (watching the O lineman out there doing the electric slide or the (I think it's called )Georgia slide (slide to the left.....slide to the tight...criss cross ...criss cross...yes being a former wedding DJ this song is burned into my memory)is hysterical)...if anything it should shut up the relics that used to complain (and still do )that all they do is draw attention to themselves when now the entire TEAM celebrates together Obviously the Victor Cruz one was awesome (also because as was stated it was showing his heritage and for a family member) If they ever have an actual Pro Bowl game instead of an extra point I'd rather the extra point(s) be graded on the end zone celebration from 1-5 ...

Lol.
The issue of course can be celebrating small victories at the expense of the bigger picture. But I do remember Victor having the presence of mind to skip the dance during an important game where we were losing. It's easy to get behind a guy who does that.

I recall Robert Ayers Jr celebrating a sack when we were down by two touchdowns. Besides, looking like a moron. I wanted him traded for a jock strap the following day.

I honestly don't care if we suck for a while after the upset of the 16-0 patriots. The next SB was just frosting.

Living in the past is not productive and really a waste of time. It is like having a Facebook account…..spend a lot of time thinking about it and in the end it produces nothing, and if anything becomes harmful to oneself….move on.
