The indisputable facts is that we will never see that game again with the rule changes and hyper athletes that play today and what is also being produced in college. Those that want to watch 2 team smashing large slow backs into a brick wall all day in a 9-6 type game in this era with 15 total foward passes between both teams go watch highlights of Woody Hayes Buckeyes vs the Michigan Wolverines from the 70s .. I mean I miss mud and dirt... Unfortunately even tbe natural surfaces are "clean " and they are using "clean dirt " it seems when Fields are all ripped up by December It is what it is It's a totally different game .... Evolve or die I'm glad this team finally realized this in March and April Ok…you like the new stuff, and that’s cool. But we can’t say there wasn’t dynamic play making back then. We had Rice, Atwater, Lott, Monk, Largent, Toon, Nattiel…shit load others. They just so happened to be on other teams. They could have easily been on any other team, including ours. So the whole league wasn’t boring as you say. Actually we did Moris was a home run threat every time we touched the ball Manual would have been a perennial 1000 yard recoever if he didn't have basically a career ending injury in 1986 (people forget this was a throwing team in 84 and 85...Simms getting 4K in the air when it was rare ...) I've evolved with the game .....

I don’t feel that it was fair for this poster to take my conversation and reroute it to serve him and his agenda. This guy is out to put words in people’s mouths and hateful feelings in people’s heads. I prefer the old game and players. I also prefer medium rare steaks to well done. I like Coke over Pepsi. And I hate spinach and broccoli. So because of all my preferences should I be persecuted? If anyone else agrees with me and hates broccoli should they also suffer the wrath? F this! I don't see how a preference to 80's football, specifically the great Giants team of the 80's, indicates any ulterior motive. I support your opinion and think you should not even entertain this kind of hypersensitive cancel culture nonsense. The only hypersensitivity going on is with the guy having a mental breakdown at his computer over the mere mention of racism as it pertains to the discussion. Maybe I got too deep into the psychology of it for a football message board, but im not trying to cancel anyone....however, the op did express a desire to physically assault me because of what I had to say. Does that constitute as cancel culture?

That doesn't take anything away from today's version. I just get that they're looking forward and not back. They have a different audience to cater to. They also are more aware of things like CTE and had to make changes to protect themselves from lawsuits.

Score, score, score and gamble to the last min is exciting to this group. It’s more simple to follow and easier that even an idiot can gamble and be correct lol. “Guess who might score the TD out of these three choices? The great defenses and Barry Sanders, Eric Dickerson, etc are considered “boring” now. It’s more a modification tailored to simplicity and quick gratification than evolution of complexity imo.

Does that constitute as cancel culture? The mention of RACISM has no place in the OP or further down the line. It is something YOU interjected. Why steer the conversation that way? Why accuse me of something full well not knowing me at all except that I am a military veteran? You accuse me of having a white conservative upbringing instilled in me not knowing my family race or history. Who the **** do you think you are? Like I said, you are insulting, ignorant, and thank the good Lord above you aren’t standing in front of me right now. I would be in jail and my wife and stepson would be in tears. You got a real problem that someone is most likely going to help you with one day.

I'll remember not to engage with you in the future. I do find it interesting that you think I have a problem, yet you are the one flying off the handle and talking about beating people up. Anyway, I'm not the only one who picked up a negative vibe from your op, so perhaps you should ask yourself why that is rather than attacking me. Furthermore, I wasn't really even reacting to this post in isolation. My interpretation is based on a collection of things you've said and how it comes across. You created this thread a day or two after you were on here complaining about Kadarius Toney making rap videos and 'not speaking English properly', so excuse me for thinking your words were carrying a tinge of racism. I've heard the same sentiments expressed from my stepfather and hundreds of other acquaintances over the years, they've all been racist, and they'd all get equally defensive at the suggestion. That will be my last word on this...flame away, and try to enjoy yourself.

Or it’s just that YOU don’t like it that he has major flaws and he just happens to be African American. I have said it before….stupid knows no color. He is a “college student” with shitty grammar? Most of this shit probably isn’t even your fault then.

And even though they've definitely had the benefit of a better education than Kadarius Toney did growing up in Alabama, I wouldn't judge their character or intelligence based on it.

I'm pretty sure ANY current NFL player could kick your ass. Current? Maybe. But I’d take my chances against Garo Yepremian. He’s got to be pushing 80 now. Never mind, I just googled him to make sure. He died 6 years ago. R.I.P. Big G.
His cousin was my teacher. I remember her telling us that which led to a discussion about "the throw". It was better than doing school work.

The number one issue I have with today's game are the stoppages. I have no problem allowing coaches to challenge a play, but I do have a problem with the automatic reviews and the hacks wearing striped shirts. Whether it's late flags, or flags being surreptitiously picked up and disregarded; I don't enjoy having to wait it out to see how the officials may or may not affect the game. It kills the spontaneity.

Exactly. If you throw a flag, you better damn well have a reason to have thrown it.
No ref should ever say the words "I thought I saw this or I thought I saw that". You either saw it or you didn't.
If you are not sure what you just saw, you couldn't possibly have a reason to throw a flag.

The same fans that blame tbe refs for every call

That's something we've seen increasingly over the years. Part of the problem (IMO) is the league's discretionary calls to emphasize certain penalties while giving leeway to other infractions.
The more subjective the rule, the worse the game is called.

To have the outcome of the NFC Championship game decided by the refs instead of Aaron Rodgers was criminal. Every football fan on the planet wanted to see Rodgers get that chance with 1:35 and a timeout left, it’s why we watch football.

If the league wants to cut down scoring ane help defenses just enforce holding on the O line

I would limit instant replay to after the two minute warning of the game and OT while that decision would have to come from HQ. I would also limit it to PI calls or catch debates. The stoppages are where the NFL makes a lot of their money through commercials, so I seriously doubt that they will decrease them.

I don't even think about celebrating until several seconds after the play, which sucks all the initial joy out of it. They've replaced fun with stress.

So thankful for Evolution - To many stoppages, flags, commerical timeouts, less enjoyment after scoring, questionable calls , etc.
Gee, if the game was only less evolved.

I'm always down to add some more ingredients if it makes the meal taste better.
